  • Great deal but leaving the country soon otherwise would have jumped on it.

Buy it, take it with you and claim TRS :P

      • Are you sure about claiming GST? Aren't to suppose to take the item with you overseas?

    • +37

Ok thanks for letting us know.

        :-)

We all know he wasn't / isn't ever gona buy it.

They are quite fragile - I would certainly advise against jumping on it, whether you're leaving the country or otherwise.

not like this, a person who.
          - Buys a physical ticket (god knows why when we live in a digital age)
          - Comes home and cleans their table for the first time in months.
          - Places one ticket on top of another, making sure the ticket at the back is still exposed (you dont want to give the impression that you are travelling alone!)
          - Gathers items that relate to flights, ie passport, luggage, summer hat, selfie stick (cant forget this one), and places them neatly next to plane ticket (even when the flight is months away)
          - Get your phone and select that stupid picture effect that makes your image look like poo was smeared over the lens.
          - Stand on a chair so that your picture has a parallel birds eye of the image
          - Take a few shots cos that swivel chair your standing on is not helping with the focus.
          - Upload to social media and write something quirky like, Good bye Australia, hello sunshine (what they are really saying is look at me, I'm going on holiday and your not, suckers)
          - Wait for the comments and likes from the people who dont really give a flute but just out of kindness they give you a like to make you happy.

All these TV deals, I need to do some research!

  • +4

Waiting until this kind of TV is available in 60" at around the $1800 price point. Also available on Sony Store for same price shipped, clearing out of stock by the looks of it.

    • +1

Yeah I do have that in post and in title :)

    • -3

Wasn't this model released recently? I'm waiting for Panasonic's OLED - probably be around 15k+ though D:

    • +4

Waiting for this in a 60" or higher under $2K too. I'm hoping something pops up around christmas.

      • +1

Good guy eBay sale had a 65inch uhd Panasonic for around $2100 (including cash rewards).

      • I would love to hold-out for a premium 60" UHD tv sale. Part of me feels I should jump on this deal, though

        • +1

The Samsung UA60JU7000 (Series 7 60") is currently about $2500. Hopefully around christmas it might come down to around the $2K mark. Unfortunately Sony doesn't have a 60" 4K tv (they go from 55" to 65" and higher), so their hovering around the $3100 for the KD65X8500C and $3500 for the KD65X9000C.

The Panasonic 4K's haven't reviewed to well from what l've read. The only other option l'm looking at is the 60" LG 60UF850T for about $2400, but l don't know much about this one.

        • @2SeeKU: can you please post a source link for the poor Panasonic reviews?

        • @2SeeKU: some people hating it. Others liking it.

    • +1

i just picked up an LG 58" for $1600 thanks to the goodguys ebay deal… excellent value if you can forgo those 2 extra inches ;D

  • How does this compare with the Samsung ua55ju6400w?

    • The Samsung is meant to be terrible with games - too slow I think.

      • I've not found this to be the case, I measured 21.2ms lag on gaming mode which isn't bad at all.

        • +4

thats an impressive stop watch you have ;)

        • I just bought this Samsung during Dicksmith deal.
If find if motion plus turned off, it displays much better moving objects.. no blur.

My old tv is a plasma, so that blurring I got from Samsung out of the box really pissed me, but after turn off that feature, motions is acceptable for me.

    • Well I had a little compare in the shop between this and the ju7000w (which I think is basically the same as the ju64000,except with 3D and 200hz) and I honestly couldn't see anything much between them at all. I actually thought the blacks were slightly better on the Samsung, but motion was a little better on the Sony.

I went for the JU7000w in the end, but at the time the Sony was much more expensive. At this price if I could swap over my Samsung for this, I'd do it.

    • +1

Because I was lazy I used http://www.rtings.com/ for comparisons and reviews when i bought my last TV.

    • The Samsung TV you mention is $1619.10 at Bing Lee with an $180 Bing Lee gift card. Actually same price for the Sony. So might work out a little better if you can put the $180 gift card to use.

  • +2

I'm really waiting for 60/120Hz 4K OLEDs to come down to that price. I expect I will need to wait for a while though >_>

  • Noob question - but will my existing blu rays look the same on a 4K TV or worse considering the higher density of pixels? Am I better off upgrading to a 70 inch 1080p TV from a 55 inch 1080p TV than a 70inch 4K TV?

    • +1

Upscale bluray players are available. 4k won't ruin them though.

      • +5

What about my betamax? Can I upscale that to 4k 3d? If not, why is Sony shit?

    • +5

All big brand 4k TVs already have upscalers built in .. Anything plugged in will be upscaled to 4k and look better then on Full HD TVs. 4k makes 1080p Blurays look better then if they were played on Full HD TVs.. :) everything played on my LG 4K looks so much better then my LG Full HD

      • +1

Thanks - now to convince the Mrs……..

      • +3

Anything plugged in will be upscaled to 4k and look better then on Full HD TVs

'technically', if everything else with the screens is IDENTICAL, an image will always look better on a screen with a resolution matching the native resolution of the source material, that hasn't been post-processed/scaled

      • +1

BS. Something must be wrong with the settings on your FHD TV. Try setting 1:1 pixel mapping instead of overscan.
There's no such thing as "upscaled", it's just scaled. There's nothing "up" about it.

      • This explains upscaling quite well:

        http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/upscaling-how-does-it-work-and-…

The TV is essentially faking it, by adding pixels to make 1080 look like 4K (through some clever algorithm that basically averages out the fake pixels to match the original pixels).

Upscaling is really just a gimmick, similar to high resolution audio that seems all the rage these days (thanks to Neil Young and his PonoPlayer)…

        • What did you expect really? To be able to create "real" 4K video from 480p youtube videos?

  • +3

I've recently purchased a couple in this series. Has been buggy as hell however several updates later they seem to be working well.

    • What type of problems did you see.
Have you played games on it, if so was it fine (Samsung uhd is meant to be terrible with games)

      • I have a 40" version of that Samsung in my study actually, tbh I'd go Sony if I had to choose. Found the image to be a bit more natural. Though it's not exactly fair to compare a tv that's 1/4 the price in my case…

As for the problems with the Sony, recording didn't work till an update, random restarts and freezing were an issue, the small extra remote takes some getting familiar with, though once you do it's great. Unsure if that's packaged with all models, but as it's blutooth it gets around the IR receiver being incredibly shit, almost making the standard full function remote useless.

I haven't tried the Samsung with a console yet, just PC, which it can do at 4K/60hz, it definitely doesn't give me alot of confidence with gaming though.

With the Sony being an android TV too is nice, the quality app store, but that's a catch too, it really acts more like a Tablet then a TV. Infact I don't even watch digital tv at all with it, just regularly find myself sitting on Youtube instead. I'd be steering well clear if it was for my parents. The whole freezing and stuff really cemented my view it's just a big screen tablet as opposed to a normal tv.

  • Awsome price, will jump on this ASAP

    • Like mentioned by the bargainhunter, these are fragile and not advised to jump on them :)

  • Hoping for a deal for the X9000C series around Christmas time.

Omg I bought this TV during The Good Guys ebay deal and it was a bargain at $2000. Now it's $1499…

I should have put it on my other card for price protection :( Argh!

    • Yeah I was snooping around this one at $2000, it's a shame it's dropped so fast!

    • +3
      • +2

Yes.. it was! Thanks mate, I almost forgot about this. Putting forward my claim now for 120% of the difference!
        Winning.

        • +1

Which approved national retailer advertised prices I can claim against?
30 Day Price Guarantee claims are only eligible for product prices advertised by the following retailers: Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi, Dick Smith, Appliances Online, Bing Lee, Masters, Officeworks, Retravision, Big W, Kmart, Target, David Jones, Myer, Harris Scarfe, Match Box, House, Wheel & Barrow, Zanui, Kitchenwaredirect.com.au, Peters of Kensington, Victoria's Basement.

If a local competitor has a lower advertised price how do I make a 30 Day Price Guarantee claim?
Claims against local competitors can only be made in store, not online. The competitor must have a physical store within 30km of relevant The Good Guys store where you make your original purchase. Visit The Good Guys in store with a copy of your docket and a copy of the advertisement. A team member will verify whether the price is current and if The Good Guys have the item available for immediate sale and delivery. Eligible claims will receive a 120% of the difference back as either a store credit or PAY LESS eftpos gift card.

        • +1

@isdnman: is that through the credit card?

I found HN barely even sniffed when within 3 days the laptop I just bought last year had dropped in price. Not just a daily or catalogue special…..
Basically the reply was tough luck.

        • no worries hope you get it :)

        • @isdnman: I think you mean GG verify if the competitor has it for immediate pick up or delivery (plus factor in delivery)

        • +4

Just wanted to say I also got this TV from the Good Guys eBay sale. I made a claim with good guys and it was approved. So from my receipt of the good guys it said $2475.

          So therefore

          $2475 - $1499 = $976

          $976 * 1.2 = $1171.20

TV cost me $1980 after the 20% so

          $1980 - $1171.20 = $808.80

Plus $99 cashrewards I'm waiting to cashout.

          $709.80 for this TV.

        • @antonthenet:
          Good score.
I'd be happy with that result….

        • @antonthenet: I actually forgot the price difference would be from the $2475 and not the $1980. An incredible deal to get this TV for only $709!

  • good deal, jump on it

When does Sony usually release their TV and bonus PlayStation bundles?

    • +1

Wouldn't hold my breath on them doing it again given PS4 is selling well as it is. Though you never know….

    • +1

There was one in the states very recently:

      http://www.bestbuy.com/site/500gb-ps4-destiny-bundle-with-55…

Cracking deal (TV is the XBR55X810C), relatively speaking. I would hope that a similar deal rolled around locally at some point.

All that said, this is a tremendous price, damn.

  • +1

Sony have just increased their price.

    • That's weird…I recall it saying the deal was until the 8th of November…

      • It was showing $1499 earlier but showing $2899 for me now

        • +1

Don't feel isolated. It's the same for all of us.

        • Just came here to ask why it's showing $2899 for me and see I am in the same boat as others. What happened ?

  • -1

Video Pro also has it for the same price in case anyone is interested
    https://www.videopro.com.au/p-8670-sony-bravia-55-kd55x8500c…

  • Still $1499 on jb

  • Super deal

  • Is it worth replacing my 24' monitor with this?

  • +9

    So close to doing this

    Edit: did this

    • lol

    • I'm still holding on until christmas.

  • Just read on whirlpool that Sony's specification/claim for this product that it has HDR is incorrect and misleading.
Even x9300C has limited HDR support?

Any inputs from the experts here ??

    • I read that too while looking at reviews, however a software update brought that feature in correctly

  • no netflix built in?

  • So…
Would this worth the extra $700 vs Aldi Bauhn TV?

    • +1

      Aldi Bauhn is pretty good.

The only problem is, it's like playing Russian Roulette though, they have an issue with light bleed.

I had to exchange one twice to get one with normal light bleed. But, if you get a good one (hard these days to get something that's not faulty), it's worth it.

Hook it up to a sound system and it's good value, nice deep colours, but blacks can be somewhat disappointing, not as deep, but not too noticeable.

I had a Sony TV before, it's always reliable (picture quality wasn't as good as Panasonic or Samsung), 4th month in, a dead pixel appeared, warranty fixed it up.

Worth the $700? Depends on specs, if Sony has something you need that Bauhn doesn't, go with Sony.

  • +2

Great deal. Had no intention of buying a new TV today… well you know what i've gone and done.. :)

  • is that the same as this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9JKDzusKBM except the 55inch version?

  • +1

It's $2200 at the good guys, you could buy it from there, and then claim the 30 day price guarantee and get 120% of the difference.. brings the price down even further?

    • +1

I bought this TV from the Good Guys on 14 October for $2,475. How do I claim the 30 day price guarantee?

      • +1

Just ring or visit your local store with the receipt, they'll refund the price difference back to your card. Good luck!
