  • XX? Are these ones for adult toys?

Do they come in D cell?

  • Excuse my ignorance, but how are these Sanyo when they have been Panasonic for a good while?

    • +3

      Just old stock.

How long have these been shelved for? Is there a manufacturing date or year on them?

Looks like July 2011 based on the model number.

Wonder how well the battery chemistry fares after 4 years shelf life.

Note: The Pro's only take 500 recharge cycles vs 1500-1800 for Eneloops (and potentially other brands).

Bonus points: Buy these and don't open them till July next year and you can fill in part of Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eneloop#Comparison "Charge retention after 5 years"
(Assuming you have a charger or device to measure capacity)

        • +6

          Production date is August 2013.

personally, i'll just be buying these for my collection (mint in pack, yo) so manufacturing date isn't a concern ;)

        • +1

I wouldn't be too worried about the dates on these things considering they measure them to a 5 year retention rate to start with. And if you were all that worried, you'd just give them a reset on a decent charger !
Also, the reason they don't have as high a cycle life is that they're designed for high current devices (ie. camera flashes, etc). Don't go buying these for remotes or kids toys, etc.

  • So whats so fascinating about "eneloops" ? The length of use before rechagring?

Reason I ask, is I've seen them advertised so many times here on Oz, but the other days I popped out a single AA battery that was in my Logitech mouse and it is an "eneloop" by the look of it [say eneloop on the battery. Strange thing is, it doesn't hold charge longer than 4 days. Is it possible a dud? How much use out of a single eneloop should I be getting??

    4 days doesn't seem right?

Life cycles is one of the main things, now apparently up to 2100 times with the new gen ones. They're an LSD (low self discharge), meaning they'll keep a % of their charge for years whilst just sitting there. Latest specs have them at %70 over 5 years. And yes, generally they perform much better than your common branded ones!

As for your one… Well it could be a number of reasons: it may be an old 1200 cycle battery and is past it's life cycle; not that I've come across them, but there has been knock-offs made and distributed; or it could've even been over-cooked in the wrong kind of charger.
Depending on the battery's actual state, some chargers can reset/restore the full charge potential (memory) of the battery!

But no, 4 days is crap. I work from home office and mine lasts minimum 3-4 months!

      • Thats what I think, 4 days???

Anyway the one I have in my Logitech mouse, is a few years old, and general recharges from inside the mouse. That's how they recharge in general right? Like charging a phone by plugging the actual device into a u USB power cable?

        • Not sure how the mouse would recharge it… Unless it's plugged into USB… But then it wouldn't require a battery to operate it???

Anyway, even if it did, this could be the cause. I'm not sure about other chargers but mine has an output of 1.2v, (same as what the batteries are). It obviously has different amperage depending on the quantity and size of the batteries charging. It also has a peak power cut to avoid the battery 'over-cooking'! This is why people say to invest in a smart charger. For just a few dollars you'll extract the maximum value and performance from your rechargeables!

        • @Snoop:
Sorry, to be a little more clear, its a Logitech M950 mouse, and came with its own USB charger, and on one end of the mouse there is a universal micro connector [most android phones have these] that I just plug the USB cable that came with the mouse and charge it that way, as per the instruction manual. Inside, although I didn't have a clue at the time, was a rechargeable battery, with the word "eneloop" written on it.

I guess really that was how it was meant to be charged, but it is now over 4 years old,but as I recall even when new I could never get more than 1 week out of it fully charged.

Would charging it a proper "eneloop" charger revitalise the battery [to some extent, or is it cactus.

Also if I got some of these, it would be prudent to get a charger as well, yes???

          Cheers

  • Did anyone buy these? Have they turned up yet? I ordered on Nov 5 and the website still says "awaiting fulfillment."
