  • Is AVAST better than Bitdefender? I am using the free version (6 months) for Bitdefender should I switch to AVAST?

    • +1

Bitdefender IMO is much better. Avast is good though and half a year free is much cheaper than anything with a price tag, perfect for a home pc.

  • Is windows defender enough or we need these sort of anti virus software?

    • My mom liked to download old songs onto our new W8 laptop and Windows Defender was doing it solo.

When I went to use the laptop a few months ago, it was so SLOOOOOOOW (tons of some chinese virus/antivirus that you couldn't get rid of, defaulted your browser homepage to some !@#$%^&* site, malwares, etc.)

As soon as I installed Avast and did a fulldepth scan, BANG BANG BANG, bye bye trash
However I still didnt trust that laptop, so I wiped the HDD and reinstalled W8 and of course AVAST too.
It's almost a year now and still going strong.

If you're just doing normal browsing (facebook, reading the news, checking your web-based email, etc.), Windows Defender should do just fine.
You definitely need an AV if you use Outlook and do any kind of downloading onto your computer (including PDF and all)

Nah just wait until one of those microsoft people ring u up and tell ya u got a virus then just follow their lead for fun and games for 20 minutes until you tell them your running knoppix http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html

  • It is saying expired, a although I can still add it to my cart, it doesn't let you proceed at checkout :(

  • I think the deal has expired, unless I am doing something wrong..
Any other recommendations for free antivirus around?
    Cheers
