Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 $49 @ Woolworths

130

Telstra locked. Use an egift card from cash rewards and its down to $46.55. Go shopping and use a $10 off $100 spend (which are readily available, around me at least), and I'd consider it a $41.90 phone. Bargain I think, for 4g phone with 1gb ram. It is s7275 model.

  • How do you unlock it if its already locked to Telstra?

    • You need to call their prepaid service team.
Probably there is unlock fee apply :/

    • +1

Pay to unlock like all other locked phones. Telstra or other unlock providers can do it.

      • Hi Swimfast, can you please take a photo of your 10$ voucher off from Woolworth and post here. I can't find any voucher in my area.thank for your post

        • Hi, mine is specific to my area, but there is the same type voucher available in the current woolies catalogue.

  • Is the built in memory 8gb?

    • That's my understanding. Plus micro sd slot.

  • +9

This is one of the worst phones I've had. Do yourself a favor and get a huawei or zte at this price.

    • Yes. Yes. Yes.

      I second that.

    • Please expain?

Also does it have NFC, usb otg and can it scan opal cards with the opal app?

      • +1

My one has NFC, but no OTG.

      • NFC yes.

    • Other 4g phone for $42? What problems did you have? Seems as I would expect based on specs.

  • +3

Use the Popcorn deal i posted and get it for even cheaper

    • Ahhh I see what you did there…

      • +1

Not sure why someone negged the comment. Obviously they don't appreciate a helping hand

        • Wasn't me EC… I'll +1 it to bring it back to square one :)

        • +1

I like what you did and gave you +1. :)

        • +2

          @KaptnKaos:

I know it wasn't you . People hide behind -ve votes. If they were man enough, they would comment why !

        • @ddhytz:

          Thanks :)

    • If you like popcorn I guess!

  • is this all stores?

    • -1

yes, if you find stock or if staff dont hide them

      • hope i get lucky tomorrow then my mothers staff discount card is 10% off till the end of the year at woolies.

    • Fair bit of stock around, as far as I could tell.

      • I can't find it Woolworths online. Is this in store only?

        • Don't know about online, 3 out of 5 woolies close to me had it.

        • @swimfast:
Thanks. I will check it out my local woollies

  • Is it better than Telstra 4GX Buzz one? Which is on sale for $79?

    • +2

Telstra 4gx buzz has better 4G band coverage and android 5 lollipop

    • IMO the Telstra Buzz would be better than this. This phone is a little long in the tooth and stuck on a old version of Android. My concern being a Samsung phone and using TW would mean this phones performance is probably abysmal even for a budget phone.

      • Not for me it's great! I think there is roms for it also.

  • +1

Good price if 5 years ago.

    • +1

Good for someone who only has basic needs I think.

  • The battery life of this is really bad in my experience. It probably would be better when rooted with a custom ROM, just haven't done it yet.

    • Battery life is as I would expect so far - no complaints from me here yet.

      • -1

Maybe mine has a bug or something then, when left over night with all connections turned off, it would lose 10-20%.

        • -1

Sounds pretty standard. What were you expecting?

        • @donga100:

My other backup phone, the huawei y201 from the $29 coles sale, which is much less specced than this doesn't have this problem though, only discharges 1-2% overnight.
My main phone, another Samsung, the S5 goes overnight with only 1-2%.

        • @hilariouspowerr: not sure if it applies but some old 4g phones had terrible power management eg. HTC Velocity. In the rush for 4g they used additional chips instead of all in one SoCs and they went through the juice. Not sure if that was the case with these

        • @hilariouspowerr: If you don't mind, check whether something is waking the device up. On battery, you'd see something like screen time and wake time, if your wake time is far far longer than the screen time, it usually means something is stopping the device from hibernating, causing a standby battery drain.

        • @Oversimplified:

Nothing seems out of ordinary. I'm prettty careful with all the settings for all my phones. This one is just the odd one out. I even use a black wallpaper and lock screen to reduce power consumption on the AMOLED screen.

        • @hilariouspowerr: I didn't suggest it because I think you've set something awfully, it's just that there are some apps that can wake the phone too much for no reason whatsoever (i.e. Facebook, Google apps etc etc). It might be because they are asking for the location too much etc etc. Standby battery life I think is more to do with those. They tend to be the reason for the bad standby battery life. If you see a lot of "Awake" when your screen is not on in your battery setting when you go into detail, it usually means something is waking your phone too much.

If it is not that, then check what is draining the battery the most on your phone in the setting.

Also, the phone uses TFT, which is LCD. The wallpaper wouldn't do anything.

I find it hard to believe that this 2+ year old phone even has 1gb RAM while Samsung manage to stuff 512MB into the newer J1

    • My thoughts also, the J1 ran awful, with 700Ram 4G model, as there is 2 models of J1.. I took it back, this is better than the 4G J1.

  • Can we use someone on eBay to unlock this? Anyone tried

  • Only $149 on Woolies eBay.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-Ace-3-Black-Unlock…

Would make an ace phone to mount on the bike!

  • I got on today, 1gig ram 8gb better than Y550 and a sammy crazy price!! was $150 not long ago. No lag for me..happy as larry! Bargain.

  • Couldn't find this in SA Rundle Mall. Anyone around Adelaide had any luck?

    • +1

      Got mine at Marion.

      • thanks mate. Could you tell how many there were left? I can only go next saturday as marion is a tad out of the way for me.

        • There was 2-3 i believe it scanned as $99 but then she said $49. I'm impressed with it for the price, good luck maybe ring about.

        • @Bangersnmash: I see, probably won't have much luck then. I'll give them a call next week before I go. Thanks for the tip.

        • @Cronut: I rang one store had none, but Parents lived near Marion so she got it for me. Just luck, I noticed in coles it was $99 today, not as good as $49.00. Hopefully you get one under the counter somewhere, When does this deal end curious?.
