    • I can't find Nexus 9 on our list anywhere. This is only for postpaid so I assume the above is the prepaid price.

      • So the $240 can't be applied to outright purchased tablets as per this list?

        • +4

It applies to some of those. (All cellular of course)

          EG.
          Ipad Air 16Gb: $480
          Mini 2: $288
          Tab S2: $552
          Z4 Tablet: $648
          Tab A: $216

          Edit:

          Air 2 16Gb: $600
          Tab S 10.5: $480

        • @NejiXSan:
I am having trouble finding an ipad mini 2 for sale outright. I have $480 credit so that would be 2 nice cheap ipads.

So where is link to postpaid prices of Smartphones?

  • +1

Does it work if you just started on the previous $50 a month deal or do you have to start them all at the same time?

    • It's a new special that came up today unfortunately, so only valid if you take up the plan now - but this works for both existing customers and new customers.

  • Argh! Yes, rep, please check if those of us who panicked and signup up last week (after being told incorrectly that the apple music deal would be expiring) can get this too!

    • +1

As far as I'm aware, afraid not sorry.

      • Can you please double check with someone… many of us were told by Telstra reps that unless we signed up on the day we were going to miss out on the Apple Music offer… otherwise I would have waited a few weeks until the end of my previous providers billing period!

        • +2

I've already checked the Terms and Conditions/FAQ and it states clearly that existing customers in-contract won't be able to take up this offer. You could TRY to call up but I really doubt it. Wish it was otherwise! Sorry.

        • @NejiXSan: No sweat, thanks for answering

        • @NejiXSan: Do you have a link to the terms and conditions / FAQ for us mate? Just curious as I couldn't find anywhere…

        • @kudoz83: All internal as far as I can find sorry.

  • +3

Any idea when youll be getting the z5 premium?

    • +2

Would like to know if Telstra is getting the Z5 Premium too!
@NejiXSan Could you help answer this?

  • +2

Any idea when youll be getting the z5 premium?

    • No news yet sorry.

  • Also waiting on nexus 6p news OP?

    • Hah, I have the 6P :)

No news for Telstra 6P unfortunately :( Was very disappointed.

The other $744 deal is probably the best so far.

      • Also want the 6P. If you have any clout at Telstra at all please tell them it was a BAD choice taking on only the 5X and it's stupid I now have to go get the 6P somewhere else.

  • I am on the $70 unlimited GO Business Mobile SIM plan. (24 month contract) with 4 x $40 share sims

Is there any way I can get this deal?

    • You could potentially upgrade the $40 share sims to Go mobile BYO plans then get the credit but it won't give you as good value.

Alternatively, if you have a number on another carrier and can port that in to the BYO $50, that'd give you the best value.

  • Can I add a new Data share sim and take up the tablet offer by itself? For 24 months obviously

    • You can, as long as you have one of the eligible telstra plans already.

  • So to take advantage of both deals ($240 off a device and $200 credit on a 12 month BYO plan), the whole thing would need to be done over chat as the $200 is online only?

    • From what I can see you order the BYO deal online and then you follow the "To redeem your credit Call 1800 676 088" instruction…

      • Ok, makes sense. Thanks :)

        • As said in the post, you are also able to claim this in store.

        • @NejiXSan: The $240 is available in store but not the $200 BYO credit right?

        • +2

          @rekuhs:

It IS an online offer, but both are available instore :) .

  • Can I buy the Galaxy Tab S2 in a Wifi version only, like the Tab S?

    • As far as I'm aware, we only have the cellular devices available.

      • The website shows a Wifi only Galaxy Tab S

        • Hi,

There's a chance that will be a prepaid device - in which case, will not be valid for this offer.

I have a list of the available devices and do not see any wifi only tablets - BUT I could be wrong.

        • @Rockgod70:

Purchasing outright/prepaid can mean similar things.
Most of those tablets are definitely not on the list I have.
I'm not 100% sure but I assume it's any tablet that you can get on a plan (hence postpaid) that you can get the discounted price for - and all devices on the plans would be cellular.

  • how to buy it online? I just have trouble to find a way to buy Huawei P8 Lite - $96 (includes a Huawei Smart Band)

    • You can't do the offer online… you have to Call 1800 676 088 (which means you either order the BYO deal online beforehand or maybe do it at the same time as you're talking to the rep)

    • You can also get it in store if that's convenient.

  • Does this offer include the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge?

    • Yes,
The samsung s6 is $744 and edge is $912

      • Is this the price for the 32GB models after the $240 credit?

If so, what are the prices for the 64GB models?

  • I am a little confused as the webpage says the $240 is available to use to purchase a tablet not a smartphone.

But original post says: "a new deal that discounts $240 off any postpaid smartphone/tablet"

    • +1

I think Telstra deliberately makes all their "deals" so confusing that you never really know just what you will end up with.
The post refers to an outright purchase, which I assume means purchasing a phone without a plan.
However, all of the prices quoted for mobiles on Telstra's site are WITH a plan. There doesn't appear to be any option to purchase without a plan.
I assume (because they are not mentioned anywhere here) that iPhones are not included. Is that right?

      • Sorry, let me try to clarify a little.

The $240 discount is when you buy a phone outright but only when you upgrade a plan or get a new plan.
Example, taking up a new $50 byo 12 month and buying the phone outright will allow you to have $240 off the phone.
Or even if you take up a $95 plan with an iPhone 6s 16Gb, you can still buy another device outright with $240 discount.

        • So where is the list of phones available with the associated postpaid pricing.
ie I want to go on the $50BYO plan AND use the $240 on the cheapest (smart)phone making it essentially free.

        • @StevieRay:

          Hi,

the cheapest phones would be the following
          HTC desire 610: $48
          Desire 626: $72
          Microsoft Lumia 640: $9
          Galaxy A3: $72

          Telstra Easy Discovery 4: $0
          Telstra Tough 3: $0

        • +1

I just chatted to telstra and they said the $240 cannot be used on phones only tablets. And even though the offer says is for "new and recontracting customers" i was ineligible as im an existing customer but not on a go mobile plan. They wont allow me to recontract to the $50 7gb/month go mobile plan. Aren't go mobile plans new, how can anyone be at a point to recontract already, surely this new $240 credit offer means all customers and allow them to switch to go mobile plans to get it. How telstra treats existing customers is pretty bad!

        • +3

Could you list here the phones/tablets available with the associated prices?

        • Also interested in this. in particular S6

        • @HSV:

You can't recontract to the $50 with 7Gb because THAT is a port in online offer with $200 credit.

You can however recontract to the $50 (which wont give you $200) with 5gb. Some customers may be on a casual plan or some customers who are on older plans can then recontract to the new go mobile byo or plans.

You can definitely use them for phones, I just sold two phones with this.

        • @martin matias: S6 32Gb: $744
          64Gb: $816
          128Gb: 1008

          @QueSeraSera:

I'll provide a list of devices and if you're interested in any specific ones, PM me. (Stock varies and the reason why I didnt do this earlier is because most things I have not listed are either not that great of value or out of stock)

          Z4 Tablet

        • @NejiXSan:

how much is the Sony Z3 and the Z3 compact after the $240 discount? Any stock near the hills area?

        • @gadget guy: $576 and $360 respectively. No stock here. We have the z5's at $768/528. Good luck finding stock but they're EOL as far as I'm aware.

        • @NejiXSan: Called again and no such thing as 5gb/month for $50, but yes now iphone 6s is available. Best they could do is $60/month for 7gb (giving me a $10/month discount) and iphone 6s 64gb for $984 on 12 month go mobile plan. Not too bad i guess, but would still rather pay $50/month for 5gb.

        • @NejiXSan: I tried to chat yesterday, I am currently on an uncontracted M $50 casual plan with double the data (5GB). I asked if I could get the same deal but on the 12 month contract so I could get the $240 voucher, however they said they could not offer me double the data and I would then only have 2.5GB…

        • @dhoodle: If you're currently already on Telstra prepaid and change to the contracted $50, you only get $50.
Prepaid>postpaid , new and port ins will have 5Gb, Port ins while using this special will then give 7Gb.

        • @NejiXSan: Cheers NSan, Im currently on a casual sim only plan, not prepaid. Am I able to get 5GB if I go to the 12 month plan?

        • @dhoodle:

That would only give you 2.5gb unfortunately.

  • Can the $240 credit be used towards outright purchase of a iphone6s if recontract on Go Mobile BYO Plan? Where is the outright purchase cost of iphone6s?

    • +1

      Yes you can.

      iPhone 6s 16GB: $840
      iPhone 6s 64GB: $984
      iPhone 6s 128B: $1128

Such a good price! …. Finding stock however, is another story :)

  • Just to clarify-> if I join the M BYO plan (with 7gb and 200 dollars off) ONLINE
and then call up the next day, can I get the 240 dollars off

    • Hi,

I'm not too sure for that. I think you need to get it in conjunction… You probably need to include it in your order?

But best way is to head into the store where they can connect you on the spot and apply the $240 off immediately.

PM if you're in the sydney hills area.

      • Yeah mine is complicated.
        1) I need to port out (have been on Telstra business since 2010 and off contract for the last 3 yrs)
        2) Then port in for the 200 dollars and 4.5 gb
        3) and then claim the 240

I guess I can do steps 2 and 3 in store

Any cheap recommendations for port outs

And I already begged Telstra to just save me from the porting etc. They seem to rather run the risk that I could port out and not come back

        • Yes to 2-3.

Can't advise on the recommendations sorry.

The $240 isn't to be claimed, it's just $240 off any outright device you purchase just to be clear.

        • Thank you

        • portout: amaysim unlimited 1g = $5 for first month
edit: seems like 2g plan is also $5

        • @NejiXSan:
Just to give an update, I put in a port out, the day I posted here. Sadly I get a message, that my port out did not work and Vodafone is looking into it (I registered with the first sim I could find and did not seethe amaysim deal until later)
A local Telstra shop was willing to port me back in and give me the conjunction of deals when I was ready. Sadly I will now be out of tow. Hopefully the rural Telstra shop will play ball

      • Works in conjunction to the previous $50 byo/12 months with 7Gb data and $200 credit (bringing it down to $33.3 if you stay over 12 months) (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217715)

How do I do this AND get the Lumia 640 for $9? since $200 is online only?

        • Go to a store. I'm not sure the process to do it online.

We'll port your number and the lumia will become $0 as its $240 RRP - $240 = $0 :) (I just noticed my error in previous comment).

You'll walk away with your Lumia and your number will be ported in within a few hours.

  • Well that's crap… went instore and they said they would do it for me and fix up my account (as I operated off the previous incorrect Telstra advice about the Apple Music offer expiring 1st Nov when I wasn't planning on joining up until this week when my Jeenee mobile monthly was up)… didn't have Z3 Tablet Compact stock… didn't know when hey would get more in… wouldn't let me have the display model either, so finally settled on the Nexus 9.

THEN turn around and give me 2 "options"… pay $451 in exit fees (which previously they had said they wouldn't charge) and then have a new BYO $50 account created… where I WOULDN'T receive the $200 accnt credits and NO bonus data… ORRRRR… nothing, "we're here to help you sir, what would you like to do? The choice is yours"

    Waste of a lunch time!

    • So they were going to give you the Nexus 9 for $59? This is contrary to what the rep said when I asked the question of the Nexus 9.

      • Maybe @NejiXSan is a uncertain? - based on the details I've seen and those showing instore it's applicable to any tablet (outright price)

        • I've typed above all the tablets that are included in the list. I know it's not valid to any prepaid devices and only postpaid. Besides that, I'm not 100% sure sorry!

  • Not deal related - but do you know if you can add a handset (and repayments) to a $40 data share sim?

Ideally would like 2 x new iphone 6 plus on Large ($70) plan and data share.

    • mind to elaborate ??

      • Essentially I want an iPhone 6s plus version of this expired $140 offer for 2 x Samsung phones:

        https://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/bring-the-whole-fam…

        • but those deals are for Samsung and HTC, how did you managed to get for iPhone ?

        • I didn't. I am trying to get NejiXSan (who appears to work in a Telstra store) to tell me if it is possible???

At the beginning of the link I supplied it had this text:

"SPECIAL HANDSET OFFER ON YOUR $40 DATA SHARE SIM

You can also add a phone on your $40 Share SIM on a Device Payment Contract."

I want to ask NejiXSan if it is possible to be an iphone 6 or 6+?

edit - It can but prob not worth it. just spoke to online chat

  • +3

I'm absolutely amazed this hasnt gone viral!

Walked into the Telstra store today, signed up for a 12 month BYO $50 a month with 7GB data as per https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217715
    PLUS
got the $200 welcome credit, AND
$240 credit to buy a phone outright (in this case got a Huawei P8Lite for $96 which included a Huawei smart band

    So over a 12 month period i'll pay; ($50 x 12) - $200 - $240 (when using the credit to buy a phone)

    Ridiculous!

    • I thought the $200 is for online sign up only ? Can you get both $200 and $240 on Telstra shop ? It contradict what being said by

      kudoz83 49 min ago
Well that's crap… went instore and they said they would do it for me and fix up my account (as I operated off the previous incorrect Telstra advice about the Apple Music offer expiring 1st Nov when I wasn't planning on joining up until this week when my Jeenee mobile monthly was up)… didn't have Z3 Tablet Compact stock… didn't know when hey would get more in… wouldn't let me have the display model either, so finally settled on the Nexus 9.

      Waste of a lunch time!

      • You can only get the $240 discount as you get the $200 sign up.

As I've mentioned previously, you can get the $200 both online or instore, you just need to ask for it.

        • Ok.Thanks. Does this work for all Telstra store ? When is this offer finish ?

        • +1

@hockey: 25/12/2015 if you want both of them I believe.

It should work at all Telstra stores but you do need someone who know's how to put it all through.

        • ok. Which Telstra shop do you work ? Or which Telstra shop knows this so I can go to that shop (I am in Melbourne). I been to Telstra shop before and sometime they do not have a clue on what is happening of this type of offers and take ages to explain to them and at the end can't do anything.

        • You'll have to forgive some ppl for being confused… the online promo for the $50 BYO says "Online exclusive offer" and some have been told it had to be done online or they wouldn't get the bonus data etc as well…

And the $240 discount indicates it can only be done by calling the 1300 number…

Glad your store and team are different!

        • @hockey: I'm in Sydney. Can't advise you on that sorry, maybe the manager of the store could help put it through? I'm sure most staffs should be aware :).

        • @kudoz83: Haha, completely understand. But no, we can definitely process it in the store. :)

        • @NejiXSan: which store? I would like to organize the 7gb/$50/month plan with $200 credit plus this $240 discount buying my missus an iPhone 6 plus.

    • Which smart band does it come with?

  • I think I timed it just right as my wife and I both need to re-contract. Hope we can pool the $240 and get $440.

    • It's one device per contract unfortunately so you'd have to get two devices and $240 credit on each. But this is additional to the device you get on your recontract (unless you recontract on the byo).

  • If I were to re-contract 2 existing Telstra numbers (on the same account), can I apply the 2x $240 discounts against 1 device?

    • No. Won't be able to add the credits unfortunately. 1 Discount per plan and has to be claimed for one device each.

  • I just spoke to the telstra chat - they said $200 offer only available online and $240 offer only available in telstra shop on tablets…

    • +2

They will say that online, but it's definitely do-able instore. And they also would say it's on tablets because they can only see the ad online, but it's definitely for a phones as well as listed in the above prices.
