  • Anyone else having trouble selecting a store for Click&Collect?
The search always times out without finding anything.
Happened on the SuperCheap Auto eBay store as well.

    • The order and selection for C&C went fine. Try another browser maybe :~

Good price for a stinger, op.

I had one of these about 10 years ago. They are mildly effective. I upgraded to the style you see in butcher shops (2ft wide) and they are much more effective because the light emanates a lot more than these stingers. The reason I replaced the stinger was it dropped once (about 6 ft onto bitumen) and broke. My replacement looks a bit like this one,

I'm not convinced mosquitoes are attracted to these style of devices, but they do kill moths (eg. the sort that haunt your laundry/kitchen/etc).
Don't bother using them during the day unless it's fairly dark.
The decent ones use about 36-40 watts of electricity.
Replacement globes (Philips) are about $13ea on eBay.. YMMV of course.

If your intent is to fry mozzies then don't bother with any bug zapper. They will get a small number of mozzies.
I've seen workplaces with interior gardens, counted at least 6x industry size zappers and mozzies laugh at them.

I have a Stringer and it's the CFL globe type, against the white walls it is bright and reflects bringing in plenty of moths, other insects. Spiders and frogs do start to move in to eat the dead insects.

Still good for entertaining at night, guests don't have to put up with the usual night inspects and some mozzies, I use a citronella candle or two to keep the mozzies away or the good ol mozzie coils.

    • A bug zapper for entertainment?

      I thought I was tight!

Don't know much about these. Would they repel flies? We have an undercover area outside our front door and flies seem to congregate there for some reason.

  • Cheers OP. Got a couple.

The older folks among us will remember that, when we were kids, these bug zapper type things were pretty much ubiquitous in butcher shops, fishmongers, fish and chip shops and such.

Did you notice how they suddenly disappeared from ALL shops, and they're not used any more?

Someone did a little research project and found that when bugs are zapped, they explode, and bug guts get sprayed all over the fresh food the zappers are supposed to protect!

Funniest damn thing ever, I reckon! :-)

They are so bloody dangerous. I'm not one for words, but this exert sums it up nicely. "its body explodes, spreading a mist of intestinal fluid and body parts around the area. The intestines of most insects are home to millions of disease-carrying bacteria and viruses. When the insect’s body bursts open, the intestinal fluid and other body parts fly around the air. Most of this mist is targeted within a couple of meters away from the insect buster."

      • Yeah, uh, thanks for that. I was eating lunch when I read this… I'm not hungry now!

  • Hows everyone finding their bug zappers? Looking to purchase one.
