I think I will stick with my Nexus 5 at any rate until this drops to $450

    • why not LG G4?

      • I'm itching to replace my Galaxy S4 with LG G4. My wife also killed hers and is using a Core Prime. We both just came out of contract. (Actually mine expires tonight at midnight).

What's putting me off is the laundry list of issues people have reported. Touch screen problems (not registering touches), overheating, charging problems, spontaneous reboots. It's not clear how much of that is tied to early firmware relased for US carriers, how much is due to bad batches of phones and how much is just inherent weaknesses in the model. I REALLY want that camera as photos are important to me but I also REALLY don't want major headaches.

Two out of the 3 I've played with in stores have had flat batteries despite being hooked up to a charger and turned off. I don't understand that. The one I played with at JBHiFi seemed fine and was responsive. The one I played with at Harvey Norman a couple of weeks ago was below 5% and I had to wait for it to get above that before the camera would turn on. (I got an error message stating the battery is too low to run the camera despite it being plugged in).

Part of me wants to take the plunge. Part of me doesn't want to reward a company for making a faulty top end model with my custom and is worried about the headaches. All of me wishes Samsung hadn't decided to take the SD card and removable battery out of the S6.

        • A majority of the G4's being sold now (the ones that aren't from dodgy sellers) are the newer models that were made after the common manufacturing defects were discovered and fixed. Those screen issues were back in June/July.

You really can't base your experience off of the in-store phones they have on display. They never fix the cabling/connections and i'm baffled as to why (It really wouldn't be hard).

The issues you have heard are of a minority. Not many people who actually like the devices take to the internet to start discussions and write reviews because they don't need their phones to be fixed or want their experience to be improved immediately.

Not saying the G4 is going to be no doubt a viable replacement for you, but you need to reconsider some of your reasoning further. Personally I'd love one but JUST missed out on the wedding ebay deal. Moto G 2014 is getting really slow now :P at least for me.

        • @bananabendera:

It's true that people who like their devices don't often post. I am completely aware of that. However the number and variety of complaints does in my experience make a good indicator - it's the best indicator you're going to get anyway. I don't believe the hardware magically gets fixed a couple of months after release. Hardware defect rates tend to remain for the most part because no one is able to retool quickly. UNLESS a bad batch somehow makes it out. In that case you're fixing Quality Control not design. Sometimes that's worth it to stop bad phones coming back and having to be replaced at the manufacturer's cost under warranty (IF they admit the issue). Appart from bad QC what does get fixed for a popular phone is the firmware. There's a lot less complaints about Telstra branded phones on whirlpool's many page discussion but there are still more than I'd like to see and they mention the same problems.

I smashed my Nexus 5 2 weeks ago, replaced it with a LG G4 about 5 days ago and…….im not liking it.

Im really missing my nexus 5 and even contemplating selling the G4 and getting a nexus again (for the 3rd time). I think I just really like the 'nexus experience'. I have had to load 'Nova launcher' on the G4 as the LG skin is terrible, (Google Now launcher had too much lag)

Would love a Nexus 5x but too expensive at the moment

G3 and now G4 here. My G4 has contact and SMS apks crashing from time to time. Love the knock code, circle case and buttons on the back. Apex launcher suits me best, especially the verticle scroll for the apk draw.

          I came from Samsung (SGS2, 3, 4 & 5) but never tried Nexus.

      • Where can you get a cheap LG G4 atm? Or do you mean wait for the inevitable Christmas ebay 20% off sales?

        • Selling mine on gumtree (brisbane) cheap cheap

        • @Archaleas: how much?

@msmhw: Listed for $600 neg. Fellow Ozbargainer discount available of course

nexus 6p is a lot better for 114 more.

    • It is indeed.

That said, if price is important, I would go for Nexus 6 (Motorola) over a 5X as well.

The 6P seems to be having intermittent issues with Telstra as well.
