It would seem you know nothing about Android, either.

      • +1

        Probably confusing Android and Touchwiz

        • -1

          lol. Probably.

        • +4

That's not his fault, touch wiz is unfortunately the face of Android. Will never touch anything with touchWiz. Even the name is horrible.

      • -2

I'm not confusing anything, I'm talking about low end hardware. I am fully aware at how badly Android can run on low end hardware like this tablet. And yes Touchwiz is laggy even on the best hardware.

        • +1

But clearly you are confusing a tablet and a notebook running Chrome OS.

        • +1

          @websterp:

Well answer my question please about the os since you are so informed.

        • +2

tbh what runs good on low end hardware?

        • +5

          @chipstss:

          DOS

        • @chipstss: Quake

        • +1

          @Carnal: Quake OS?

        • I was about to jump in for you mate, TBH Android is no Windows Phone 8, which can basically run perfectly on low to mid range 2013 hardware without breaking a sweat. On decent hardware with a decent implementation (mainly vanilla android or asop/cyanogen etc and manufactures who haven't butchered the OS eg Samsung) it will run perfectly.

This is a completely different kettle of fish though, which I think is the main reason people are being 'unhelpful'.

        • @spillmill: bash

        • @chipstss:

          LOLOLOL

          I'd buy that OS.

        • My Nexus 4 is old and cheap. And it runs Android Lollipop without any lag.

      • +2

Are you really gonna sit there and say with a straight face that Android isn't laggy? The Z5 Compact is the slowest phone I've ever used, including the iPhone 3G.

        • You are still confusing Android with any single implementation, Android is not iOS or WP

        • +1

@Jackson:What does it matter if in practice every implementation is laggy? Yes they add drivers and compile four different hardware. No, that doesn't make a difference to anyone's experience.

        • @MrMcHairyHead: trollus ignoramus. Hundreds of phones run perfectly

    • Have a chromebook from a few years ago. Used it for a couple of months before I got sick of it. Android devices run faster than my chromebook!

  • Nooooooooooooo. Can't cancel as my order shipped today.

    • Contact Amazon chat. They will refund the difference

      • Yeah I'm aware. I did that for the pny 128gb usb I bought as well which went down $3 usd from 28 to 25. Would have preferred to pay less upfront though but not that big a deal either way.

    • Just contact support for a refund of the price difference.

  • For some reason it's not giving free shipping and at the time of payment adding shipping

    • Free shipping is usually only for US residents.

      • Not really you get on some products shipped to Australia. Interestingly i locked that in bucket and then contacted support and showed them the offer on website as free shipping. He is waiving off shipping fee now.

        • Can you send us the link here please?

        • @lordra: it is same link as per this ad. When you open the product page, at bottom right under "Compare to Similar Items" the 1st item as best seller is same book showing free shipping.

          screenshot

        • @b4rgainhunter: thank you. Is that it? Is that the weak link? I see it there. But what if he Turns around and says that it's for usa only?

        • @lordra: Well myself and many others has already got waiver so should not be any issue. the advertisement does not states that it's for US only.

        • @b4rgainhunter:

It does in the t's and c's of the free shipping - US addys only.

  • does this one have an IPS panel?

  • Thank for this!!! Was quite disappointed when I missed out on this yesterday.

  • Damn they must have a lot of stock. Good on amazon!

Edit: refund with amazon chat is in a form of a gift card. EDIT again: request for them to pay back to your card and they will make that 'exception'.

  • How does chrome OS handle with 2gb?

    • +2

I got negged to oblivion when this is what I want to know too. It would hopefully be fine with such a low resolution display. But I don't know how well chrome os runs on low specs.

    • +2

I have no issue with speed with 2gb. I think 4gb is mainly better for having more tabs open without reloading as often.

If you can afford more, the Toshiba Chromebook 2 2015 celeron 4gb edition is a very good price at B&H at the moment. Full HD, IPS, backlit keyboard.. Aces every review

  • +10

Was going to complete checkout… then I realize I would have no use for it.

    • +13

      That's not the ozbargain way…

    • don't think. just do

  • Man, this is a good price. But I already have a low-end ultra light laptop (Asus x205TA)…

    • buy one and mount it next to a toilet. theres always a reason to buy another one.

    • Yeah me to, have tf810c convertible, even thought I like the idea of chrome OS, I might prefer running Ubuntu on it. Even then it's a bit of a stretch to get away from windows

      • Haha :) I used to have that machine actually. Served me well for an year before I sold it off since I didn't need the pen input any more.

        • I have never found the need for pen input either, but the machine is otherwise solid, more so than the Acer w510 which had to be returned at some point. I am debating moving to Windows 10, looks decent but not sure about it being as touch friendly

  • +1

My cart says $160.06AUS all up, is that right? $136.55 + 23.51 shipping

    • Yes, it's right. I paid $165 yesterday with amazon exchange rate, got refunded $5 today.

      • cheers mate. Title threw me off a little with the $153 shipped. Just trying to figure out if i should bite the bullet.

        • +1

No worries. Not everyday you get a $160 computer to play with. I missed out on the shopping square $199 laptops, not as if I would have much chance anyway, only 20 units for sale.

Only issue is the accessories like a keyboard cover is so expensive on eBay, like $9. Like 6% of the cost. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281736480709?_trksid=p2055119.m14…

    • +2

talk to their support, and tell them it's marked as free on website and they ll waive the shipping off. Just had mine done

      • Huh, so what was your total price? You didn't pay the $23.51 aud in shipping?

        • +1

nope, i referred them to their website show free shipping. and he let me order with shipping and then waived shipping off.

When you open the product page, at bottom right under "Compare to Similar Items" the 1st item as best seller is same book showing free shipping.

        • @b4rgainhunter: Thanks mate, gonna see if they would let me.

        • +3

@b4rgainhunter: Nice, thanks for the tip. Didn't think that would work but they said they'd "do it for me this time" as the free shipping is US only. Made the order, then they edited the order and now shows as $136.55AUS!

        • @Chickenleg: their bad luck, they are not showing any note that its US only ;)

        • @b4rgainhunter: on chat with them now, but they aren't budging.

        • @lordra: ok, so a bit of persistentence paid off..!

        • +1

          @lordra: got it?

        • @Chickenleg: I paid in US dollars so it deducted $ 131.46 AUD.

        • +1

          @b4rgainhunter:
Thanks mate, they are letting me do it as a one off. I had already paid but they'll refund lol

        • @b4rgainhunter: got it! Placed the order with the shipping and then he took it off. Got someone called Abhiram. Initially offered me $10 credit that I politely declined.

        • +1

          @lordra: nice. Good on you.

  • +1

Thanks op, don't tell husband or he'll kill me (lol) could not resist

    • Will he see you using it?

      • +4

Yes but then will be too late

  • Anyone knows what to do for extra storage? I bought this short/mini card reader to stick in a 64GB micro SD card, this way it doesn't stick out from the laptop that much.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221878843584

  • Oh, I so don't need another almost-notebook :)

  • why buy a Chromebook when you can use a spare laptop (if you have one) for free? Works like a champ!

    http://lifehacker.com/turn-your-old-laptop-into-a-chromebook…

    • +1

because it's a new laptop that had a proper battery life and warranty.

      • and it is very light weight as well.

  • Is this chromebook a good secondary device for Uni note taking? My main laptop is heavy (4kg) and it isn't that fun to carry to uni….

    • +3

If you can get away with only using chrome, it's great.

I had mine at uni, was very dependent on internet.

    • On paper, yes, but you may run into problems on it like I did: the onboard wifi was terrible, disallowing me from logging in at times! Also you're stuck with doing EVERYTHING through chrome browser. Google docs formats differently to microsoft word. IMO you're better off grabbing a cheap chinese windows tablet and a bluetooth keyboard. Or, do what I did, and splurge $1500 on a sweet laptop

  • Can confirm you will get a free shipping if you insist on the chat.

  • I was about to put in an order and price went up to 160 USD. Damnnnnnn

    • same. I was with the CSR, she was about to apply free shipping and it sold out.

I winged for 15 min, i think she just wanted to get rid of me so i was offered a $25 amazon credit and put a note on my account for free shipping on next order lolz

pays to be annoying sometimes haha

  • yep, gone up. But it says item does not ship to aus anyway?

  • greeat find EC :)

  • Damn missed out again!

  • Does the power adapter need converter to be used in Australia? Is it 110V? Thanks

    • This was discussed in the previous deal, the short answer is no - all you'll need is a US to AU plug adaptor

    • earlier post

The power supply is 100-240v. Scroll down the page and look at the questions section. Just type in voltage or 240 in the search box and see that the question has been asked. So Like easternculture said, you just need the plug adapter.

Will share once my order arrives.

    • Thanks, everyone.

  • +1

It's still available for backorder if you're quick. ( just go to the list of suppliers and you should see it at Amazon for $99 still. )

    • yep, just got one, back in stock December 3

  • How will warranty work here?

    • Who cares, your paying at least 50% cheaper than the price it's sold in Australia.

On the other hand, I think acer offer global warranty but will have to double check

      • Nah, i'm just afraid it'll stop working after 1 month. Saw them of the reviews, there were damaged screens after a few months. Not much a bargain if it spoils quickly.

  • Can you install linux on this?

  • Mine shipped today :)

  • Back in stock.

  • $177, how did you guys get it so cheap?

    • +1

      you're a day late
