I don't spend $500 per month. Any suggestions as to something liquid I could buy to get the funds efficiently back into my transaction account?

Lol. Or some kind of drink you like?

        • Water? I wouldn't even spend $10 per month on that…

Fully refundable hotel booking on Expedia.
      Woolworths eGift cards.

      • +1

Wow, $3000 ($500/month for six months) worth of Woolworths eGift cards. If they expire after 24 months, you'd have to spend $100-125/month on average…not outrageous, but you'd save more if you shopped at independent stores (or ALDI)

        • +3

Not hard if you're a family of 4. Nappies, baby formula, etc.

        • Egift card can be used for fuel too right

        • +2

          They expire after 12 months.

        • Petrol counts too.. not hard to spend this if your filling up fortnightly or less . Groceries on top

    • Wish Giftcard using Entertainment or RACV…

    • Liquid gold. Or if you prefer, solid gold. Then sell it back to the bank.

Hey Scrooge, do you pay regular monthly bills, etc? Basically, I just put everything on my credit card, then pay it off at the end of the month. Is this possible for you to do?

      • +3

I reckon Scrooge McDuck doesn't pay for anything

      • +19

Hey Scrooge, do you pay regular monthly bills, etc?

The only bill I have is on my face.

buy things for family or friends who can pay you back in cash.

    • Pay bills (and maybe even pay in advance), petrol, groceries (if you don't already use the 5% off gift cards)…

    • +3

Send me an additional card I can help you reach the monthly quota ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • Woolworths egift vouchers through cashrewards to top up your monthly spend to the $500. Purchase say 5 days before the end of your month.

  • +1

I won't bother applying after getting shot down by CBA only 3 weeks ago for the $191 one. So annoying tho :(

  • Is there an interest free period? Otherwise not a bargain as you would have to pay over 65 bucks of interest each month.

  • +3

    You have much to learn

Thanks OP. Applied and got approved with a $10K limit.

Will first statement cycle always be around 30 days regardless when you apply for card?

    • That's a good point… I used to have another Westpac card (note: not this one). The closing balance payment was due on the 22nd/23rd from memory and statements went from the 8th to the 8th. I have no idea whether it's the same with this card though? would be great if someone could confirm because I might choose to open this card after the 8th then!

Bear in mind that Westpac offer 45 day interest-free periods or 55-day
      http://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/credit-cards/mana…

it sounds like my card above was a 45-day interest free period, so i'd be really keen to know what the statement cycle is for a 55-day interest free period.

Anyone else get a fail screen when it tried to send the SMS?

    • +1

I'm getting the same thing in both Chrome and IE: It won't let you enter the SMS verification code, and goes to an error page instead. Looks like this application form is broken for now; I've called up and told them, so best to wait a week or so until it's fixed.

  • Possible first year fee free as long as you are an existing customer ?

    • how?

      • You can go to Westpac.com.au and then choose the Low interest rate credit card :
$0 annual fee in the first year for existing Westpac customers who apply via westpac.com.au and click on the Westpac customers 'Apply now’ button. See 'Things you should know' section below for this promotion's terms and conditions.

  • Just curiosity if we open a new saving account now and apply the credit card one or two day later, are we considered as existing customers?

  • thanks, i've applied

  • Does anyone know if additional cardholder(s) would be eligible to receive the statement credit as well?

    • +1

I doubt it, as the additional card hangs off the primary account.

      • +1

Thanks. Was gonna get an additional for sis.

  • I called the credit card head office and make sure the above promotion is available in my card, but they said they are not aware of any promotion as such and ask me to bring promotion hard copy to the branch and show them, so they can manual put that in my credit card profile.
Anyone received their 1st statement with $50 credit yet? any issue with the credit?

    • me too.
Went to a branch and they don't know this offer, even showing them the website.
They called hotline and the specialist doesn't recognize this offer.

  • My statement is still far away. Anyone has given the bank the copy of the promotion and successful ?

  • website keeps crashing at the end of the application when I'm submitting and I click to receive sms code :(

  • got my first statement, got charged the annual card fee + other charges. without the $50 credit.

Gave them a call and let them know the promotion. was told that the $50 credit will appear on the next statement.

  • I fortuitously took a PDF of the Westpac web pages with the promo on it. The file is about 1MB. (6 pages) Does anywhere know where i can host a copy if other ozBargainers need it?

  • got my first statement today, $59 fee, no credit.

  • me too, when to the branch and show them the hard copy of promotion page. they are not aware of this promotion and called head office and I was advised this will appear in the 2nd statement. Hope they do what they say. Never again for me with Westpac!

  • That really sucks guys and girls, sorry about this. I originally saw this advertisement on my Facebook wall (sponsored post by Westpac), so it was definitely legitimate, however, sounds like Westpac haven't trained their teams about the deal properly. There's probably some sort of Internet team that would know everything about it, but getting in touch with them will be a challenge no doubt.

  • On the page I linked, there's a 1300 number that you can call for applications for the deal… I wonder if it would be worth calling that number and saying that the deal isn't working, and can they apply it to your account, etc?

    The number is 1300 104 930

  • I got the card eventually but ended up to utilize 18 months 0% BT instead of this cashback. Gained better as the credit limit is good enough.

First statement today.. no "Rewards Credit $50"..

Just got off from the Westpac call centre now (25min).. they had no idea of the offer and said all they could find was $0 fee for the first year if I was willing to accept that?! haha yeah right.

Managed to escalate to a supervisor, who assured me the $50 rewards credit will appear on my second statement.. will wait & see, but still definitely worth it for a total $300 credit over 6 months! Now I'm off to put petrol & groceries on the card to ensure $500 for this month's statement.

    Thanks OP!

    Wishing all a great weekend.

    • Good to hear you got some traction… shouldn't be this difficult though!

  • First statement a few days ago, no rewards credit ($50), got charged $59 fee too though was existing westpac customer

Anyone had success in getting the rewards credit AND the $59 fee rebated?

    • +1

      There are 2 different promotions.

Can I suggest, that what ever people find out from the supervisor they ask for some kind of reference or code that a normal operator can look up. It would save a lot of time to say I'm ringing about the $50 a month deal, which on your system is policy/proceedure XYZ123.

  • +1

Currently on the phone to Westpac as no $50 statement credit… let's see how this goes…

EDIT: OK, so the supervisors don't even know about the deal and are looking into it, had to give them the URL http://info.westpac.com.au/creditcards/lowrate/cashback/

EDIT2: I'm assured that I will see it on my next statement, I imagine I'll have to call them again in a month's time.

  • I never received $50 credit as well -_-

  • No credit, but I spent $539 this month including the annual fee. Does anyone see why the fee isn't included in the spend? Just point me to some T&Cs..

  • I didnt get the $50 cash back.
Staff were asking me to point them to the deal.

http://info.westpac.com.au/creditcards/lowrate/cashback/ this website doesn't show $50 cash back.
in fact it goes to http://info.westpac.com.au/creditcards/lowrate (the cashback from the URL is removed)

Staff were asking me to point them to the deal on their website.

the above pdf works but it doesnt seem like its coming from the westpac website.
does anyone have a working westpac URL that says $50 cash back for $500 spend please?

    • So did you show them the PDF and did they reject it because it wasn't from the website (ie. a live link)?

  • Got my second statement and still no $50 credit.

    • let us know how you go trying to get the first credit, doesn't sound good.

      • +1

I have lodged a complain. not gonna make the call to them. let them worry about this first.

Encouraging everyone to do the same.

        • @PissLUR:

Thanks, I'll hold off on calling them again to see if the credit comes in by itself by the end of the week.

Got 2x $50 credits this morning.

    • Lodged complaint since 25th, no reply but got 2x credit this morning

  • Got 1 x $50 credit this morning too.

  • got 1x$50 as well, only had one statement so far.

  • Received my 1st $50 credit today as well.

  • Finally got my 2 x $50 credit today ^^
Lucky I kept up with the $500 spending during my 2nd cycle

    • Good to hear! My cycle is up on the 12th so will check again. I too have persisted with the $500pm spend just in case.

  • has anyone received the second separate $50?

    • No, looking like I will have to chase that up as well.

  • Second statement. I didn't get it on the first one (forgot to ring them) and it's missing on the second one too.

    • A small bit of light on the subject. The person on the end of the phone in applications read the add almost verbatim back to me. But the key difference was the start and end dates. She said June to September. So I'm guessing the team updated the website but not the back end.

  • got my second statement $50 credit, 1st march.

  • Got my $50 cashback for my feb statement cycle yesterday

  • Have to lodge 2 online complaints plus 2 phone calls to get the third credit.

  • didn't get the $50 on this statement cycle

claiming that paypal and foreign payments are not eligible transactions.

    still on the phone

    dodgy

edit: couldn't send me the documents that showed these terms. claimed that as the offer is expired she doesn't have them.
asked her then how can she prove it was in the terms. transferred me to customer service.

    • That is awful customer service. Especially gathering the purpose of the promotion woud be to lure customers to their credit cards. I didn't receive my $50 credit either for this month. Keep us updated.

      • +1

Westpac said they would call me on Thursday to update me, never did.

Check my account and saw that they credited me my $50 cashback.

so far I have 3 out of my 6.

  • I have to lodge a complaint and phone them every month to get $50 credit even though they have assured me it will be automatically credited (from last month). But still, no credit for the last statement.

  • Westpac has dropped the ball in recent months. Not answering online feedback within 1 business day as they would normally do.

  • received my next statement, no credit.

    shall follow it up tomorrow.

  • 51min call later, manually put through the $50 credit.

to make it easier for others, you will want to be put through Customer Relations.

I have also asked them to put a note on my account to make it easier next time I call up, shall see if it works next month.
