I bought this a year ago brand new for $1 extra than advertised, as a grey import from a trusted and reputable business (onl did this as I was able to avoid import tax). Must say, I'm surprised it hasn't dropped further in price, given the amount of discounts currently available / mentioned above. For those who might be considering the camera; it's a great option for those taking more video than photo, but still produces great quality pictures for a cropped frame. You can also get really cheap 3rd party accessories for it, including the 2nd battery grip. Enjoying this in my collection along with 7DII.

    • Hi, I am thinking to buy one of those along with 24-105 F4L IS(should I get 24-70?) I mostly photograph fast moving subjects and wildlifes. Should I get this 70D or 7DII? Is worth spending $700 extra on 7DII? Your reply is highly appreciated.

I had the 24-105L previously with a 6D and the picture quality with this lense is average. However I quite like the IS on it and build quality.

Any of the newer Canon lenses is better in picture quality, eg 24-70f4Is. The 24-70f2.8 is good but weights a tonne and no IS.

For wildlife I recommend the 70-200f4 or f2.8. 7Dii has better weather sealing, AF and higher clicks per sec. It is also heavier. I recommend trying both in store. You'll be surprise how much form factor and handling impact of the cameras will your purchase and price becomes a secondary factor. Cheers.

        • Thanks mate,it's really good information and advice.

      • I'm certainly not going to be your expert answer on here, but i'll add my two cents.

It really comes down to a preference thing - are you happy with images you've been getting with the F4 lens? What camera are you using now? If happy with the lens itself - keep it. If you think it could be better…then the 24-70mm lens may not be the answer unless its offering greater AF capabilities and a better aperture (2.8 etc)

I'd use 24-70mm more for wide angle shots (groups), landscapes and architecture, with the option to zoom in a bit to capture more detail or emotion. I'm very picky with lenses and the quality they offer; which is why all my Canon lenses are L series: typically well built, durable, USM for low noise operation and hopefully has IS too. Only my 100-400 lens is ranged from f2.8-5.6, all other zoom and prime lenses are f1.2 to 2.8, offering brighter images reducing the need to brighten in photoshop, usually giving crisper results on the areas in focus. The fix/answer might be to bump up the ISO. Meh. I prefer to keep it at 100, or as low as possible in daytime photography. Depending on the subject; blown up images with high ISO will result in grainy shots. Again, I'm picky.

There's a big difference in sensor capabilities, features and even megapixels between the cameras, so take your time reading through their specs and don't rush into the purchase. I loved my 7D and upgraded to the mark II as it came out. I'm really happy with USB 3 as I prefer that option for data transfer than removing the CF/SD cards. The 7DII was designed for the adventurous photographer and is still doing very well in professional reviews. Check out youtube videos too.

        • Thanks roosta, valuable information. Currently I am using 550D with kit lens and I have f1.8. I decided to go with 7D II with 24-70mm L IS.

I hope this will give me both good videos and stills.

        • @TechVisar: I'm surprised how many pros and semi pros shoot with DSLRs from some of the small amounts of research I've done. I'm sure the 7DII will be in the bag of many up and coming photographers and videographers. Good choice on camera and lens I'm sure you'll get soem great stills and good video.
