Repco - Valvoline Engine Armour 10W-40 5L + Oil Filter $22.99

100

Pretty good price for a decent brand of semi-synthetic 10W-40 plus oil filter.

This 10W-40 is suitable for most mainstream cars, but check the manual first.

For comparison this oil is currently at Supercheap Auto for $41.88

  • Sweet price! exactly what I was waiting for, thanks placard

  • Anyone know a good engine cleaner. My diesel 4x4 hadn't had regular service when I bought it and had gluggy old oil. Any one recommend away to clean it?

    • I'd probably just do an immediate oil and filter change, and then do a few more every 2,000km?

It might not be a good idea to forcibly remove sludge it might induce oil leaks?

      • Even worse, forcibly removing sludge can block passages, etc if its really super bad.. Only real way of cleaning is to drop oil pan and rocket cover, then manually get in there to clean.

Best to do more regular oil changes, diesel oil's have high level of detergents in them. +1 do a few 2,000km oil changes.

www.bobistheoilguy.com is a good oil related forum if you want to research more.

        • good tips. Oil has detergent in it.

        • Cheers will do

      • Thanks

  • You'll pay for the filter: this oil has been as low as $15 in the recent past, $16.99 in this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/210031

    • Correct, the overall price might not be the cheapest ever, but it's a great price if you need an oil change!

Why put off the oil change when for $23 you can have fresh oil and filter! Could save you hundreds of dollars in repairs down the track - so many people put off servicing their cars and it's a false economy…

      • Yea, oil changes are a sm all % of running costs. I pump out of the dipstick and pump clean stuff back in. No mess and little time. I do it every thrree months. Usually stock up on these sales.

        • +1

how do you pump out of the dipstick? How does this get it all out, ie instead of gravity through the sump plug?

Do you change your oil filter as well?

        • @placard:

I use a chemical transfer gear pump . My friend purchased this after seeing my setup, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-Oil-Diesel-Extractor-Suction-…

Probably leave behind a cap full, but I can live with that.

Change filter every time. I have a prado and access from wheel well.Prado has an inverted filter with anti drain plug. I made a pipe drain out of an old pushrod. I use it to puncture the filter and drain immediately.

        • @BamBam cheapsk8:

I thought you were a crazy SOB, but after having just done an oil change and it taking 30 minutes, plus all the mess afterwards, you might be onto something.

How long does it take to pump it out? The tube has to be pretty thin to fit through the dipstick

        • +1

          @outlander:

less than 5 minutes either way. Use 3mm id tube. Even if you can fit bigger, dont. smaller tube = less volume = better at priming.

The mess of transferring after was what convinced me to try it. Now it goes straight into an old oil bottle and that into the oil bin at supercheap. Dont even need to put gloves on anymore..
