IF you buy electronics from alibaba, you're going to have a bad time.

1amp…These are substandard and expect a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG charge time…

A cheap Car Charger Adapter to get my credit card number, no thanks.

Alibaba is a HUGE company!!! http://www.forbes.com/sites/walterloeb/2014/04/11/10-reasons…

      BTW, I didn't neg you.

      • Yet it sells a lot of fakes.

Just need to be smart about it. You wouldn't buy a Galaxy S5 for $100 USD brand new….

But you can get a genuine Cube i6 Air tablet on the website. Just need to be more sensible about what you purchase there.

They are like eBay, a lot of individual stores. Yes there are a lot of fakes and dodgy stores, but there are a lot of legitimate bargains there as well.

        • @Oversimplified: there is also buyer protection. I've bought a dozen things without issue. I'm less impressed with the search engine :) you can't sort by price and postage, hard to find unit prices vs bulk prices to compare, etc :)

1/2 owned by Yahoo, in case you were wondering.

        • @DeWalt: I don't mind AliExpress, but Yahoo have nothing to do with them. They simply invested some money in AliBaba when they were just getting started.

        • @DeWalt: I personally see Aliexpress's buyer protection to lie on dodgy side. Not because "It's not PayPal therefore it's automatically bad", but I've heard bad stories from people who frequently use AliExpress. I've heard people saying it's hard to get full refunds even if it's sellers' fault and yaddi yadda. So while I know it's there, I don't assume they'd give me a hassle free experience nor a risk free shopping.

That said, I've not had a case where I needed a full refund or any refund at all. I've always stuck to stores with reasonable feedback scores and stuck to product range that I knew getting a fake wouldn't matter too much on (i.e. Screen protector, OTG cable, phone case, wacom stylus etc) so yeah.

        • @Oversimplified: I've had over 250 purchases with aliexpress. I've had 3 dodgy orders/sellers where aliexpress cancelled the transaction. I've had maybe 6 items not arrive and have received my money back. I've bought fake USB/SD 3 times and received full refunds. I've had 3 items arrive which were not as advertised and have received full refunds. The seller doesn't want to loseoney and will be hesitant in giving a refund but if you show proper evidence -eg photos, then aliexpress will side with you.

I've also had items arrive which were as advertised but I misread the item description. Overall I've had a very positive experience and recommend it to any one.

My main piece of advice is in regards to SD/USB memory that is too cheap. If it is too cheap then it is fake.

I always double check prices between aliexpress, eBay and dhgate.

Aliexpress. It caters to a population of over a billion people in China alone. Not counting Russia, India, etc. It's huge. It dwarfs eBay. Its bigger than amazon. And people still say "I don't trust my credit card to them".

          Yeah.

Maybe I have been lucky to have had 5 years and 250 transaction that have gone pretty much perfectly.

        • @altomic: I've not used AliExpress as extensively as you have (then again, I never used eBay until like 2 years ago, so meh). My experience generally correlates with yours. Never had much problems, had more problems with eBay and other Chinese dealers tbh, from my experience.

That said, I have heard cases that have gone wrong, far more than cases I've heard about Amazon and other vendors (at least, frequency wise). It's not from Ozbargain (obviously since we don't see these deals often) but from another website I go to. They focus far more on deals from places like China, US and Europe, so larger sample size in both quality (more people with experiences from various different vendors from China and other places) and quantity (more people buying from abroad in general). I am wary of those cases.

The problem I see with AliExpress is, return is PITA and after sales service is hard to get (hence why I buy things that I can throw away without feeling bad when they break). I've heard that Amazon handles returns and those services better than AliExpress from cases people have posted.

Also, in my opinion, size of the company doesn't really matter when it comes to whether you could trust them with your personal information (Since if size matters, companies in Australia should be considered more dodgy than many many companies in China because of the population difference). Whether you can trust them depends on your trust on the legal system (i.e. will the company be punished enough if there is an information leak?), whether you could hold accountable for your losses etc etc. I personally think companies like Paypal and Amazon to be better in this regard.

So tl;dr, I do see where you are coming from. While I think some of the worries that people have with AliExpress are unreasonable, I wouldn't say it's based on nothing.

  • Got one thanks heaps OP.

1000mA perfect current to prolong the life of my gadgets batteries, instead of charging them at retarded rates ABOVE 1C @ like +2amps

    • I usually (but not always) respect Quora. However, if engineered correctly, 2amps can be fine. I've not had an issue with Apple's chargers and engineering of batteries.
However, shitty design at 1amp will be much worse than well designed gear at 2amps.
I'd also wager this unit squeals with a high pitch.

It's also worth reading the final note on your link. It talks about why 2amp chargers are fine.

  • Cheap chargers like this have been known to damage the electrics of cars, which is costly and dangerous. I would not risk it.

  • How safe are these? Where is it made?

  • Don't spoil your expensive device. I just got a cheap dual charger from dicks at $2, down from $25

i bought a cheap one for 2 buck from china, next morning my car battery was flat…

Either that was the quickest postage in history from China to Australia, or the events weren't linked ;)

    • You are lucky, I knew of some really bad ones that exploded.
