    pretty good deal

  • I think i had the best deal. bought the kogan package (TV+PS3 for 640$ inc postage)..sold the tv for 380$. that made my ps3 price to 260$ excluding the paypal fees for selling the tv that is.

  • do you know where i can get cheap genuine ps3 controller? game currently has $68 delivered.. i just received my xbox controller for $37 after 2 days.

  • Can anyone tell me why I'd better get 120Gb PS3 than 250Gb PS3?

    • cost of hdd will drop in time.. i think most of us doesn't even use 60Gb.. get 250Gb if there's a need of space or its really a good deal and $$$ is not an issue. cheers!

      • PlayTV… If your gonna record alot of TV, best to get the bigger HDD

      • and you can just buy any generic hdd and install it in should you need to (not sure if it applies for the slim, correct me if I'm wrong)

        • correct, any 2.5" hdd

    • The slim is ugly anyway. Grab one of the older models and throw a new HDD in yourself.

      • Err, the older models are actually more expensive than the slim. There's no reason whatsoever why do so.

        • used should be cheaper

        • 80GB models are not more expensive, and if you can only find ones that are, you're not much of an OzBargainer. Off the top of my head, I know Big W has them for 399 with Killzone 2 bundled in with them — residual promo stock (399 is less than 429 :) I'm sure if you shopped around further, you'd find some even cheaper deals. They are a discontinued line after all.

60GB have been the most expensive on the market, but that's mainly because they're a rarity with backwards compatibility.

I personally think the new slims are ugly:
          - No touch buttons
          - Matte finish instead of gloss
          - Requires extra stand for those who want to stand it on its side (not my thing, anyway)
          - No Nix support (again, not really a big deal.. being phased out anyway AFAIK)

          • @pais: Then again, you do get bitstream support for TruHD and HDMA.

            Plus they supposedly run cooler.

            • @atlas: they're ment to run cooler and use less power due to a change in the manufacturing process, went from 45nm to 32nm
the very first one was 90nm then i think they went to 45nm in the third gen model iirc and now the slim is using 32nm
plus the slim has a redesigned cooling system

  • phat consoles are hacked via the linux OS

pick one up while you can, oh and don't update it past 3.15 as sony are set to remove the other OS option soon

    • they already have havent they? slim ps3 dont support other os
and if u want to play online sony forces u onto the latest anyway

      • i stated phat console, not slim

also there have been bypasses for the online play / update thing for a long time (though recently sony put a halt to them)

7% cashback on Fishpond through Moneybackco apply to this?

Oh, and "HELPFISH34" to get an additional $5 discount.

  • Well this is timely… my PS3's HDMI port got fried in the recent thunderstorms. Might pick one up as a replacement.

If I change my mind I can always return it!

    • Sony do out-of-warranty repairs for $250 (I think it is)

      • $250 to fix an HDMI port? May as well spend the extra $150 and get another console!

Alternatively, you can also get a component -> HDMI converter which I may get (approx 50 bux).

        • or get an extra console, then sell the faulty one on ebay as faulty. will still fetch a fair price for it.

  • how many years is the Sony warranty for brand new consoles anyway?

  • 1 year

  • Not that much of a good deal (Unless its the only thing you want to purchase), I paid $530 for the PS3 (120gb) + extra genuine dualshock 3 + an extra 2 years of warranty in November.

    • still a good deal regardless. the controller can be had for around $60-70 and not everybody needs extended warranty (most of them are just money making schemes anyway).

    • Bah, so what's your point? Can you get that deal Right Now? No point comparing current prices with the all-time-low if it's not available any more.

      • who are you talking to?

yes you can get the controller for $60-70 right now, excluding shipping time. my point is $429 + $65 = $494. it's still cheaper than jared444's deal.

        • My response was to jared444, not you! :-) Just the way that the comments are nested…

  • I picked up mine today.

By the way there was a second deal - $489 for PS3 slim, extra controller, and one game (choice of Assassin's Creed, Quantum of Solace, Red Faction). Not a bad deal I thought. I think the controller itself is around $60? I was considering getting it, but I use my PS3 more for multimedia capabilities.

    • Sure about that extra controller? I'm 100% certain that it was just the regular bundle (with included controller) and the game, not an extra controller.

      • You might be right. I didn't actually ask - I just noticed that it specifically mentioned the controller separately, where as the $429 special did not mention the controller at all.
