Yep pretty much. Seems all the soundbars are manufactured by the TV manufacturers too - coincidence? I think not…
Manufacturers inventing a market to sell more stuff. Ironically telling us their tvs are crap and you need to upgrade the sound.
Well to be fair it's a bit of a Catch 22. Sony put amazing speakers into their 4K TVs and everyone complained about how thick the bezels were and how unnecessary good built in speakers were. They can't really win when consumers clearly value and are wowed by amazing thin frames/bezels and a lot don't really care about good sound.
These really only struck me as being worthwhile if you don't have somewhere to connect a speakers or a audio equipment and it needs to be hung on the wall with a sub somewhere. I am still using my creative gigaworks t3, much cheaper and possibly better sounding

Are soundbars only popular because TV's sound has gone to the dogs? Was watching and old CRT the other day and the sound was amazing on its own. Depth of bass in a TV is unheard of these days.
