I see that there are a lot of doubts around inclusion with the Vodafone starter pack $40 sim card in question. I also wasn't sure when I purchased it. So, the card comes with the following (don't go by what's mentioned on the pack since some packs are old and not aligned with the current offerings), which you get by default when you activate it (call 1512 to check what is included or sign up for online account on myvodafone):

28 days card validity (incoming calls and txt will continue even after 28 days)
    Unlimited national txt and calls
    5GB data (3GB default + 2GB Christmas bonus)
    90 minutes of intl calling
$40 of credit (to be consumed within 28 days)

Now, after activating the card, you can call customer care and convert this $40 to either data or intl calls if you think that you aren't going to use it for anything additional which isn't included (such as intl text or directory calls and things like that) and they will do it for you. I converted $40 to intl calls and I got 500 additional minutes - all to be consumed before 28 days. Remember - they can convert credit balance to features only once in the lifetime of the number but then I knew that I am not going to use $40 in 28 days anyway, so I rather got it converted to intl calls now which I may end up using.

I was disappointed that no one who activate the sim explained the subject in detail to help other OzBargainers, so finally I took the initiative finally. Hope this helps!

Note: 'Starter pack' word is very misleading as the carriers also use this word for the normal, plain vanilla sim card without any credit or balance on it. So, don't get misled in the store. Look for 'starter pack' with $40 credit (or whatever amount you are eyeing for) on it otherwise you would end up buying only the sim card (without any balance on it) which an OzBargainer can even manage to get for free at times.

Champ thanks so much for this! I spent 10 min reading the pack, googling, on Vodafone site and searching this post and couldn't find much on inclusions.

    • Hey vhirl, never heard you can convert the recharge credit to data! How much data would the $40 give you do you know?

      • You need to call and buy data with the credit that you already have in the account. I am not sure of data but I got 500 intl call minutes (to 10 countries) for $40. I am sure you can buy data/ intl minutes but only once in the lifetime of the number. I didn't understand the logic though. If I have credit, why can't I buy the allowance using my own money in future - why restriction of only once? And if I can't buy allowance, why would I keep extra credit in my account unless Vodafone gifted me like in this case? lol..

Probably they want to push other value-add offerings (beyond data and intl minutes) through the credit! That could be the reason.

  • Went to Brendan park, Vic.

Have some in the counter, but only 1 per customer.

Got the last 1tb seagate portable at Broadway.
Staff was pretty shifty and told me no stock. Saw the seagate at the glass and told them I want to buy it. Thanks to the person posting pic.

Can these sims be converted to to the 365 day plan for the kids to use? on Vodaphone

    • The 365 day recharge has not changed much over the years but it is still great to see that Vodafone offers a longer term recharge. Each recharge comes with a call allowance and Vodafone call allowance. Data is $2/MB.
      http://prepaidplans.com.au/mobile-phone/vodafone-prepaid-pla…

I figured about 18 * $2.13 calls available useful with that thing.
interesting when most suppliers long ago updated these rates.

  • How to unlock the huawei and how much?

    • It is already unlocked

      • looks like the phone is 32gb version from DS computer. Has anyone opened it?

        • Yes, I was told that it is 32GB version and hence the reason I bought it. But when I came back home to find its 16gb model and only 2gb RAM

        • @OzSikhs: Hey mate, if you don't want it, I'l gladly take it off your hands!

        • @Boomeraang: You can, but I paid $269.40 for mine, I bought less than a week before this deal was up. I have tax invoice as an evidence.

        • @OzSikhs: Oh, that sucks. Have you tried going back to them and asking them to refund the difference?

        • @Boomeraang: yes I did, but they refused and said I can return the item if don't want it.

"Regular customer" - a.k.a store manager.

  • There is still an Xperia Z at my store but apparently it's not reduced from $200 because it's related to vodafone. Anyone confirm the legitimacy of this?

  • Thanks for posting this deal! I picked up a few SIMs from the Liverpool DSE (NSW) where both sizes scanned at $2 each. When I left, there were 2 SIMs in the cabinet and possibly a few more behind the counter. It's best to ask staff either way.

    • What do you mean by both sizes?

      • Standard/micro and nano, I assume.

        • Ok.. I didn't even notice Nano sim cards in stock. They were all standard/micro combination.

      • I meant small and large. The small manufacture date is in 2013 whereas the large is in 2014. Both are multi-fit packs (Standard and micro-SIM).

        • So you meant the small-sized pack and large-sized pack.. is it? But, content in both is same. Is that what you meant?

  • called the beenleigh store in qld in the morning they said they had 5 in stock. she sounded surprised they were only $2. i asked for them to put a few a aside. lady said limit is 3 per customer. went i got there to pick them up she said the limit was 2 per customer. i think staff may have brought the rest for themselves if not there should be 3 left. is there such a think as a limit per customer or its just staff making up rules ?

    • Staff are making these up.

Don't forget the family and friends 10% off. Brought it down to $1.80. And don't let the staff tell you otherwise becuase it works.

    • Any deadline before which we need to activate it by the way?

      • talking about sims? That's the beauty of these: there is none

        • Nice!!! I should have bought a few.

    • Ahh… Forgot about this. Could've saved $2.

  • Hi fellas! For future reference: could I use one of these SIMs in an iPad purely for its data? I haven't got a SIM for the old iPad mini 3G I was given, but since it's got a slot I might…

  • Anyone tried using the Huawei with amaysim? it doesnt seem to work?

    • I think they are locked with Vodafone network, but you can get a unlock code from Vodafone for free.

  • any idea on stock levels for mate7 in Sydney?

    Cheers.

  • I bought two at Burwood yesterday.
