  • I got it for $126 but that was DSE matching Joyce Mayne. So great for a very common store and easy to get matched

  • awesome.
I got it for around this price with a moneybackco (which i still havent got paid)
    very good deal

  • i got it for 125$ must be magic

  • Still needs to come down…anyone of you guys experiencing stutter?
Like the dollar still 90+ cents this should be under $100!

    • never had stutter on mine. no issue whatsoever.
sometimes my ps3 does crash (once a month) but not sure it's playtv's fault.

    • 2 words: Freeview certification.

  • Might finally get the PlayTV. Was gonna get it as soon as it released but did not see the point since I don't really watch THAT much TV. But with IPL starting, I wanna record some games onto the PS3.

Perfect use for it - the occasional user.

Dont expect too much from this "toy" PVR.

It can do a good job, but is very limited, do your research first, ie:

      http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PlayTV/bd-p/bANZ_PS3_…

      My 2 cents worth.

      • All PVRs have issues.
A mate of mine had a truckload of issues with his 3 different topfield PVRs, he decided to switch to windows media center.
        and still has issues.

Unfortunately nothing is perfect these days.

I've had no problems with the playtv. my friend used to have to fiddle with his topfield on a weekly basis.

Not saying it doesnt work, its just not all that feature packed.
Good price for a "pvr" yes, but you need to add the PS3 price into the equation (and maybe HDD upgrade)

          • No Dual Tuners
          • Chews up HDD space in NO time
          • Buggy when used whilst recording HD and playing games
          • Many reports of various bugs and unhappy customers(see previous link)

Like I said it does a good job if you dont expect all that much from it.

Like most* PVR's it has its issues.

TIVO FTW!! (yes its dear - but its damn good)

For every good point, I can find a bad point so I will agree it is "cool" but not all that real world practical…..

@John Dough: just a little bit of a correction.

            1) price is affordable if you already have a ps3. I dont think anyone would buy it if they dont own a ps3 already.
            2) it has dual tuners
            3) all PVRs save files in the encoding that comes over the air. so they all chew space at the same rate.
            4) personally i've hadnt experienced any problems when doing that
            5) all pieces of tech have unhappy customers, specially newly introductions to the market.

I'm not saying its the best PVR out there. but it works well and it's cheap.

been using it for a while and its very practical.

@elcheapoinoz: Just another correction, (we can do this forever)

              1) Just getting in before people say "it is the cheapest pvr" because it is not a PVR
It is an add on to a PS3, and usually needs a HDD upgrade to your PS3 to be practical.( No easy feat to the average user)
              2) It does not have "true" twin tuner capability (a big neg for me/my family)
ie - will not record 2 channels at once, it will, however record one, and watch another.
              3) All PVR's do NOT record the .ts (transport stream) some compress with good results.
Sony have decided its Play TV WILL record the raw .ts stream, therefore HD recordings are massive (but on the positive side, look VERY good)
4/5) Some have problems, some dont, depends on how far you stretch the capabilities - the odd recording etc will be fine, but it is not practical for many people that have adopted PVR's into their house as it is not capable of a few key things that I have mentioned earlier.

I personally do not want one, I have used one on a friends PS3 and seen what it can do. Some things like PQ and the menus are great, but some things are not so great. It is personal choice.

Just trying to let people know that in the real world where a PVR that is used as the TV viewing hub, users will find this device lacking. It will fill up very quickly, and it will not allow simultaneous recording which lets it down.

The PS3 has proven to be a great media centre for me, and I watch recorded tv from my HTPC, look forward to the next Play Tv release, and hope that it can do better ;)

  • love the price when compare to other retails in australia

hate the price when it's only 29.95 pounds in UK

    • 29.95 pounds!!?!?!? Australian prices are absurd!!!

      • Where in the UK? Can we buy it online and get it shipped?

        • There are known issues with importing Play TV.
I would link to Playstation forums, but work blocks it (see above link and search for import playtv or scan through.

You could try this link also: http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=play+tv+import+uk

Also I think Cloud226 is basically saying the "UK ozbargainers" can get it for that price.

It still works out to about 50 AUD plus postage so more like $80. (I couldnt find it for 30 Pounds after a quick look anyway)

Import at your own risk. I think that $129 AUD is a bargain compared to what it released at.

          • @John Dough: i personally still bought from australia considering the warranty etc.

and it's true it might have compatibility issue with the imported.

what i was saying is not persuading anyone buying it from UK, i just tried the illustrate the face that australian price sometimes is ridiculous!

and the £29.99 price tag, if you go http://www.hotukdeals.com and search for playtv, you'll find heaps.

            • @cloud226: Yep thats what I thought! Essentially its just a TV tuner in a fancy box, the PS3 has the software and the HDD.
It should be cheaper, but you pay for the SONY badge!

I would get one just to have it if it was 50 AUD!
