It's back. HP D5560 Wireless Printer $37 at Officeworks

220

The front page of upcoming Officeworks catalogue shows HP D5560 Wireless Printer for $37. The catalogue is not on Officeworks website yet. The price is supposed to be valid from 25 February but I grabbed one yesterday. it's quick, reasonably OK quality printer for occasional use. And it's wireless!

  • Yep i saw this in the catalogue last Saturday and nearly bought one on that day.. they had about 3-4 left in stock at Brisbane City then. Reviews for this printer online are reasonably positive (avg around 4 out of 5) so seems like a good deal to me for a wireless inkjet!

Please officeworks god(s), make a wireless laser under $100!!!!

Not likely , most wont have networking for that price (a decent one) best idea is to get a wireless router that has usb ports that way plug it in to your router and its a wireless printer also same for hard disk via usb , great way to set up wireless hard disk and wireless print or multi function

      • Not an expert but I think your router needs to have a built in print server to do this.

        • You can always connect any printer to a computer, and use window's printer sharing.
Never saw a need for wireless printers.

          • @amkssg: Then you have to keep the printer connected computer turned on all the time. And I haven't had much luck with Mac&Windows combinations.

            • @Sharp: True… it's great only if you are purely on PC. Getting MAC & PC to communicate on the same level is a pain.

              • @amkssg: No it's not. It's as easy as getting 2 or more PCs to communicate.

        • No most routers that have usb as an option will/should do this , i am not talking about 3g routers, here is an example it it works well for printing scanning etc

so many good fetures as you can set the hard disk/router as an ftp almost torrent able

          • @Mikinoz: so…(speaking as a relative IT thickie)….let me see if I have this right…..you could purchase this router, plug in a hard drive, then share that hard drive with any computer/media player with wireless access? Is that irrespective of any internet connectivity?
IE, could I put just this, and a hard drive in a room somewhere in the house and be able to access media files on squeezebox and the like?

      • Good thinking! USB+ Wireless router = wireless network! Love the idea! :)

    • Thanks for the tips guys… when i haves some spare time, I am going to give printer sharing a go with my Brother Laser…

  • I'm guessing like other HP printers there is no cheap way to refill/replace the ink?

  • This is cheaper than the refills

    • They used to fill printers with only a bit of ink, so it wasn't cheaper to buy a bunch of the printers …

      • and this is the catch… the ink may cost more than the printer

  • Great post mate!!! Thanks

    • Cheers :)

  • I wonder if several PCs can connect to one of these without confusion?

    • Yes.

      • With the use of a router. On their own… I don't think they can. The printer looks for a wireless network name and you usually punch in the password for that network.

Connecting directly with a computer involves making the computer create a wireless network AP out of it's wireless card.

  • Im thinking of getting one instead of buying new ink as I bought a hp all in one for $25 a while back (cashback deal) but this seems better as its wireless and I found I took ages to even use up the intro carts

    • Careful as the printers have "starter" carts that are not full, unlike the refills you buy.

      • .

  • Just got one this morning in Sydney. Thanks for the posting. Any idea where I can buy dirt cheap ink (any is fine, does not have to be HP) for this little sucker?

  • I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, when they had it fo $37 "by mistake". It's really cool having wireless, i'm surprised that it's instant once i press the print button. Nice small unit too, good for a 2nd printer. Whether i will buy new ink cartridges once the starters run out, i'm not sure.

  • i just bought the last one at officeworks loganholme. looked pretty popular. they only had 1 lying on the floor so i took it. looks pretty good for what it is. ink is $52 for a full refill both colour and black

    • Haha i sent the wife in to Loganholme too this morning and there were heaps! Glad you got there in time to get the last one : ) Great deal!! Great 1st post Sharp!!

      • haha good thing she left me one.

im out of black ink already anyone know the best place to buy black ink maybe the no.60 XL size?

Ok so I've come across this many times.

USB printer shared through a computer means that:

1 - Your computer must always be on
2 - Your printer is limited to being placed a cable lengths distance away from the computer

USB printer shared through a router means that:

1 - You do not need an always on computer to print
2 - Your printer is limited to being placed a cable lengths distance away from the router

Finally - Wireless Printer means that:

1 - No computer has to be turned on
2 - The printer can be placed anywhere where there is a power point

Therefore the best solution is the wireless printer for flexibility - you could put it in a cupboard downstairs or in the kitchen or wherever.

If you already own a good printer - then the best solution may be the router with a USB port.
