920
XMAS30

Buying a Kindle for Christmas and thought I'd give yesterday's codes a try. XMAS30 seems to still be working on most things over $149.

Hope this helps someone out there, Merry Christmas.

It's only Xmas30 which looks to be working. Worked on Fitbit charge HR but they will probably just cancel order if I go through with it.

    • +2

I ordered a Kindle from them a couple of months ago when codes were not supposed to stack but they honoured it without question - wouldn't be too worried.

  • Many thanks!

  • Good price

  • ordered one, thx

  • Is it worth considering the 3G version?
I don't mind paying extra but I don't know if it would even be used.

    • +2

You'd only use 3g if you want to buy/download a book online and wifi isn't available to you or you don't want to use it.

    • +6

The first kindle I bought was a 3G model; figured I might be able to use it as a tablet(!)
Save yourself the money - wifi (only) is the way to go

      • Thanks.

    • +8

no, if you ever need internet if you don't have access to wifi, just tether to your phone.

      • +1

This! I doubt you would even be in a situation where you needed to download a book AND didn't have access to wifi. 3G would be useful for travelling, sure, but you can load up on the books you want before you leave.

    • +3

There's only one situation I've made use of my 3G access: using the experimental mode I can use the web browser, point it to my Calibre server, and download mobi books from there (while overseas) =D

  • Is this the absolute latest model?

    • Says the model number is B00QJDU3KY. Amazon seems to indicate that it's the "all new" Kindle Paperwhite (http://www.amazon.com/All-New-Kindle-Paperwhite-High-Resolut…)

    • This one is from July this year I believe. So it is quite new.
      Edit: beat by 10 seconds.

    • -6

yeah tomorrow is the end of the world

      • +3

get gooder at english. "latest" is always a relative term even if you put "absolute" in front of it. paradoxical innit?

    • Yes, released in June 2015.

edit: snaked by other commenters while I double checked.

  • +1

Thanks OP bought one as a Christmas present, now I need to find a half decent cover for it.

  • You're a legend. I was about to buy this from the eBay promo, but they disabled C&C. Turns out, it was for the better – used my gift card too! 🙏🏼

    • Wish card or DS gift card?

      • Dick Smith (do they even take WISH ones anymore?)

        • They did recently, until they changed the layout of their checkout system. This has only happened in the last week or so, but definitely can't get any wish card to work now.

  • Works on the voyage too if you consider a $261 Kindle to be a bargain http://www.dicksmith.com.au/ereaders-accessories/kindle-voya…

    • Why is this 2x the price? is it 2x as good?

      • +16

Yeah this one lets you read all One Hundred Shades of Grey.

  • Can you use it as a iPad?

    • +2

no, it's just an ereader for reading ebooks downloaded from the Amazon store

      • +1

no, it's just an ereader for reading ebooks downloaded from the Amazon store

*anywhere. Just format it in Calibre.

  • Did anyone's order get confirmed? Mine got cancelled

    • I received an Order Acknowledgement email from DS and a Payment Receipt email from PayPal if that means anything…?

    • Got an order acknowledgement email so assume it's a confirmation..

      • Thanks I just tried again using PayPal and it seems to have worked.
Funny how last time I used the exact same cc with Tricky dicky and it worked fine.

        Thanks OP for posting this!

        • Got an email saying it's cancelled cause they aren't able to confirm I'm actually an authorised card holder…dick move. Using PayPal this time.

  • is this the 4GB model? Anyone know approx how many ebooks this equates to?

    • +3

typical novel is <2MB for mobi format

    • It has a cloud thing that you can leave previously read books sitting in so they don't take up actual kindle space if you happen to go over.

Edit: Also the cloud is good for the gazillions of free e-books you'll never read too.

  • Is this worth getting over the Kindle Touch 6" Wi-Fi 4GB, which is priced at $108.32?.

Apart from the better screen, what else is different from both models?.

    • +2

      Better font resolution, inbuilt light

    • I believe the PaperWhite has a good back-light.

No stock for pickup in Perth boo :(

I have 2x kindle keyboards from a long time ago….grabbed one of these "for the wife" for xmass…haha

  • +1

    Mines ready for collection.

    • Thanks for the update - i was getting worried. :)

  • Thanks OP! Been waiting for a paperwhite deal and finally pulled the trigger!

  • Will Dick honour 2 year warranties? And does it cover physical damage like broken screen or only manufacturer defects?

  • Just bought one. I have a PW 2 that is working well, so I didn't need this. But I checked eBay and used PW2 still sell for nearly the price of this new HR version, so I'm hoping to sell my current one for this one for not much more.

  • Can't decide between Kindle and Kobo. Anyone had experience with both?

    • Also interested in this. There's a waterproof Kobi, isn't there?

      • Yeah Kobo H2O. I'm very interested in this for the other half. Currently $229 but hoping for a sale on it.

i think the equivalent Kobo to this is the Kobo Glo HD currently on sale for $159 at JB.

    • We have both. The missus prefers the Kindle, I don't really care as they both work as intended.

      • Sounds like both are good devices. More concerned with being locked-in to Amazon v what seems like more freedom with Kobo.

        • +5

Download the program called calibre and you can load anything you want onto your Kindle.

        • +1

No lock in mate…can load anything.

    • +1

I've got a glo, whilst wife has kindle. Much of a muchness really. The only thing I miss is not being able to email files like you can with the kindle. Book formats are easily converted so not much issue there.

  • Thanks OP! Been meaning to grab a Kindle for a while to start saving some space (and money) on books.

Got to spend money to save money in this case! :)

  • Thanks, ordered a Fitbit Charge HR for $129 at 2pm. Now ready for pick up. Nice!

  • Dang it. Just bought two at $170 (for gifts) each last week … sigh

  • damn it i just bought a paperwhite 2014 edition +3g for $89! last weekend!

    • Bargain!!

      • Agree considering it has 3g that is a good bargain.

  • Not having any success using this code on the Fitbit Charge HR now, it seems to be invalid now. Anyone else have any luck?

    • it's definitely still working. tried it successfully on a garmin sportswatch.

    • It's not working for the small only the large.

  • Finally got myself a cheap Kindle!

  • Anyone got a second best deal for a Kindle? bummed out I missed this deal.

  • Dicksmith dicked me…went to pick up my Kindle. After I went home and checked to make sure they gave me the right one (because kindles all look very similar, they gave me the Kindle Touch 6' (aka basic model). http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tablets-accessories/kindle-6-bla…

Going back to return this shit. Aint paying $40 more.

  • Guys thanks for the deal - lost my kindle 6 weeks ago and looking to replace - xmas30 code worked and got it for $146 - collected this morning.

    • I assume you claimed it long before posting this comment, as I was unable to.

  • Hey guys..can someone confirm the model number of the kindle they got? I got model number DP75SDI (from the kindle manual).. A quick google search showed this is 2013 version

    • I'm not sure where you got the model number from but I can say on the back of the box it mentions the new 300 ppi screen and the box front has an opened book (as opposed to multiple book covers in the 2013 version).

To further confirm using your serial number, follow this site's instruction:
      http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers

You should look for G090 G1 at the front of the serial number.

  • Does the legit XMAS20 code work for anyone? can't get anything to work on DS :( I want to give them money and they don't want it
