Tenda Wireless-N Broadband Router - $38.90 Delivered

70

Zazz have the Tenda wireless-N router for $29.95 plus $8.95 delivery. Unbelievable price for a wireless-N router. I don't know anything about how good/bad it is, so do your reviews first. I can say that I bought the Tenda wireless-N dongle a few weeks back, and while it works really well, the one downfall is that it doesn't resume from S3 standby. When I wake my PC up, i have to unplug it and plug it back in. Hoping a future driver update fixes this.

  • Sorry - its probably a dumb question - will it work for my ADSL2+ line (I'm with TPG)

    • +1

This is a broadband router only, not a modem. If you have cable or ADSL, you'll need to keep your existing modem, then run a cable from it into the "in" port of this router.

I find it highly misleading that it has "broadband" in the title when it has absolutely nothing to do with broadband. Why not use other random words too? What about "Dual Core" or "pr0n".

        • Huh? "Broadband router" is a common term (google it), because that's exactly what it is. It routes your broadband connection around your home, either via wireless, or one of the wired ports. If it used the word "modem" that would be misleading. But if you're confused by "broadband", that might be more your issue than theirs.
I like the idea of pr0n though, 'coz let's face it, that's about 90% of what we're trying to route, right?

          • @juzdownunder: IT IS misleading though.. Even on the boxes of products, you really have to hunt to make sure they have a modem included or not. Most of the time by looking at the bank of the unit. PITFA.

@Koonit: It would only be "misleading" if they put the word "modem" on there! Otherwise what you're saying is that anyone who sells a broadband router, without the word "modem" on it, is misleading the public. Don't you see the irony? Are you asking everyone to put "not a cable/adsl/adsl2 modem" on the box?

It's like saying that if I sell a box of cornflakes, I have to specify that it's not Nutri-grain inside!

Tell me that it's confusing trying to understand if you need to buy a modem, modem/router or router, and i'll agree. But don't blame Tenda for not making it clear that their product is NOT a modem.

@juzdownunder: Agree with juzdownunder. Can you imagine a product title called "Tenda Wireless-N Broadband 'NOT A MODEM' Router". Now how confusing is that, but then I can see people complaining they bought the wrong product because the word modem is there. All the major players use the term Broadband Router.

              • @juzdownunder: That wasn't what I said, nor is it what I'd expect. When a company uses the word broadband people expect it to connect to there broadband.
It's a wireless router. Nothing more, nothing less.

        • OP is correct. It is a Broadband Modem. You need to go back to school IMO C:

@stingyasian88: NO, it's not a "Broadband Modem", it's a Broadband router! Sheesh…anyway, sale is finished now.

          • -1

@stingyasian88: LOL. Was that an obvious attempt at trolling or are you actually that dense?

            • @Koonit: TFF..i'm not the one getting confused by the words "Broadband" and "Router" on a box!

    • If you are using a standard modem, then this will plug into the ethernet port of your modem, it doesn't matter if you are on ADSL 1 or 2+.

      Edit:
DOH! juzdownunder beat me to it!

  • Bappy yes it will work with TPG ADSL2+ As this is just a router but the question is how good will it work.

  • I am in market for a new modem/adsl2+/ wireless/voip for a TPG ADSL2+ connection as well. The one they give out does seem to have good reviews. The one everyone recommended does seem to be available anymore. OPEN824RLW which was zazz few months ago for $80 or so. Broadbandgear website seem to have it but now have gone out of business. Does anyone know where I can get it from or any other alternative. Ideally under $100 for a good one.

  • so back to the original question.. .how is this router…any reviews or spec sheet…like is 150 or 300

  • I bought the USB adaptor last time it was being sold cheap. It didn't last long and the Mac software was pretty bad. Hard to recommend, but you might get lucky and have it work for you.

"Provides up to 150Mbps uploading and downloading speed"

this is a very basic N router

it is 1T1R which isn't as good as even a basic $40-$50 router

you should be looking at a 2T2R/3T3R router which is signified by 2 or 3 antennas which gives you a max of 300Mbps instead of just half that

    this is a better router:

i bought one like a year ago and it does 300Mbps

    I have one. Full 300Mbps up/down.

    • Yeah I got a ASUS RT-N11 a few months ago and can recommend it. It's atleast 5 times faster at copying files to my laptop than my old wireless G router and it has atleast 3 times the range.

    Full spec here
    http://www.tenda.cn/product/show.php?productid-353.html

As tonyjzx said, this is a very basic N (not even full N - only upto 150Mb). It's best to avoid and go for one of the better brands.
