And when they become "successful" the owners sell out to an overseas concern just like many other Aussie business has done when they become successful. and BTW you now indicate that your negative vote isn't about the deal its about jingoism and personal bias. So much for supporting a bargain!!

So is it now ok to vote negative because Woolies Iceream on special is Vanilla not Neopolitan?? Get real.

Grill'd did this 2 years ago - they offered a free burger a day if you were doing Movember. You didn't have to prove it - just have a mo and fill out a form to get a stamp card. I raised heaps of money, but all these blokes started growing mo's just to get free burgers. I went there one night only to be told they changed the offer. Even though I was by myself I was told if I buy a burger, my "Mo Sista" can have a free one.

Now this. Grill'd, if the offer is only available to Uni Times readers/students, put it in the fine print. If only printed copies are accepted, put it in the fine print. Stop blaming customers for your mistakes.

    Good one Nando's!

Just used in Nando's Ballarat. I was the first one! Guy happily accepted, however, he said it only comes with FREE Classic Chicken Breast Burger ($7.90) or Classic Chicken Breast Wrap ($6.90). Still good deal, I'll be going back this weekend. The guy was funny, bagging out Grill'd big time

    • +2

should be any burger or wrap according to their website and their voucher…….

Anyone who brings in a copy of the Grill'd voucher to any Nando's restaurant nationally will be able to buy any burger or wrap and receive one of equal or lesser value for free.

      http://www.nandos.com.au/stage/voucherdownload.php

      • That's what I thought also. It didn't matter anyway as we wanted the chicken burger. I will see what happens next time I go in.

    • Had no worries at Ballarat on Wednesday night. Got the Classic Double Breast Burger in a meal. With another Classic Double Breast Burger free. Plenty of chips in a meal to share with two! Your right, the guy was quite funny.

  • didnt see these posts before going to Grill'd and this bloody guy at the counter even said that these vouchers are a scam. i'm going to nando's from now on.

btw, anyone tried out at urban burger? that's awesome burgers too…

Go nandos for using Grilld's handling of this matter to their advantage. Went to grill'd today for lunch (at westfields doncaster) and was told that it was a fake, in front of other customers!

I had no idea that the electronic copy wasn't accepted at the time so i was pretty shocked to hear of another fake especially since it was in a utimes paper. Anyway, i still bought from there but that was the last time. They treated me like a criminal and the voucher wasn't even a fake afterall. If they had just said 'sorry electronic copies aren't accepted' then that would've been find and i would've been happy. But to accuse me of presenting a fake voucher, and rather rudely (she literally said "that's a fake" as soon as i presented it) is just plain bad customer service. Last time i go to Grill'd.

  • mmm just ate at nando's :)

is there anything stopping us from printing and using the voucher again?

    • Only number of days before the 15th I imagine… ;)

  • +2

only your full stomach I suspect :P

  • HAHA now Grill'd look stupid- bad PR for them, good PR and advertising for Nandos and Urban Burgers!!!

  • Lol, Grilled just got BURNED!!! XD

    • Here, here…Come on Oporto grow a pair and jump in.

  • +10

    WHAT Grill'd SHOULD DO NOW:

    1. Fire their marketing team for their incompetence in failing to:
    a) specify in the voucher that reproduction copies are not acceptable;
    b) realise that there is an on-line version of the publication and
its reader could only obtain the voucher by printing it.

    2. Sack their Public Relation Manager, who, despite the fiasco caused by their incompetence, had accused customers of "manipulating" the voucher (given many companies DO accept reproduction vouchers unless stated otherwise).

    3. Issue an announcement of the above dismissal and a proper public apology on their website without attempting to justify themselves in any way.

    UNTIL THIS IS DONE,
Customers who felt offended should simply boycott the brand and its chain.

    • -1

It's not going to happen IMHO. In Asia if you complain they bend over backwards to help. In the few years I've been here they just say if you don't like it stick it. They don't want to use their (limited) manpower to deal with individual cases.

Others may have had different experiences. I'm sure of that. Just giving my experience.

    • -1

The only reason I can't completly boycott Grill'd is that come Movember i'm hoping for some more free burgers :)

Massive props to the Nandos marketing team - even if they wear a loss to their profits because of this, they will attract a legion of loyal customers whilst also putting a dent in a market competitor. Impressive damn effort indeed. Nandos marketing team, if you're reading this as part of your "after-action" check on the success of your campaign, please feel free to use all of my above comment, and the below:

"You rock - well done indeed."
    applause

    • No way will they make a loss from this. It's basically free publicity + stealing Grill'd customers

  • Does this deal only work if you just buy a burger, or if you buy a meal (burger chips drink) do you get a free burger too?

    • Typically you can get a free burger as well if you buy a meal.
You could when they had their free Tropico burger deal thingy.

    • Can confirm you can get it with a meal. I got the Classic Double Breast Burger meal with same burger free.

  • main Nando's page has changed - there is now a voucher of their own

fine print.. is very very small lol ;P

edit - oops i see its already linked :P

  • Seriously i dont see what the hype is all about. Its just a free burger. Maccas always does it. Nanods always gives out buy 1/2 chicken get 1/2 free. Well atleast nandos at mt druitt does. I mean 194 positive votes. I mean are people voting for the deal itself or taking it out personally on grilled.

    • +3

mainly taking it out on grill!

    • where do you get the buy chicken and get some free chicken?
hardly even come across those in Mel, if they do its like for
      just one day!

  • they wont make a loss
if ya get like chips or a drink
    they get ya there
or if ya come back anotehr day

Just ate at the Werribee Plaza Nandos. The Wholemeal buns were stale.
Overall burger is really bland. The Burgers are definitely not worth the price, you can get a burger that's twice as good at any local chippy and for less.

        Couldn't have said it better.

This backflip is more of a slap to our faces. They're basically saying what you said - we know you're cheap so you're going to come crawling back to us no matter what we did to you.

So long Grill'd, i'm never going back not after being treated like a criminal. This comes from a long time loyal customer too. Too bad because from now on i'll have to travel that little bit extra to Nandos or Urban Burger (whom i have never heard of until this fiasco by the way).

  • +1

OMG.. so much hate on the Grill'd blog.!!! http://grilld.com.au/section/blog/312/

    The power of cheapness!!

    • +3

buddy, just because you think its about the money doesnt mean everyone else does.

its about principle for most of us, or me at least.

      • You'll be surprise how fast the Australian public can forget!!! But with so many competitions out there. Good luck to them..

        • +1

Well, someone who got stung with last year's movember deal was nice enough to remember and post …

Also, if you think it's all about the money … maybe if you were told in front of bystanders that you were using a fake voucher to try and scam a deal … then you'd empathise with the situation a little better.

You are casting a lot of inflamatory aspersions around about people. This does look like trolling. We get your point that you don't agree and I'll ask that you stop there before we think you are a troll.

          • @SomeGuyOnOzB: Nope, never said this was money related at all. I was just surprised by the number of people posted negatively on the Grilld blog + it will be interesting to see how this may affects their business in the long term. I heard all the good things about this chain. Though I've never tried their products myself, being in NSW. This is a good move by Nandos none the less.

          • @SomeGuyOnOzB: I'm curious to know about the Movember backflip that has been mentioned a few times. What happened? I knew about the deal from the one posted here and went back to look but nobody seemed to have said anything about what had happened.

            • +3

@ohsnap: In November 08, Grill'd decided to give anyone who grew a Mo' a free burger for each day of November. About half way through the month, they pretty much canned that promo and developed a different one as absoloutely everyone was taking advantage (slight exaggeration :p). I admit (being a bit of a cheapskate uni student) waiting in line for about half an hour to get a free burger one day. Didn't do that again though…

  • After grill'ds backflip and now honoring coupons, we now know who really is chicken and which company rules the roost. See how they respond when everyone is giving them the bird. Looks like the head cock cracked under the pressure. Eggsactly! Peri-peri bad.

  • Used 2 vouchers in Myaree WA :)

  • +3

Was going to grill'd for dinner on Friday before the voucher was canned - but after all the poor treatment and with Nandos stepping triumphantly in, couldn't resist going to Nandos (even after the Grill'd backflip).

I remember the movember deal - an since I can grow a full beard in a day it was very tempting. Glad I didn't go to all the hassle involved.

Very poor attempt at marketing and PR from Grill'd. I cannot believe the only T&C they had was an expiry date… how the hell did it ever get signed off, or was it a uni student's first assignment?

I also fully agree this is more about the principle than the money itself - and the ongoing total lack of customer service/satisfaction delivered in Australia, compared to other countries.

  • I had a terrible experience with grill last night, read about it on the other deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22523

    Nandos FTW!

    • called up the chermside store, they said they would accept it now. Might have been an employee who wasnt told. The last few days have been one backflip after another.

Ps. there's still 15 days to go, plenty of time to use the voucher.

      • Thats no excuse. He could have at least taken the 2 seconds to look at the statement which I kindly printed out for them to see.

But no, he was an arrogant smart arse and thought he knew better.

  • +1

I must say, im sorta glad that grill'd screwed this up. I MUCH PREFER NANDOS. Thanx for the free burger/wrap, grill'd!

Now that they too have doen a backflip, i can use that voucher at nandos, urban burger and grill'd. Excellent value!

  • Just got knocked back at the Hawthorn Grill'd store, even though their own website had said they would honour the deal.

Stuff you Grill'd. Nandos up the road got my business instead.

  • went down to southland grilled on the weekend and i had the orignal voucher, the guy
who served me was not very friendly,he looked annoyed. customer services has really
dropped also have to agree with others the burger definitely looks smaller then the
    last time i went.

  • GJ Nandos & UrbanB, there is no charge for awesomeness!

  • . never mind

  • nice I remember the first time I went to Nandos (10 years ago) my wife placed an order for a chicken burger and the guy at the counter goes what would you like on your chicken burger and she replied "chicken"…der…..

    • They now ask, would you like Peri-Peri or lemon and herb sauce … :P

  • Grill'd has done a backflip and is now accepting the vouchers:

    http://www.grilld.com.au/

    Too late!!

    • thanks for the update

Had a bad Nandos experience today….

    Sent this to them -

Today, with my girlfriend, I went to the Carlton (University of Melbourne) branch of Nandos and used the Grill’d voucher; which the press release on the Nandos website said would be accepted.

Judging by the looks that the manager gave us when we presented the voucher, he was obviously annoyed.

We tried ordering wraps he told us that wraps were not part of the deal, so I loaded up the Nandos press release on my phone and showed him that it did indeed say ‘wraps’, but he still refused and said that we were wrong.

After this, we decided to get burgers as it was easier than protesting any further; and we ordered a Classic Double Breast Burger and a Supremo Burger; to which the manager exclaimed ‘So no chips? Just the freebies?’ in a demeaning tone.

Considering this promotion has arguably piggy backed on Grill’ds short falling in valuing their customers and embarrassing many in front of other customers, I thought Nandos managers would be more sensitive of making their customers feel ‘cheap’ and ridiculing them in front of others.

After a while, we were served the burgers and in continuation with everything else, we were disappointed.

I’ve ordered these burgers many times before in both Victoria and Western Australia and frankly, was shocked by the way these had been thrown together. It was the worst experience of Nandos, that both I and my girlfriend have ever had.

Firstly, the Supremo we ordered was replaced with some kind of hybrid Classic Breast Burger, lacking the chutney and on a seeded hamburger roll (see below) rather than the crusty Portuguese roll on the menu.

The chicken had been microwaved, and not grilled in any way (which was a bit rich considering the menu describes them as freshly grilled burgers) and was served on a seeded stale processed hamburger bun which was closer to that of a Hungry Jacks bun that what I’ve had every other time in Nandos. The salad used was sparse and one of the burgers lacked tomato.

    • read one of the previous posts by thomas1987 he complained to head Office and they sent him some vouchers.

Grabbed a couple of burgers from Nando's today. Yum. Thanks Grill'd for your f-up. Kudos to Nando's for seeing a marketing jackpot and taking it.

Hot chick behind the counter at browns plains :)

  • i think the nandos burger i had was lacking a bit of chicken too … wasnt much chicken in the supremo compared to a classic chicken burger i had before, maybe they have matched the grilld deal but have done it by reducing the size of the chicken piece that they use? or was it just the store?

Regardless when the deal is not on, i definitely wouldnt pay $10 for the size of that burger

  • im still going to grill'd on lygon from my uni everyday. thank god students are employed at the place, there is no problem at all. nandos is a nice change up now and then.
