LG Ultrawide Monitor 25" ($220), 29" ($355), 34" ($529) @ MSY Pre Christmas Sale

170

Been keeping an eye out for these ultrawide monitor and they're now on sale. Reckon they're the best prices around for a brand new ultrawide monitor.
The deal is supposedly for the UM57-P version of these monitors but the only UM57-P I could find on MSY website is the 25" version. Probably best to call MSY about the 29" and 34" versions.
In addition, you could also enter yourself into a draw for a car or other prizes with LG here:

  • Thanks. Almost bought the 25 ultra wide earlier this week for $229 with $10 steam code so $220 with no code but closer store for pickup works better for me.

    • Ended up getting the BENQ 27" monitor today and no currently enjoying that on the left, my 34" LG curved ultrawide and my old 22" Viewsonic on the right. :-)

Gigabyte AORUS THUNDER K3 Tournament Edition Cherry Red Mechnical Keyboard for $59 is a very good price!

  • Are these ultrawides actually any good for gaming?

No. Don't let any scrub tell you otherwise.

The only ones good for gaming are the $1000+ ones with G-sync and 144 Hz. If you don't care about having a good experience and all you care about is colour then I suppose one of the 1440p IPS ones are fine. They have a high response time, though.

I personally wouldn't get any of these since they're all 1080p.
At that size, 1440p or 2160p is best.

      • Interesting. Thanks! I am only using a Dell 23" i bought years ago at 1080p. It's fine enough considering PC is a few years old (i5 750 overclocked with ATI HD7950)… but when i do upgrade i assume a new monitor will be on the cards to take advantage of it. Any suggestions?

        • I bought a MG279Q about a month ago and it's bloody amazing, 1440P, IPS (better colours) and 144Hz.

Not cheap though, but it was one of three monitors on the market with those specs above 26", the other two are Gsync so carry a hefty premium.

Honestly that space will probably explode next year bringing the price down. In terms of the three features, #1 would be IPS, #2 would be 1440p and #3 would be 144Hz. However I have a 280x so when I upgrade that, Im looking at Nvidias 2016 line up for a replacement, 144Hz might go to #2.

        • Cheers. I might try and hold out another 6 months or so and see what the market is like then.

      • Or a scrub who assumes everyone has a Nvidia card and can use G-Sync. The larger ones of these actually have Freesync for AMD cards, but they're not 144hz.

I don't care if you don't have a new Nvidia card. So you're saying I shouldn't mention them because not everyone has a new Nvidia card. Talk about being jealous. I don't see your point in mentioning that anyway. If you don't have the requirements for that monitor, then don't have a whinge about it.

I was merely stating which ones are good for gaming. Sorry if that offends you and your wallet.

Not everyone has a Radeon card, so don't mention that monitor, scrub.

Hey genius. You forgot to mention one small catch: you need about $1500-2000 dollars worth of graphics cards to be able to get most Triple-A games running at anywhere close to +100FPS at 2560x1440 or higher resolutions, which is necessary to actually get the perceivable smoothness of 120/144hz monitors, which is the entire point of owning them.

So, why don't you go back to the ladders and the clan wankery of whatever repetitive FPS/MMORPG you play 24/7 and check your E-Peen at the door when you're giving out wildly inaccurate consumer advice.

Agree 100%, can't agree with your tone though, no matter how badly your addressee is behaving.

        • Get a good paying job then.

        • @tendollar: Alright, which Woolworths do you work at? Maybe you can get me rostered for some Christmas Holiday double-time shifts.

    • Also, scrub.

If you care enough, you need to find some human friends.

Actually it's super froody that you have a relatively 'old' rig: it shows you're not a squeezer. I'll put this next bit in bold…

Anyone who is obsessed with the spec of a 'gaming' rig has too much time on their hands (i.e., nobody's prepared to pay them any decent amount for their time).

For the record: I have a Titan X and in the new year will upgrade to a Z - at company expense, because it helps me do my job (not because it gives me bragging rights in some game of Soggy Sao among 'gamers' - people with the cognition of a 12 year old 'Mum-says-I'm-Aspie-but-actually-I'm-just-thick').

I do large-scale CUDA aerial imagery analysis, and a bank of 3 27" acer (and 3 Samsung 23" for other stuff) is more than adequate. (Quad-core i7 with buku RAM helps, too).

And I just bought one of the 34" LG's on offer from MSY (pulled the trigger too early… I paid $600 delivered).

UPDATE: Sicne I'm not paying for it, I just bought another one. Can't have too many big screens, given the amount of free porn on offer… maybe I'll put one in the bog, or above the bath.

Just quietly: anyone who calls a non-gamer a 'scrub' is a squeezer.

I dunno wtf half you lot are on about, but it's entertaining!

      • So in essence you do nothing important. Half-baked image analyst.

  • Clicked through but the keyboard isn't on the deal of the day page… you have to manually search for it on the site. Note that it's the TKL version so not a real bargain if you want the rest of the keyboard.

    • Its only missing the numbers pad if im not mistaken? dont think I have ever used it before in my life lol

BTW for people that dont know RED keys are best for gaming
