Come on Aussie dollar, lets rally back up near 1:1 currency exchange rate, then I will fly to US.

    • never then I will not get enough money for my cows and gold.

    • sorry thats not going to happen for a long time sadly :(

the only reason we got 1:1 was of GFC and US economy crapping up but they are coming back with vengeance now

Good luck with that. It's expected to drop to 60c

      • Any particular reason? It's good if your business is exporting.

    • Oh well, then it is no deal for US.
There are lots of other countries I would like to travel to.

  • In Hawaii now. Loving it!

    • Me too!
Paid $1300 each as we're on the way to Canada and that was the best we could get with a late booking. :,(
North shore and lap around the island has been cool though!

Hawaii has been hit by an outbreak of dengue fever, a mosquito-borne illness also known as "breakbone fever" because of the debilitating joint pain it causes.

At least 157 people on the island — known as the Big Island — have been diagnosed with dengue, which causes fever, a rash, intense headaches, severe muscle aches and serious joint pain, according to the Hawaii state health department.

It's Hawaii's largest outbreak of dengue in 60 years, said physician Harold Margolis, the dengue branch chief for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Americans should definitely be concerned about diseases such as dengue," said Amesh Adalja, a senior associate at the Center for Health Security at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dengue can be extremely painful, but it's rarely fatal. Although some people never develop symptoms, up to 15% of dengue patients can develop a serious complication, Margolis said.

Dengue doesn't spread from person to person like the flu. Mosquitoes pick up the virus when they bite infected people, then spread the disease when they bite someone new.

American Health officials have not cleared Hawaii as Dengue Fever free zone. Don't make it a cheap and painful holiday.

    • The Big Island is a long way away from Oahu (Honolulu/Waikiki) where most people going to Hawaii would travel.

I wouldn't be too concerned about that… there is plenty to do on Oahu as it is… and if you're feeling really adventurous, go to Maui or Kauai instead.

  • Im new to this, how do the dates work?

    Dep. 18/Jan/16 Ret. 06/Sep/16 for $582
    Dep. 30/Jan/16 Ret. 05/Feb/16 for $591
    Dep. 21/Jun/16 Ret. 06/Sep/16 for $593
    Dep. 17/Jan/16 Ret. 06/Sep/16 for $598

looks like only these dates are realistic: Dep. 30/Jan/16 Ret. 05/Feb/16 for $591

For the rest, it means we stay there for a couple of months?

    • Those are just sample dates, do a more thorough search (or search on Jetstar first) and there are plenty of cheap fares.

      • Thanks mate, I got it now.

  • Is accommodaton ridiculously expensive there?

    • Yes.

      • well you are converting at our crappy exchange rate in saying that you would best to safe money by doing airbnb

        • +1

be sure to pick airbnb venue's with high ratings, as over on the reddit hawaii board there are always stories of local's sub-letting their rented house/apartment etc on airbnb and the landlord finding out and kicking out the airbnb tenant (sometimes forcibly by Police)

        • @mattson:

woah thats not good to hear but agree with you to pick ones that have high reviews

  • Cheers OP, locked in a 10 day trip for May. Now to buy some USD..
