Is this the jailbreak able version that people is selling at higher price?

    • +3

No, poster is mistaken. This is the 1080p 3rd gen device, not worth as much.

So you'll revoke your neg vote now that the post have been corrected?

MD199X/A is the Apple TV 3rd Generation (No jailbreak available to run XBMC/Kodi currently).
One day, we will have the ability the run XBMC/Kodi on it!
I still have faith, only because I own one of these devices hehe :P

    MD199X/A is 3rd gen?

  • 44 dollars too much

how much is 2nd gen already jailbroken can be sold for? $400?

    • Not anymore, 2nd gen is worth a bit less these days now with the Apple TV 4 as new apps are able to solve some of the reasons for jailbreaking such as Plex and Kodi, and also if you want to build or compile apps from source code.

Apple TV 4 also has a much more powerful processor then 2nd gen.

Saw a recent ebay auction with the 2nd gen selling for $118, they used to sell for $260, and were even higher than $260 at one stage. There is even a BIN on ebay for 2nd gen for $129

  • Model MD199X/A is 3rd generation (1080p), not 2nd generation as claimed in the title. There's no way any retailer will still be selling the really old 2nd generation 720p Apple TV that ran out of stock years ago.

Apple TV 2 jailbreakable version has lost the race to new upcoming TVs like Amazon Fire TV, no JB needed and install watever you want or sideload

Yeah no idea why people would buy an ATV2 over an rPi2 or Nexus player right now, seems totally silly..

      • AirPlay…

        • +2

          kodi supports airplay

        • @pensionday: Cool, thanks.

        • +1

          @pensionday: Not well.

        • @coxymla: I've had no problems with RPi B+ & RPi2, and also Kodi on intel PC hardware. I guess as usual, YMMV. Perhaps the biggest limitation of any of these protocols (Airplay, Chromecast etc) is the number of apps etc that support it. e.g., NBA app (iphone or android) doesn't play with airplay, although it chromecasts fine.

@pensionday: Hmm, that's good news, maybe I should update my Kodi and try again.

        • @pensionday:

Not with the newest updates in iOS. It will simply just play the audio of a YouTube clip for, not the video part. A pity.

I agree. The idea in this day and age of even touching a video device that can't even handle 1080p seems ludicrous.

  • OP this is ATV 3. Please update the title.

  • +1

I got all excited when I saw that it was the 2nd gen. Reading the comments killed that excitement. :(

    • +2

OP is a newbie so an easy mistake is understandable since the 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TV look physically identical on the outside.

      • It clearly says MD199X/A on the page, it takes 2 seconds to copy that into a google search.

Just spend the xtra for ATV4 my ATV3 sits in the cupboard now, you can haggle and get the 4 for around $150 well worth it. Not only for plex etc but the fwd/rew function on the remote as well . I ended up paying $134 for an ATV4 16gb after haggling and paying with jb gift cards.
