[iOS] SMS Export (FREE from $6.99) [Backup Your Texts to Your Windows/Mac]

510

A good app to have if you prefer having records safe on a computer.

The actual app is a placeholder that lets you 'unlock' the export feature from a program you will need on the home computer: http://www.smsexport.com/download.asp

Just install the iOS app, download the desktop client, and you can export all your texts for peace of mind. Not the fanciest of apps but for free, worth having around for peace of mind.

From the developers:

SMS Export is the only WORKING solution available on the AppStore to copy SMS and iMessages from your iPhone/iPad to your PC or Mac, to be able to save and print them.

No need to configure TCP/IP or install on your computer "obscure" applications. On our website you can find all the easy-to-use software that you need.
Just download the free Desktop app from www.smsexport.com

Using the Complimentary Desktop App you can:
- Export the messages to an Excel File
- Export the messages to an HTML file
- Export the messages to CSV, TXT or EML.
- Select one or all contacts from your address book
- Sort the messages by date or number

Does anyone have a recommendation for an android app that performs similar tasks?
    Regards

  • Base on the user guide, I reckon the desktop App actually does the work.
It extracts the database from the backup file and then exports all the SMS from the database.

    • Correcto- if you check the desktop client download page, this app was needed to be purchased to unlock that feature. So in essence, 'unlocking' desktop app is what's really free today.

No need for the app, iTunes already does this

iTunes backs up but cannot read the actual texts without a phone loading the backup :)

  • grabbed, but also grabbed anytrans previously which was able to do same.

  • Are there any apps or software that allow sending texts to mobiles numbers on PC? Thanks

    • Yes, there are heaps.
However that's totally off-topic for this deal.
Do you realise that Google is your friend?

      • The problem with text communication (and spoken I guess) is that people tend to be brief and then others make the mistake of reading the messages literally. It's just as likely you could read that question as a request for recommendations that was poorly worded. I might be alone in this but I think this is a perfect situation to ask for such a recommendation as this is a thread that aficionados are contributing to so the recommendation is more valuable. Technically you are right it should be a separate forum post but most people here treat this site like a general conversation which is one of it's charms.

I have used the Optus REDCOAT service but only in a limited way to phones on the Optus network. I don't know if it works for other providers. I would look up your service providers website and try there or just use one of the many free web services.

If there is any app that imports text messages into phone then I'm in otherwise there are heaps of apps that can export text messages.

  • I wonder how good the support would be on this app/desktop client given the app only received its second update yesterday for the first time in 5 years!?
