Get ready to get dicked, people.

    • +3

Haha that's what I say when I walk into a club

  • +18

Why would they make USB 2 32GB the same price as USB 3 64GB
Its like they have given up

    • +13

Because it is run by D!ckH€@d$ ?

    • +52

Because there is only 1 available and it will be out in the backroom hidden by the staff member who opened the store that day

      • +2

Too true re the staff after recent events :/

      • really some people still care that much about usb sticks ?? yeah it's a nice deal but nothing i'd wake up early for. I can't imagine caring much more working in an electronics store.

    • The 32GB sticks have been $10 in my local store for a week or more, but the 64GB haven't.

    • -1

Because they are trying to get rid of any stock with their branding/logo on it to give them a better chance of selling the business (name change) before they go broke?

      • +2

Really wishing Dick Smith gets his brand back and restarts his hobbyist shops. It's amazing that with so much technology about, people are more ignorant of electronics than ever. Facebook and Tweeter is the face of computing and internet, geez.

        • Might be a good time to buy

  • lol

  • +5

    Uncertain about the quantity

    Fixed it for you OP

    • +4

      Make that quality and quantity

  • These non-dick-sticks seem similar:

    EMTEC 64GB USB 3.0 BULK (currently $29.45)

    EMTEC 32GB USB 2.0 BULK (currently $14.45)

    • Wrong brand

      • Tough crowd. Here's some actual dick-sticks

        • +1

Sorry didn't mean to come off that way. Thanks for the links :)

        • +3

@watty: Given the topic at ahem hand, I'd be careful of th way I came off.

  • what's the brand?

  • +1

    Good luck of getting it.

    • +2

      That's what she said.

      • +8

She said "Good luck of getting it"? English a fifth language for her or something?

  • +1

at those speeds it should just read USB 3.0 compatible

  • +9

WoW dont bother folks "Write speed up to 12MB/s"
    Taking the piss…

    • Living up to the brand name I guess.

      • +2

Even r2d2 is faster than this…

        • I bought one of these about 2 weeks ago for $19 - speed tested them and they're actually really fast. I don't recall actualy speed but it was upwards of 80mb/s. Actually appearance/quality isn't great looking though….

        • @highground:
          Thats read

        • +3

          @King Tightarse:

Okay I've pulled it out the cupboard….

          Read: 95MB/s
          Write: 105MB/s

          Tested with 1GB file.

So no, not just read. At $10 if I go near a DS I'll buy another couple…… and mine's a green one… perhaps the red one's go faster again! :-p

        • @highground:
          Are you certain?
A write speed higher than read?
Is yours is identical to the pictured green one?

        • +1

          @King Tightarse:

I'm as certain as can be mate. That's why I used 1GB, as manually timing transfer works too (in addition to speed readout).

Yes mine's the same - there was only green available (bought at DJ's). Build quality is okay just look junky because of the colour/branding.

        • +1

          @highground:
          Well, that's good information.
The data I saw was wrong but that's a good thing because 100MB/s+ writes are great for $10 I guess someone put a full stop in the wrong place.
64GB writing at 100MB/s+ is excellent for $10

        • @highground:

Speed results are conflicting with abm77's :S

        • @CVonC:
          Absolutely.
          Something strange is up.Two versions?
          Its a massive difference.

        • @King Tightarse: USB3 in a USB1 or USB2 port?

        • +1

          @muncan:
Well if he was testing it in a Windows 97 box…yes.
Need a few people to report speeds, there is conflicting data

  • thanks

  • Is that catalog online? ANything else good?

  • What's the chance there'll only be two per store?

  • Can I get a USB 2.0 64gb anywhere for cheaper?

  • +4

Wow I bought 5 of the Dick Smith 32gb USB 3.0 Flash Drive for $10.00 from David Jones Castle Hill Last week. Just $2 a pop. The prices are all over the place with tricky dicky.

    • +1

Which is why I doubt most stores will have any stock left.

    • Yesterday $20 at dick DJ indro. What he said.

    • Got 10 yesterday but only because they were in the wrong position.

    • Those were probably the ones in the old black packaging though?

    • +5

Why neg? Do you have a link to the $2 USB flash drives? If not, you should change your vote.

  • +3

Still waiting for a refund on my 4th Dec. purchase, store said it had stock, but ohhh no sorry etc, they printed a refund slip which clearly states to have your refund in 3 days, but did not tell me which month or year.
    Got Dicked by thieves.
Can't help wondering how much they rake in this way and the interest they earn whilst sitting on every bodies money.
    Merry Christmas all

    • +1

      Paid by card?
      Arrange a chargeback.

      • Have done that via PayPal - still will be 27th Dec. the earliest.
Apart from that a good time waster, that I can do without.

        • Raise a dispute thru paypal?

        • @SES:
Yes, waited 6 days for DS credit, not in the bank went to PP raised my dispute only spend 1o to 15 minutes on the phone, think it was that they give vendor 10 w/days if still not payed they will issue a refund and settle with DS later. Was a better option in the end after waiting for 1.5hrs (yes 1.5hrs) to DS and still no one answered. I have lost all patience with DS, so I jump up and down a lot quicker, my last encounter was 2 months for a refund, wtf
Whilst typing received an email, a refund has has been deposited to my account

        • @afterabargain: Awesome! I'm also currently waiting for a refund from DSE lol, PP was down at the time so paid directly from my CC.so yeah lets see how long that takes. Also, (In case you don't know), you don't need to call them - you can just raise a dispute online and yes they 10 days to the merchant to take action!
Also sorry for the neg, new here haha

      Devious dick strikes again.

  • +1

Dont need cant be bothered wasting time trying to get one.

  • Does anyone have a link to the whole catalogue?

  • hmm.. need 256gb drive for nintendo with only one working USB port otherwise I'd do it - would this be useful for anyone, RAID ? https://fstoppers.com/product/convert-unused-usb-thumb-drive…

  • Great price for a big disk

  • Boycott pending formal apology for misleading the public.

  • +2

I wonder if people like me actually make any difference refusing to shop at this place again. Dicksmith might be a dead retailer if it does.

  • FYI my wife went to erina store. She had to specifically ask for them and the sales guy reluctantly got some from behind the counter, we got 3 of them.

Got similar strange response when I harrased them about the 70d camera deal.

  • I paid $20 last week.
    I'm going back.
    But they are pretty slow.
Can anyone recommend free software to test.
    PLEASE HELP ASAP.
    Thanks.

  • Fyi, 2 left in DJ Queens Plaza Brisbane after I got 1, on the table of register

  • +3

Got one from Adelaide store - there's about 20 of the 64GB dick-sticks behind the counter. http://i.imgur.com/xE64LIC.jpg

    • Did you get it for $10 or the normal price, as the sale only starts on Christmas Eve?

      • +1

They were happy to sell one to me for $10 ahead of the sale.

  • Go Dick Smith Castle Hill. Will only take you 3 hours to get out of the parking lot.

    • +1

that's if you can even find a spot in the first place!

Available now at Dick Smith Adelaide Gawler Place

    • not on their website, and I'm too far away from a store right now :(

Oh well, good luck everyone else :)

    • anyone tried stores in VIC? only shows at scan?

      • Glen Waverley $20 when scanned

        • :( Oh thx. I will wait till 4pm tmr then~

  • Victoria Gardens burnley has some stock. But the counter person said the 64gb was $20..

    • Same for Indooroopilly Shopping Centre store, stock behind the counter but still $20.

  • Go to Adelaide Gawler Place store and just ask. They have them behind the counter.

  • $20 at Parramatta westfield. Have to ask counter

  • Well done to those who were able to already/convince any stores to sell the 64GB for $10 (I'm envious) but both Sydney CBD Westfield & George st. stores scanned at $20 & wouldn't sell to me for $10 & suggesting the catalogue image could be a pricing error as 32GB scans for $10 which sounds somewhat/more plausible/logical even if/though I wish otherwise. Wonder if/hope it'll be marked down tomorrow but not holding my breath.

    • Even at $20 it's very fast for the price (so long as you don't mind the colour … and the "dick logo" on it…). RRP is $60ish

  • Any h2testw test results?

    • An own-brand product from a major retailer is not going to end up with faked capacity.

    • See my post down the page for a similar test…

  • My local store had them but they were priced at $20.98 - everything else was $10.98.
    NO DEAL!

  • Went into the DSE Malvern. Showed the manager the $10 receipt for the 64GB 3.0 USB. He wasn't interested. Pretty much said I'm the manager and I won't price match. Disappointed to be honest that he couldn't price match it.

  • +1

Got it at Adelaide Rundle Mall. Cashier, at first, said that currently they have it only for 20$ and action will start Saturday. I walked a bit around the store looking for other bargains for a couple of minutes he meanwhile asked manager and come to me and offered to buy it now for 10$
Speed test is unimpressive to say the least.
    Write 11 Mb/s
    Read 24Mb/s

And drive got really hot after writing just 3Gb.

    • +1

Did it look exactly like the green one in the picture?

    • Well its only $10……What do you expect

    • That's really low/poor speed/performance. I wonder if it is maybe not USB version 3.0?

      • +1

It is marked USB 3.0, but speed is more like an average USB 2.0 noname stick.
And Yes I tested it with the right USB 3.0 port. I've got other stick 16Gb USB 3.0 from woolys and it gives me 25 MB/s writing speed.
And btw actual size is 58 GB

        • @King Tightarse: Indeed. Chalk & cheese.

          @King Tightarse:
          Different stick IMHO

        • @abm77: Sydney CBD David Jones in Market St. (powered by Dick Smith :-) also scanned at $20 the item number is "Cat: XM1534" but I did not buy/try it. They had 1/2 a dozen left on shelf.

        • +3

          @abm77:

Definitely different stick or guts of stick ….

At Tightarse's kind request (and to prove I'm not full of it…!) I've uploaded a pic and also used the same CrystalMark 5.1.0 x64 (also on Win 10). Would love to show you the packet but that got binned a week or so back - however I've given my father one for Xmas (shhhhh!) so I'll try to get a picture of it when it's unwrapped. FYI I'm not a King Tightarse … he got more than just that ;-)

And again, I bought mine from DJ's in Brisbane. Was $19 or $20 a week or so ago (day after the Emtec deal published). I also bought some of the Emtec 8GB 3 packs, but they are much much slower.

EDIT: After comparing the image of @abm77 , ONLY BUY THE DRIVES WITH A LARGE (20mmx13mm) CHIP DIRECTLY UNDER THE "64" CASE MARKING. CHIP IS SAME BACK AND FRONT
