With an Ethernet connection, this low cost modem router supports not only NAT, but also PPPoE/PPPoA relay. This feature (also called PPPoE to PPPoA Bridging or PPPoE to PPPoA Transparent Pass Through) allows LAN devices to use PPPoE protocol to access an ISP who uses PPPoA protocol. This means that this modem router is more universally useable than modems that only offer PPPoE accesses.

• ADSL, ADSL2 & ADSL2+ Ethernet Modem.
• Bridge (pass) a single IP address or a whole public subnet.
• Ideal Partner for DrayTek dual-WAN products.
• Ethernet Connection for client device (router, PC etc.).
• Normally no setup/configuration of the Vigor 120 required.
• Annex A and Annex M.
• Note: The Vigor 120 supercedes the Vigor 100/110.

  • May want to indicate if this is the delivered price or show that postage starts from.

Had this modem for 4 years and love it. Great for linking with any Airport which will do the PPPoE connection.

    • Yeah, well I've had my 56.6K modem for 18 years and it hasn't slowed down one bit since I got it!

  • I take it this would be useful if you have adsl and want to use a router without an adsl port? e.g. connect your adsl to this and then connect this to your router via the ethernet/wan port?

That's exactly what this is for.

It's a very niche product — only sought by networking geeks who've invested heavily into a high end router and want a dedicated ADSL modem.

Though low-end ADSL modem routers (with no wireless features) can be bought for around $25~30. I'm pretty certain most modem routers also support PPPoA as well. Compared to the cheaper stuff this is probably more reliable in the long run but it does cost a bit more.

      • Even for 20 you would struggle selling any of these. Niche or just not useful?

I guess it is also if you want to put custom firmware on your router? Although I have only researched a few firmwares and compatible models, as far as I can tell custom firmware (dd-wrt, Gargoyle, etc.) doesn't support ADSL.

Yes, that is one reason. dd-wrt, gargoyle, tomato etcetera is router firmware and does not support the modem part.
