  • Wonder if it has a Tex T25 socket?

    Looks like it might.

Would I be screwed without it?

  • How much normally? Can't be that great a set at that price surely

    • +2

its not a great set but its 70 pieces for $9.99 dont mind the quality, look at the quantity

also, predicting sold out by 9.05am

      • Yeah absolute crap quality I'd say, so best to focus on the quantity.

But for this price, good to have some spare tools lying around. My family always go into my toolbox when they need screwdrivers.

        • +9

yep the tips will be made of authentic Chinese cheese steel

prepare to round some screw heads no doubt… saying that, its not like a big deal if you lose a few bits and you can keep your good tools to yourself.

@tonyjzx: might make a nice shiv/shank pressy for those locked up in prison this Christmas!

@ozy: are you volunteering to be the mule?

      • 9:05am? Someone is being optimistic today :-)

    Made of Cheese….

    • no doubt, the question is Camembert or Parmesan?

    Anyone know when it starts?

This was on special for that price at Repco Taylors Beach NSW yesterday. So I think you'll find it is already on special.

I looked at it and thought "Wow that is cheap" and it looked pretty damn good for less than $10 - but I already have about 4 screwdriver kits of a similar ilk I have never used (and paid twice the price for) so I left it on the shelf.

  • +2

Any one saw that $15 similar set in Aldi? How is that compared to this?

    • Just need to check if they are chrome vanadium steel and preferably not chrome plated tips / blades

  • +4

For all the doubters, I have this set. Bought on special about 6 months ago for around $25 reduced from $50 ish….really cant remember now

It isn't the best but it also isn't the worst. The tips have stood up well so far and despite fairly heavy use are holding up well.

    Crappy case, nothing fits well

    • +3

I dont really care how they fit into the case.. as long as the heads fit the screws im sold.

    • +2

on top of that they have a 1 year warranty. Reckon that shows where it fits compared with other sets.

Made of chrome vanadium, whilst I know that doesn't mean too much by itself…generally it indicates a fair shelf life for the average user.

As for people stating they are shit…have you actually used these or are you judging due to price….or just putting down anything below snapon quality?

      • +2

"Shelf life" would be the same as titanium :P

I agree with all same points most/all are saying… for this price, I can't see a negative. I'd grab one for sure, if I didn't already have similar upstairs, downstairs, garage, shed, car etc.

Plus all the doubles/triples of orphaned tools in the workshop.

        Horses for courses.

      • Snap on isn't that good either compared to some other brands e.g certified for use in some ares of the aerospace / aviation industry. They are made to looser tolerances than brands such as Stahlwille.

  • You get what you pay for. This is really cheap shit I wouldn't buy ever again.

Can I ask why? I've got a Stanley set and a cheap set I've had for years and honestly I use it more, the rubber handles are much easier to use and the hex bits are great for Ikea furniture.

The Stanley ones have those clear handles which are hard to get a good grip on.

Admittedly the precision screwdrivers in the cheap set are rubbish, they've all broken/lose the tips but the screwdrivers and bits are good.

      • +1

Some screwdrivers have chrome plated tips, makes them look pretty but chrome is slippery so doesn't grab screw heads as well. Other than that chrome vanadium makes the steel stronger. Unlike KFC there is no secret ingredients to making good tools.

      • +2

My Stanley ones are much stronger and better quality than these, the tips are not good at unscrewing tight screws also.

        • Thanks, maybe they don't make cheap sets like they used to!

    • +5

have you actually used these tools or just being a gear snob?

Just went and picked up one from the Phillip store in Canberra. The guy told me they have about 15 at the mitchell store, and another 5 or so at the phillip store.

I got this set when SCA had it on special last year. It's not THAT bad. For $10 it's a steal. I've used mine quite a bit ad it hasn't destroyed anything yet :)

    • -2

      For $10 it's a steal

      I prefer stealing it tbh

      • +2

Here on OzBargain, we do NOT condone illegal behaviour of sorts.

    • SCA?? I thought mechpro is repco brand. Toolpro is SCA.

      • Mine is identical to the one in the repco pic. They must be made at the same factory in Chinaland.

  • Do they have magnetic tips on the end of the screw drivers by any chance?

    • There's no special tip on magnetised screw drivers, usually the steel shaft itself is magnetised. If not, you can just do it yourself by swiping them against a strong magnet.

Sold out in Bankstown. The guy advised me they were sold out across the board.

  • Sold out across SA as well apparently (just called Adelaide store then)

  • Price back up to $20 now & very limited stock.
