LG FHD 49" Smart TV 49LF5900 $699 @ Dick Smith

810

Hi guys, first time poster. I was in dick smith yesterday and the manager told me that this TV (which is currently on sale for 899 down from $1299ish) will be $699 online from 4pm today (24/12/15) and on Boxing Day Instore (26/12/15).

Great saving!

Discounted Gift Cards

Apply the 18.2% off with the Big W and DSE at Woolworths and it brings it down to ~$572.
- step 1: Buy Big W cards for 10% off and then buy Woolworths cards with these
- step 2: Buy DSE cards at Woolworths (which are 9.1% off at the moment ) with the gift cards.
- gives you 18.2%

Note: See comments this method is not guaranteed to work, proceed at your own risk.

I saw at least 20 boxes at the Marion store in Adelaide. Confirmed with manager that this is Australia wide.

I assume this is a great deal, personally I'm intestate and can't take advantage of it 😞

This is part of Boxing Day Sales for 2015

  • Is this 3860 (4k) for TRUE UHD 4k? (4096)

    Says FHD not UHD

  • +1

Apply the 18.8% off with the bigW and DSE at Woolworths and it brings it down to $566.19

How is this? Can some one explain?

    • Yeah how??

      • See comments above. I did it for an iPhone yesterday.

    • That's if you get away with buying gift cards with gift cards which is not really aallowed.

      • Oh really? I must have been lucky. Never had an issue yet and I have tried at least 5 different stores around Australia. Worth a try anyway!

        • Been discussed in big W gift cards deal.

        • So I buy Big W cards online (eGift cards), go to WW store and exchange them for Physical cards and then buy DSE cards online?

        • @danger163: no you will probably find you won't be allowed to do that. Been discussed before in e gift card deals.

  • This dosent seem like a UHD but a FHD TV refer to link http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/tv-and-audio/televisions/led-l…

    However still a great price

    • Sorry. I have updated it

  • 50 hertz fhd not even 100/hertz

    • +1

For the price it is still a great TV

    • What the advantage of 100 compared to 50? I did some light research and most say u won't notice anything different except for 3d content. Please correct me if I'm wrong

      • 50Hz screens suffer from motion blur.

Whether or not your eyes see it is the question. I certainly do, and need 100Hz minimum - especially for video games.

Not everyone is picky though so this screen could be fine for you.

        • Thanks for the input brad. Also read that most modern panels have some sort of technology to reduce motion blur so refresh rate isn't the only factor any more. Gotta read more arghhh

        • +1

Yeah, they do - doesn't work as well as a native 100Hz screen though.

        • +1

I don't think you're going to be able to find 100Hz content easily.

All of your movies, tv will be at 60Hz or less, current gen consoles won't be higher than 60 (probably lower), so all you have left realistically is PC Gaming, but if you're playing games @ 100 FPS wouldn't you prefer a g-sync/freesync monitor?

        • @BradH13:
The 100Hz is irrelevant, for other than games, since (almost?) no content is 100Hz unless the TV has good motion interpolation (read: guesses what has moved and where it could be) for the extra frames. I found Samsung and Sony both only rarely worked well for sports, which is where you mostly want it since movies are 24p and look extremely weird with 100Hz (read: soap opera effect). I now have the top model Sony 60", I leave motion interpolation (100Hz) off always, and I mostly watch sports. YMMV

        • Some 100hz TV's also have motion blur.
Its due to the LCD screen refresh rate anything at or under 5ms is not going to give you motion blur that the human eye can pickup.

        • +1

Console games usually run at 30fps and never more than 60.

THis also isn't real 120/144hz you get on 24~31 inch gaming monitors.

          Stop spreading misinformation.

  • How does it compare with lg 49lf6300 $716 last month

  • The Link says FHD for this model

Is this a 4K TV or FHD , every other detail OP has mentioned matches

  • Apologies!

Is the gift card to buy gift card method guarantee to work?

  • +4

Could be stuck with gift cards you dont want as cant change for ones you want or when you do get your dse one no tvs or deal not on in your state.
Would not want to be stuck with dse gift cards.

    • Yeah agree, especially with Dickie cancelling pretty much every order I've made with them the past few months.

Make sure you check out the PVR function before buying this. I have the 43LF5500 and it sucks. Single tuner so you can only record what you watch, and if you want to record TV onto a hard drive it reformats the drive so wipes everything you have saved on it already. Additionally, you can't record onto a USB stick. It has to be a hard drive. Hopefully this model is different!

    • +1

Yep, bought an LG TV for relatives last Christmas and the PVR function definitely sucks. Won't record to any USB, regardless of capacity. TV guide is strange too, only seems to load the guide for the channel that is currently in use. No issues with TV itself though.

I bought a couple of $44.90 Amaysim vouchers when they were on sale, and would like to apply gem towards a 10gb data pack. Is this possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    • +1

nothing to do with this deal, go away

    • -2

Yes it is. But it will cost you 5000 in unmarked bills placed at my nominated location.

  • Naked position what are you on about ,not be able to find 100 hertz content. It is the refresh rate of the tv to put it simple 100 hertz is 100 frames per second, the quicker the refresh rate less lag.

I remember there were alot of ~50" LG FHD TV's going for about $500 at some point last year.

    • Our Aussie $$ was worth more back then too.

  • Can you redeem multiple gift cards online? I can see an option to add a gift card but it's not clear whether you can add several.

  • Has the price changed for anyone yet?

  • Anyone know what the display lag is on these?

  • Doesn't look like $699 to me, proof?

    • 699 @ DJ's as per post above by admoghal

  • Cheers mate, thanks

  • Price is up on the website at $699

    • 899 in my cart

  • first time poster

This is actually your second. :)

    Thanks for posting.

  • Hi Guys,

What do you suggest should I buy 6 x 100 and 1x 50 gift cards at woolies that will bring it to $ 710 and pay or should I be skeptical giving reputation of Dick Smith cancelling orders.

TV seems to be a good one and upto my likings and we'll within budget.

    Please guide

  • If you buy the Big W gift cards at 10% off, can you use them at DSE in store or online?

  • I think at both.. The website does have a link of payment page, gift card option there

  • Merry Christmas Mates,

If any one can confirm that the deal will be available in store tomorrow!?

50hz refresh rates are just the concerns which are holding me from pulling the trigger (credit card from my wallet)

    Thanks in advance

    • +1

I spoke to two seperate managers in two seperate stores and they both confirmed it will be Instore. Victor harbour had 5 in stock. Marion had at least 20. They said it was Aus wide

    • +1

I set this TV up with the $699 promo and there were A0 sized poster sent out to each store. It's definitely on in-store. It's also on the front page of the Boxing Day catalogue.

      • Hey mate,

If you can also lemme know if I were to buy multiple gift cards for woolies and make payment via 6 or 7 different gift cards would it be accepted in store?!

It am planning it to buy it as a birthday gift for my sister who is working at woolworths, may be after she sees the TV she can put in 5% employee discount as well there.

        Thanks for guidance

        • +1

There's no limit to how many gift cards you can use if you go in store. I have no idea about the website. I avoid it like the plague. If

you plan to use her Woolies discount she really should come with you. Some managers care about the non-named person using someone else's Staff card as it is against the T&Cs. Personally I don't care but YMMV.

  • Is anyone else having issues with ordering this TV on DSE website?

When I go to checkout, put the credit card info and click purchase, the error message keeps on saying that I've missed out the Shipping Address but there is no section for shipping details! So I've created an account and updated my billing & shipping information but still not proceeding to order?!? Very annoying as I've been trying this since last night and might miss out on the deal :(

    Thanks

    • Same issue for me too

  • Cash Rewards 6% David Jones = $41.94 on this price.
    Also free delivery.

  • Bought it from Melbourne CBD store… Gift cards worked like charm.. Was content with 10% from gift cards from woolies bought from Flinders St.

It is wonderful value for money, thanks everyone and Setstrooper for posting.

    • Ditto - paid $639.

      Thanks again OP!

  • Anyone know if this supports the Plex app?

  • DJs saying no stock. Was looking to get via QF Estore at 5 points per $.

  • Bloody DSE site. Wants to charge $39.95 shipping after quoting $9.95.

  • I was just about to post this deal but see someone beat me to it!

Saw the TV, $699, in their George St store, Sydney.

  • Would hardly normal price match as AMEX has an offer on HN?

  • Hi,
I have ordered this TV online on xmas day.
However, havent heard anything about the delivery. I have called DS but seems they dont know about the delivery.
Can,I ask does someone here and order online and receive the TV ?
I am worry that they lost my order and currently they are out of stock.
    thank you.

  • Purchased mine via DJ's.
Rang them yesterday asking for a contact point at DS to find out where order is at. Said would get back to me.
