$20 Bonus to Signup ING Orange Everyday, on Top of The $60 for Each Account

550

ING direct and Money Magazine is offering an exclusive $20 bonus for signing up to the Orange Everyday Transaction Account (will get shortly after March 31). This is in addition to the up to $60 bonus for EACH ACCOUNT (up to 2 accounts per person for a total of $120) if you do some simple transactions.
To get bonus, just do:
-direct debit
-deposit salary (think can be anything)
-first time using the card
No fees, no monthly deposit requirements, withdraw at any ATM for free if you take out over $200, and many more features. BONUS payments until 15 May 2010.
See this previous deal which outlined this offer, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/16906
but this time, you get an extra $20 just for following this link – so for all those that didn’t bit the cherry last time, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better everyday transaction account.
The $20 bonus payment payable on the opening of the Orange Everyday is limited to one account per customer (including joint accounts).
I personally signed up for this last time they had the offer, and can’t be happier with ING.
The $20 once off payment is only valid between March 1 and March 31, 2010 and when you sign up using the link.

  • Also, using EFTPOS cash out over $200, they will credit $0.50 to your account. No seriously :)

  • Do I need to have my salary deposited to ING FIRST BEFORE I could get the other 2 $20 bonus on direct debit and VISA Debit charging?

    • Theres not necessarily an order, but you will need to have money in the account to satisfy the other 2 right? =P
I just deposited some random amount into my account once my account was set up and received the bonus for the "salary deposit".
For the direct debit, I just did a Ubank ASP automatic transfer.
For first time using the card, just bought something at the shops using the card from each account

  • Is this no fees for the life of the account?

    • +1

That is correct. I've been using this account since the beginning and there is no trick. You do pay $2 to use ATMS if you withdraw less than $200. Cash out through eftpos is free though. The burger deal has 240 votes. This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer is disappointed to find $5 under his lounge instead of a peanut. Then his brain says $5 can buy lots of peanuts. $80 can buy more than a couple of burgers. Great deal!!!!!

      • If there was a 'like' button… I'd like this.

        • lol well said yargnairod.
@Bensoin, theres a little plus and negative icon on the top right of each comment, where you may like or dislike a comment

Just tested it and it works!
I already had opened an Orange Everyday account previously (and claimed my 3 x $20).
I clicked on the link in this deal and entered my details the same as my previous account.
Then I logged into my existing ING online banking, clicked on "My Applications" and just applied for ANOTHER Orange Everyday account right there.
It was set up immediately and after I transferred just $1 from my old account to this new one it gave me $20 for free!
I assume the other 2 x $20 bonuses will also work and I'll wait to see if this deal's $20 appears over time.
Also, another thing you can do to get the "direct debit" bonus is just to link your ING account to PayPal and just make any purchase using PayPal (specifying the ING account as a source of funds of course).

    Thanks for the deal Kaizer!

    • Yeah, I think ING allows up to 2 personal Orange Everyday account per person. So if you had only applied one the other time, then you'd be able to apply for another one now.

  • It would be a good deal for me (and I guess most Ozbargainers in general) if I didn't already have 2 accounts :) Good find though!

  • Great thanks

  • Cheers to the OP for posting this, been thinking about having a spare card kicking around and this makes it worth my while.

  • nice, just registered :)

  • Hmm, interesting. Thanks for posting. I read the T&C and noted some drawbacks though.

No interest paid. So if you have $1500, you'd get the about the same amount as Orange's bonuses as interest from a normal savings account in one year.

No electronic transfer from other banks, seems only ING accounts can be the source. So any money that goes into this account would have to be deposited by salary, check, or cash, or from transferred from another ING account.

It probably means it's more effective if you operate it together with other types of ING accounts.

Also noted: $2.50 per international ATM withdrawal which is not too bad, and 2.5% on international purchases which is a little high compared to say the Wizard Advantage card. Then again it's a debit card so you are not spending money you don't have.

    • "No electronic transfer from other banks, seems only ING accounts can be the source. So any money that goes into this account would have to be deposited by salary, check, or cash, or from transferred from another ING account."

Hi, sorry could you please point me to which page in the T&C(sorry its kinda long) that refers to this. I have just signed up for an account and if what you say is true, this is a major let down :( .

Don't get me wrong the deal is still good in regards to free money, however as a "bank" account then boooooo. Will probably close it then….once the bonuses pan out…

    • "No electronic transfer from other banks, seems only ING accounts can be the source. So any money that goes into this account would have to be deposited by salary, check, or cash, or from transferred from another ING account."

I'm not sure where you got that from but it works like any other bank account. I can't imagine any bank would say, "Woh, incoming deposit form other bank. Reject, reject, reject!"

It's a great account, especially when linked with ten savings subaccounts = a perfect budgeting tool.

Work out all your expenses, divide them up into ten categories and when your salary goes in, get it to automatically transfer amounts to those ten subaccounts a couple of days later. Bingo bango, you'll always have money when those "unexpected" big bills come in - rego, rates, etc.

The same can be done with Suncorp and their ten subaccounts. Suncorp has a slightly better user interface, IMO, but costs $5 a month (currently free for 12 months if you sign up online I think). The onlly benefit of a Suncorp account is branch access, which I hardly ever use and Suncorp ATMs in Qld, but with cash out at every Woolies, Coles and most petrol stations, it's not as big a deal as it used to be.

      My suggested subaccounts for budgeting are;
Emergencey (build up to $1000 - check out a Dave Ramsey book for details)
      Mortgage
      Investments, Donations, Travel
      Health Insurance, Dentist
      House Contents Insurance, Electricity
      Car Insurance Registration Maintenance
      Phone Internet Mobiles Newspapers
      Birthdays Christmas Presents
      Music Lesson, Uniforms, Textbooks

Something like that. In our household it has saved much stress and after transferring money to those accounts you know exactly how much is left for the next fortnight for groceries, petrol and the like.

This is a transaction account, not a savings account - can you tell me of any other transaction accounts that offer decent amount of interest with no monthly fees or deposit requirements? ING offer a savings maximiser account for that purpose that you can instantly transfer to and from the Orange Everyday account.

In regards to no electronic transfer from other banks, this is completely false. I have received Netbank payments from friends who use CBA banking, as well as my initial deposit being from another institution.
You just need the BSB number and Account Number

      This was in the T&C:
      1. To make your initial deposit do any one of the following
      • complete a direct deposit (of any amount) from an
external bank account to your new Orange Everyday
using the ING DIRECT BSB (923-100) and your new
Orange Everyday Account Number provided (not your
      Client Number or Visa Debit Card number);

After your Orange Everyday is activated, you can make deposits by:
      • transferring money from any of your other eligible ING DIRECT
accounts, such as a Savings Maximiser, where your Orange
Everyday is the linked bank account, using an Interactive
Service (see “Making deposits using the Interactive
      Service” on page 17);
      • arranging a direct deposit, e.g. salary payments. To do this you
need to provide the ING DIRECT BSB (923-100) and your Orange Everyday Account Number shown on your statement of account
(not your Client Number or your Visa Debit Card number), with
any other required information to the depositor or f nancial
      institution making the deposit;
      • cheque sent to ING DIRECT (see “Making deposits by
      cheque” below); and
      • cash/cheque at Australia Post’s Bank@Post
(see “Making deposits at Bank@Post” below). PAGE 9 of the T/C PDF

      • Ok, I take that back. I didn't see electronic fund transfers listed under Deposits, but perhaps they are listed under Transfers, not Deposits.

I'm not saying it's a bad deal, just that you may get better value combining it with other ING accounts, as you suggest. Also look past the initial bonuses to future years when there will be no bonus and a normal savings account, IMG or other, will pay you the same amount in interest. Of course you could quit early. ING is hoping you don't of course, because you have arranged to have your salary paid into it and started using their debit card.

Since you have clarified transfers I may yet take up the offer to use it as a small account to back up an eBay account and as an emergency account for overseas use, so I'm not ungrateful for your posting. I'm just wondering how they know it's a salary deposit, or would any sort of deposit work, in which case I'll just write a cheque to myself from another account. :)

  • opened 2 accounts. got my initial $40.00.

    Thanks for the deal.

  • So cash out at coles qualifies you for the "purchase" step?
From reading the other thread this can be done once under "chq" and once under "savings" to purchase from the two accounts.

$140 of value to be had here :-) If both yourself and your partner do it it's $280 :-)

    • That's exactly right. If you open two personal account, they will ask if you'd like to make the second account your "chq" account so you won't have two cards.

You'll get $20x3 by 1)an eftpos transaction, 2)a direct debit (which some did it by setting up ASP with their Ubank account) and 3)a deposit (used to work as long as you transfer money into the account, does not have to be salary). Repeat these steps for your "chq" account and voila, another $20x3.

  • how do you open 2 accounts, when in the linked page it said limited to 1 per customer?

    • The $20 bonus on opening a new account is limited to 1 per customer but the other bonuses $20+$20+$20 are limited 2 per customer

  • Also good to know you can use any ATM without charge if the withdrawal is $200+. From their FAQ:

Does ING DIRECT have ATMs or ATM Fees?

No, we don't have any ATMs. Not having branches or ATMs saves us money, that's why we don't charge you fees for using any of the 26,000 ATMs in Australia.

ATM owners, however, will charge you. So, each time you withdraw $200 or more from any ATM in Australia (which helps us) we'll instantly reimburse you the ATM owner fee.

Just get in the habit of withdrawing $200 or more, and no more ATM fees for you.

  • So you only get the BONUS $20 for one account made?
Total possible obtainable is $140? and not $160?

I can confirm that you will get $120 if you open two accounts, I did this last time and got the money within 3days after setting up ASPs with Ubank. These accounts currently have $0 sitting in them. lol

    • yep total possible obtainable is $120

      • $120 ? Dont you mean $140.?

Since : "……The $20 bonus payment payable on the opening of the Orange Everyday is limited to one account per customer (including joint accounts)…."

        • roger that :-p

  • So it does accept efts from other banks, thanks for the clear up fellas :) I have another question in regards to the $20 bonus for salary deposits, how will they identify a payment made to your account is your salary? If I just transfer funds from my external accounts to this account with a ref "salary" will that count? Currently I am not employed and get my "salary" from ebay lol.

    • +1

You can get $20 by doing:
      1. Transfer money from one bank account to ING. Doesnt need to be 'salary'
      2. Use the VISA debt card they give you to make a purchace. Remember to press "CR" on the machine.
      3. Setup a direct deposit from a health fund, or conversely use UBANK and setup a ASP to take out money, as their ASP uses direct deposit features.

      Tooooo EASY!

      • Thanks for the clarification :)

      • Hei Trud

        how about this?

        1. Use Paypal to transfer money
        2. same as you (use visa debit and
        3. Use Paypal to takout the money (e.g. buy something)
          1. Should work.
          2. Yep also works.
          3. Wouldnt count as Direct debit so wont work. Since paypal AFAIK doesnt use direct debit.
    • Edit: Oops, poster above me was quicker.

  • How long will you need to wait between online application + post office identification verification and the actual availability of the online account for transaction and bonus deposit?

    • you register your details within the promotional period to get the $20 bonus using the link.
The $60 bonus lasts until middle of May, so you have plenty of time for those.

It took about 2 or 3 working days after i visted the post office, to receiving a call from ING to confirm to account set up

      • It was super-fast for me. I went to the post office in the afternoon yesterday (Friday) and got an email this morning saying it was activated. <.> No call, though.

  • it says, eligible for the $20 bonus exclusively available to "money magazine readers"

so for those who dont order the magazine cant get the offer..

    • like we obey those rules around here….

  • So does this account not get interest??

Also… I just signed up and went to post office to do the verification… people are saying we can make 2 accounts… do I just do the sign up process again and go to the post office again?

    thx

    :)

    • you only need to verify once. It was a long time since i signed up, but if i recall, once you set up the first, you have the option to set up the second, where you can use the second account using the cheque option at the terminals.

Again, this is a transaction account. Traditional transaction accounts do not offer any sort of competitive interest rates, or if they do, they come with loads of catches and gimmicks. As I said before, you can always create a free ING savings maximiser once this transaction acct is set up and you can do instant transfers between the two. ING savings atm is about 5.25% i think for new customers.

As Zeraph already attested to earlier in the post:
Then I logged into my existing ING online banking, clicked on “My Applications” and just applied for ANOTHER Orange Everyday account right there.
It was set up immediately and after I transferred just $1 from my old account to this new one it gave me $20 for free!

      • man… ING should really employ me for the amount of helpdesk ive done on behalf of them =P
  • i;m still not clear about how to open second account
i have just registered and applied for everyday account online, and need to verify account with form in post office.
so whats the second account?? how do we(people opening new a account) set up a second accout??(to get the second lot of 20+20+20)

    THANK YOU

    • yea how does the 2nd account work?

    • +1

      1) After you've registered the first account, go to the post office and verify it. They'll take about 2-3 days to activate your account.
      2) Once it's activated, you'll get an email stating your client/acc number. With your acc number, you'll be able to set up direct debit and do an external transfer to get the first two $20.
      3) To set up the second account, login to online banking using your client number and PIN. Click on "My Applications" and follow the prompts. It will be instant, and they'll ask if you want a separate card or have the second account as your "CHQ" account.
      4) Meanwhile, wait for your card to arrive to get the remaining $20.

      • so second account application only available after activation of initial account? or can it be done soon after just online registration(coz i can log into the online banking thing, but no balance or anything shown)?
thanks for the clarification, now i have a much better idea of how it works

        • +1

I'm not sure how that'd work but why not just wait until your ID verification is complete and the first account is fully activated (about 2-3 days).

It makes no difference anyway because even if you apply both now, both accounts will be pending until ING receives your ID verification. But once they receive it, they'll activate your first account and you can apply for the second account which gets fully activated immediately (because you only need to do the ID verification thing once).

Plus, no hurry since you've gotten the first $20 when you registered and the rest of the bonuses will be paid out till May.

  • So, even though the other deal mentioned is marked as expired, it is still valid? I'm a little vague at the moment…can someone explain briefly how you could get the $20 + the $60 for each new account? Thanks.

    • +1

Scroll up a little, you'll see Turd's comment on how to get the $60. The other $20 is just merely by signing up.

  • Ok, I'm convinced. Choice did a review on this product and what you see is what you get. I can use one or two of this product. Thumbs up from me.

    http://www.choice.com.au/Reviews-and-Tests/Money/Banking/Sav…

  • \Well i've got my first $40 for the initial direct deposit. Now onto step two today for my second $40.

  • Have signed up will let people know of how I get on ASAP.

  • When I opened 2nd account, by mistake I combine it with 1 visa card. How do i get $20*2 for an eftpos transaction? Any help appreciated.

    • +1

You did the right thing to combine them, it's better than holding two different cards. When you do an eftpos transaction, selecting "SAV" will mean the fund is coming out of the first account. If you select "CHQ", the fund will come out of the second account.

      • Thanks it makes sense.

        • Hmm, I got to page that said "You currently have no accounts that can be linked to your new Orange Everyday at this time."
My first account already activated - got the deposit transfer done and received $20 transfer bonus.

          • @timhn: Uhm, to apply for the second account you'll need to click on "My Application" and follow the steps to apply and it will have an option to allow you to use one card for both the accounts.

You may have clicked on a different link - one which allows you to link your OE with a savings account.

  • Just curious, how much we need to do a direct deposit to get the $20?

  • Back again….first thing which is not mentioned is that the post office charged me $3.95 for identity verification……:(

    • wtf, you got scammed by the post office. Last time i checked its free. Did you print out the form, or they printed it for you? If you printed from home and brang it in, its free

      • Well i have a receipt and she told me it came into effect a few weeks ago……

        • Hmmm interesting, this is the first Ive heard of them charging for it. It was definately free when I did mines < year ago. Can anyone else comfirm this please?

          • @Munificent: Yup, I did it around the end of last year and it was free. But maybe they've implemented a fee recently?

            • @ohsnap: I did it at Syd MLC centre post office TODAY and it was free….

              • +2

@pmmehta22: Yea my mum did it today at her local PO and it was free..

She actually asked the PO lady where her $20 money was. lol
Must have been mistaken communication between her and I.

                • @Turd: Any chance this was a post office "agency".. there are plenty of post office agents who don't actually work for the post office, wouldn't suprise me if they are charging.

3.95 seems a strange amount too - wtf not $4? No need for the *.95 pricing

                  • @muzzamo: What the, I did it yesterday and there was no fee. I got a receipt for $0.00 saying it was done. XD Where was this..? Was the post office not enabled for bank@post or something..?

    • The person you served you was confused, or trying to rip you off.

There is a $3.95 charge for certifying documents (similiar to a JP) however this ING verification is technically a BANK@POST transaction, so it should be free.

  • I did mine today they signed it and they charged me .65 cents postage fee (i.e. a stamp) to send it off to ING. Is this how it's supposed to go down?

    • Nope, I didn't have to pay anything at all. I figured ING covers the cost for using their service.

  • I got mine about 2 weeks ago went to the local PO and they done it for me by scanning the barcode on the form and charged me nothing took about 2 mins to do and only needed to supply them my drivers licence. after a few hours on the same day i received an email from ING confirming they have received all my details and my account was ready to use and they were sending me my card in the mail very easy and did't cost nothing :)

  • So is there anyway of claiming the money back?

    • If it all works out in the end and they did correctly verify the ID, I'm not sure its worth asking them for a refund for that amount. You'll need to line up and tell them what happened and I'm sure your time is worth much more than that. Assuming you receive all the bonuses, up to $140, you'll still be $136.05 up, so not bad for a little effort. You can try, if you feel its a matter of principle :)

Most Post offices provide Bank@Post (to check: http://apps.nowwhere.com.au/austpost/PostOfficeLocator/), it could be that yours has not implemented this, and they saw it as an extra service

When do we get the first $20 for signup via that link?
I got the first $20 for direct transfer (there is a $20 transaction in my account saying "First Deposit/Salary Bonus" but nothing about $20 signup bonus .

  • ING direct and Money Magazine is offering an exclusive $20 bonus for signing up to the Orange Everyday Transaction Account (will get shortly after March 31)

    • Hi,I have open my account already, but I forgot to transfer money into it.If I deposit money after 31 March. Can I still get $20 bonus?

  • What is the best way for non ubank customers to arrange a direct debit out of their ing accounts?

    • -1

      ignore

    • Do you have paypal? Add the ING account as a source to your paypal account. This will give you the bonus for the deposit because paypal deposits 2 tiny amounts to verify your account, and once u make a purchase it will direct debit your account for another bonus.

      • Yes I do Thank You

      • EDITED - nevermind, you need to add the accounts as bank accounts not credit cards lol

  • Well i'm up to step 3 now. $80.02 so far, off to Coles tomorrow to do 2*cash outs.

Unfortunately all that this is going to go towards is the fillings that I had done today.. bloody dentists :-p

  • does it say anywhere how much it is to withdraw less than 200? just wondering, not listed on http://ingdirect.com.au/pdf/Orange_Everyday_Fees_and_Charges…

    it does say this however:
Note: You may incur ATM fees from the owner of the ATM that you are using to access your Orange Everyday account

    • I think that depends on the owner of the ATM - you will be shown the amount charged (usually 1.50 or 2) and asked if you want to proceed with the withdrawal. Even when you withdraw $200, you'd still get that prompt and the cost will still come off your account but ING rebates it immediately.

  • I've just received a letter a letter saying :
"Your second Orange Everyday is now up and running."

I do not quite understand why they are referring to the opened account as a second one. Yes I had a Orange Everyday account opened 6 months ago or so and then closed it soon after that (see http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/16906). So at the time of opening an account a few days ago I had no accounts at ING.
So, here is my question :
Does it mean that if I apply for one more Orange Everyday today or tomorrow, it won't count as asecond one and I won't get $20+$20+$20 bonus ?

    • Think of it this way. The maximum benefit you will receive is $20 + 2x($60) =$140, no matter how many accounts you opened/closed.
If the account that you opened 6 months ago - you received $120 in bonuses with 2 accounts, im not sure you can create another account to redeem the bonuses.

If 6 months ago, you only created one account and received the bonuses for that one account, you can still get the $60 bonus this time, but no more.

This is what I think anyways.

      • -1

Actually, the maximum benefit is potentially unlimited. I say potentially, because ING will intervene at some point, to protect their interests.

You can keep opening and closing the linked second account and the $20 bonuses reset every time. The whole process takes about 15 minutes - you can call up, close the second account, then open a new Orange Everyday online in the applications section, do a funds transfer from the first account to the new second one to trigger the first deposit bonus, go to your nearest fee-free EFTPOS store, make a purchase/cash out using the CHQ button, get that bonus, return home again, transfer your gains to an external financial institution, and then repeat as desired.

Best part is, theres absolutely nothing in the Terms and Conditions document or on the Orange Everyday page that disallows you from doing this. The best they can do is freeze your accounts (which won't matter if theres no money in them). That and removing the bonus payments offer altogether. A most unfortunate oversight on ING's part.

I won't say how much I got by doing this.

Thought you guys might want to know :)

    • Try it and report back to us.

  • thanx but i am still a bit confused as I can't see anything in terms and conditions referring to previously opened and currently closed accountes.

  • Is the cheque account under Orange Everyday? or does it come with extra fees?

Why can't we just get two visa cards? O_O. :'(

Also, how easy it is to close your account?

    • When you open the second account it gives you the option to get an extra card or just link it to you existing account, myself I just linked it to the existing card I already have. And its the same account no fee's etc you just press a different button to access it if your only using 1 card

  • Technically would it be possible to close all accounts after receiving all money and then reopen the accounts for double dipping….

  • The few cents that paypal deposit when you kink paypal to your orange account counts as a salary deposit and you will get $20 per account setup.

    • +1

A deposit of any kind into the bank account will get you the $20.

  • I recently set this up and linked to PayPal, thus triggering small deposits = $20 free! I buy something on eBay using my $20, triggering a direct debit = another $20 free! I'll probably go buy a pack of chewing gum using the card = another $20 free! This is too easy. It's raining free money! Easiest $60 ever, beats any Logitech bargain. This deal should have 1000 positives, not just 50.

    • Hehe, glad you like it sparkles. Not to mention the free $20 from money magazine offer that you should get after March. Don't forget that you can obtain another set of $60 bonus by opening up another orange everyday and repeating the steps on that account to get the bonuses :)

    • sparkles

Can you please advise how you have done direct debit from ebay
I'm still strugling to get an esay (flexible/one-off) firect debit option

      • Login to your paypal account and add the accounts as bank accounts then request $1 for example to be deducted from them this money will then sit in your paypal account towards your next purchase.

  • I used half of the few cents that paypal deposits into my account to direct debit back to paypal for my bonus direct debit

  • Hi, is it possible to direct debit a small amount to Paypal without having to make a purchase? I'm not familiar with Paypal and not interested in buying anything yet. How do I initiate the direct debit from Paypal? Thanks
