You'd be better off waiting for another one of those eBay deals to nab the G4 at ~$450

    • You'll be waiting a while… The last few deals were for specific stores. I don't see ebay giving out a deal any time soon

    • +2

I've been waiting awhile for the deal again on ebay for a G4 at the 450 price point.. From what I can tell its as if G4 stock is drying up. Perhaps LG is limiting the manufacturing of the G4 phone to make way for the V10.. No idea..

  • Brand new stock, not refurb? So hard to decide, eglobal D858 dual sim grey import only $349 … D855V, looks like a vodafone branded version

This CAN be upgraded to the Cyanogenmod version of the latest version of Android - Marshmallow! (Also LG will update it too if I'm correct.)

Also with Marshmallow, you can use the G3's expandable storage as the phone's internal storage (and so, this phone isn't really 16GB when you have Marshmallow).

This, or the OnePlus X? LG is more trusted… probably has the better camera. But the OnePlus is made of glass…

    • Still waiting on the Marshmallow update on my LG G4.

      • +1

Running offical LG marshmallow 6.0 on my G4, though I did have to flash it myself. You could still be waiting a while if you are waiting for the OTA, especially if you have the Telstra version. Very quick and simple to flash, check out xda for info if you're interested.

    • I was using CM12.1 for awhile before Marshmallow was even announced, it was buggy. Couldn't turn phone on whilst it was charging (if it was powered off. You had to unplug the charger and then turn on and then plug charger back in) it would periodically reboot, and the camera was crappy, remote ir blaster didn't work, no dual screen app support.

Am currently using CloudyG3, debloated stock firmware.

  • shown as $339 on webpage?

    • i will need to pay for delivery as well

  • Shipping prices are good too.
    $6.24 eparcel standard.

  • Is this AU stock or grey?

    • Linked page says Australian stock and Australian local manufacturer warranty.

  • +2

Its a great phone, still really happy with mine a year later.

  • G3 or S5?

    • I chose S5, QHD screen kills battery life of the phone on G3

    • S5 cuz it's water resistant; chuck it under the tap to clean it…

edit: but where will you get a similarly priced S5??

      • $322 for S5 in yeaterday's Harvey Norman deal!

        • -1

          ?

If you're talking about https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/227257, that was two days ago, and near 400 :D … WHEW

        • -2

@inose: no, it was $322, believe us.

        • -1

          @eisniwre:

          OK I believe you.

          =p

        • @eisniwre:

$322 if you had Amex and used the $25 off voucher?

        • @jonathonsunshine:

(serious question) Where is this deal I've missed?

        • +1

@inose: it was the one you posted a few comments up. The sale price was $397, but ppl with American Express cards get $50 off and you can get a $25 voucher if you subscribe to Harvey's newsletter

        • @inose:

Check Harvey Normal deals post on 25th Dec.

        • @jonathonsunshine:

          Ah, understood. Thank you!

  • it doesn't really worth it specially it has 2GB RAM. I had g3 with 2GB ram before, its laggy as hell. sold it after couple of weeks of usage and bought one with 3GB ram. its much better and still using it as my main phone. Also if you want to increase battery life flash it to cloudyg3 rom.

    • S5 is also 2GB RAM but not as many complaints. What do you say?

      • I don't know about LG but Samsung's devices usually use most of the RAM to run background apps which cannot be stopped (unless you root it?) and leaving only 1/3 RAM available for anything else you want to use. My Tab S with 3GB RAM but only 1.1GB left for me to use no matter how much I force stop those running apps or clear the RAM each time.

        • I don't think you understand androids RAM management. It's good that its using a lot of RAM, thats what its supposed to do, if another app needs the memory then it will give it access to it and close off those background apps automatically. Empty ram is wasted ram, just check out your windows ram usage, windows does the same thing now.

You're actually making your phone slower/using more battery by force closing apps, unless those apps are very poorly coded, but that is fairly rare if you are using well known apps.

        • @brad1601: really? I watched a lot of you tube videos about force stop apps you don't use to extend battery hours and allows your phone runs smoothly. So it is good to use up all your RAM all the time by opening as many apps as possible and to extend your battery hours?

        • @wtfnodeal:

Basically what I'm saying is, let the OS (Android) manage it's own RAM. Trust me they didn't forgot about memory management when they coded the OS, it will do a better more efficient job that any of these back yard hack together 'force stop' apps.

        • @brad1601: so in fact 512Mb or 1GB RAM is enough given the OS will close those apps when opens another? 2GB or 3GB are pointless?

        • @wtfnodeal:

512 or 1gb may not be enough any more for a smooth experience on Android anymore, sure it will run but it may not be a great experience.

The OS itself will need a certain amount of RAM, and what's left over can get used by applications and if there isn't enough left over for whatever app your running to not have to shuffle resources from the nand memory to the RAM, its not going to be a smooth experience.

Another example would be the web browser, a phone with 3gb RAM you may be able to have 40+tabs open, where as a 1gb gb phone may have had to purge the first tab from memory (it will still be there, the page woll just have to reload when you return to it) by the time you've opened your 5th tab.

Here is some more reading if you don't believe me.

          http://www.phonearena.com/news/Task-killers-and-memory-clean…

        • @wtfnodeal: which would result you with apps restarting when you go back to it. Apps and tabs refreshing when you switch one app to another tend to be due to apps being closed by the device. More RAM is especially better on Android because it means you run multiple things at once without things closing due to low memory i.e. LMK wouldn't kick in. Force stopping things would just cause your device to refresh your apps.

The problem with Samsung one is that there are too many system apps running in the background (which did get reduced with their newer TouchWiz, but enough for me get tweaking). . There are other issues with their settings (i.e. They messed up the LMK setting on lollipop, however is fixed on 6.0 (at least looks like it from leaks from beta testers), their 5.0.1 do not have the fix Google implemented on Google's mess up with Android etc), though that's slightly different story.

Also with your device, try Debloater or Package Disabler Pro. You don't need root access and you can disable most, if not all, system apps.

        • @Oversimplified: so the question here is why my nexus 7 2013 has 2GB RAM with 1GB RAM free but my Tab S has 3GB RAM with only 1.1GB RAM free. Both only just reset to factory and on Lollipop so does it mean Tab S has more auto runs background apps and if I use up all 3GB the OS will close those non-background apps first?

        • @brad1601: that's exactly what I am complaining about Samsung, the OS decides to close my web browsers and lets the background apps continue to use the remaining of the RAM. You don't know what I am complaining about Samsung instead of I don't know how OS runs.

        • @wtfnodeal:

The problem with Samsung one is that there are too many system apps running in the background.

It's usually the "system related apps", from what I've seen. Samsung tend to make their own thing on top of what Android offers to "set" themselves apart. It tends to make their TouchWiz "heavier".

          For Android memory stuff:

Android tends to try to keep everything that might be relevant on its RAM. When you have low amount of RAM, LMK (LowMemoryKiller) kicks in. It kills apps accordingly to how it is set. The setting of this as far as I know categorises apps into several categories. This includes everything (i.e. launcher, contacts, calender etc etc)

All of these categories have a threshold. Android manages RAMs by killing off the apps in categories (or in multiple categories) depending on whether it has higher priority and the setting of the threshold in which this kicks in.

Higher minimum threshold would mean more things would be able to run at the same time. Though it would mean that you'd have less RAM available.

So, that's the argument between OSs, when you go into manufacturer modification to Android, it's slightly complicated in my opinion (though most people would label TouchWiz as laggy POS and move on).

In Samsung's case, it's kind of like more "system related processes". Compared to stock Android, Samsung adds lots of stuff on top (and tweaks things as well) for better or for worse. There might be useless ones for you that you'd not use, but others use, (if you don't use Fingerprint reader, for example, you'd not require services for fingerprint reader, which Google didn't introduce to Android until Marshmallow). Samsung does have their fair share of apps that people tend to not use that runs in background (i.e. S Health, S Finder). To your question, I don't know, it really depends on how LMK setting is set which I cannot tell.

That said, what I could tell you is, using process killers is usually a bad idea, because it means everything that the process killers killed will be reloaded.

If you want to get rid of the stuff by Samsung, those ones that you don't want to use, but don't want to root, use Debloater. That thing is easy to use in my opinion.

      • QHD.

      • I dont really know much about S5 as I didnt use it for long period of time. I think the only advantage with the S5 you will get the fingerprint, IP67 (dust and water resistant) and higher camera quality. However, with the lg g3 you will get bigger screen. the display is amazing the colours and resolution. Also I love the knock feature with the back buttons. And you will get the M update from LG very soon.

    • My G4 has lagged a few times. I'd hate to see what having 2GB of RAM would do.

  • If only this was the 3gb model

  • Why in introduction above the price is mention at Camera icon "no"?

  • -1

If it's the 2gb version forget about it. G5 is not far off if you can hold off.

  • +1

    For anyone interested, here's the 32GB 3GB version for 354 + delivery ($20-$30) http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/lg-g3-d855-3gb-ram-3…

  • -2

    DONT GET 2GB MODEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its terrible, the phone is laggy and unusable.

the 3GB is marvelous on the other hand.

I had an LG G3 phone and it was a great phone, however after 18months of use, the screen started to flicker and fades to darkness up to the point that you can no longer use it. This issue is already posted in android central website. http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g3/527306-why-does-my-lg…
It seems its a motherboard or connection issue, but looks like there is no fix yet from LG. Before this issue, Im planning to upgrade to G4 because G3 is a great phone but decided not to. I'm not saying that all LG G3 have this problem, but just wanted everyone to be aware.

    • +1

doesnt LG have 24 month warranty ?

      • Yes, but unfortunately, I bought mine overseas. But based on the experience of others in US( android central forum), even LG service at this moment cannot fix the issue.

  • This vs the Huawei P8?

  • If I hadn't of purchased my G4 for $550 during a previous sale I would defiantly pick up a G3 good price

  • I bought the G3 on aliexpress for $250 two weeks ago. Had AT&T's OS…just installed cynogenmod and all is well.

  • Just went to Wireless1 and bought it, it even came with a FREE view window premium case made in Korea too!

Don't really care about lagging, only use for whatsapp and video, need BIG screen, better then digging around stupid hardly normal for S5 which is now impossible to find one.

  • Did anyone who bought online get their phone dispatched yet? I ordered five days ago and it still says processing..

    • i read about bad experience for their online orders, like there's no stock but saying available, and customers got no response at all, hence i rang them up to confirm stock, then drove all the way to the parramatta shop today and want to see the real item before paying, even one of the staff was so shock and rolling his eyes saying "WHAT! how come so cheap" when he saw the price himself.

I have checked the imei and S/N, this is the leftover stock from Vodafone and LG promotion a year ago below:
      http://www.lg.com/au/promotions/VodafonePromotion

Can't believe the pawn shop at hurstville westfield (can't remember the name) which sell 2nd hand phones and games still selling few of these between $385-$410!!!

      • Thanks for your reply. So they still had stock in store today? Only problem is I'm not in town until Sunday, which is why I ordered online. Also, is the case the official LG version? Doesn't seem like it from the link.

        • don't think is official case from LG, got a website printed on the box www.voia.co.kr, its free, i m not complaining …
