While you're there you should check for these Verbatim 8GB flash drives for $2. http://www.target.com.au/p/verbatim-store-n-go-micro-usb-dri…

Available in Blue, Pink, Green and Black. USB 2.0 but for $2 you can't expect much.

    • add it to the title as 4892 does not seem to mind

    • I still have 10 of the 16GB USB 3 sticks from Woolworths I got for $2 each.

Verbatim is a decent brand I think.

  • Any way to check store availability ?

    • Call Customer Service who will tell you which stores had some in the last 48 hours, because that how long it takes to refresh apparently. Or call the store directly. Otherwise, nope. Target doesn't make it easy to check stock unfortunately.

  • I take it from the comment "they are likely soldered interface" that you can't remove from case & put in a laptop?

I believe that is what they are getting at yes, that it can't be easily removed from the caddy for use internally in a laptop, game console etc - has anyone confirmed soldering with this model?

    • I bought several Verbatim USB2 portable hard drives a year ago during a Big W clearance. At around the same time the Patriot USB 3 housing was on special for $10. I cracked open the Verbatim drives and the interface was not soldered so I was able to redeploy them but these may have been a different model and YMMV. The models I bought were very slim and came in a box (long since recycled).

  • Can anyone please answer any of these? (I may answer #3 myself, if I can get firm answers to 1 & 2.)

    1. Is Verbatim HDD decent quality/reliability? (Compared to WD, I guess?)

    2. Are there any issues with using the USB3 on a USB2 laptop?

    3. If anyone buys one and opens it, please confirm if it's a standard or soldered connection?

      1. Descent enough. They've been around for a long time and make a quality product

      2. No. USB 3 works perfectly fine on USB 2. The only time you encounter an issue when using USB 3 is if you're trying to install Windows from a USB 3 device on a computer that doesn't have the correct drivers loaded in bios in which case Windows won't install correctly. Doubt you'll be installing Windows from a 1TB external drive

      3. Like most cheap hard drives, the Verbatim Store 'n' go drives are unfortunately soldiered

      • Ah, well - thank you. :-) Back to plan A then - buy a 2.5" WD, and separate enclosure.

long time lurker, first time poster. For those questioning quality - I've had a 320gb verbatim for as long as that was the biggest capacity - YEARS. It has been written and re-written and formatted again and again. Solid as a rock.
