  • Definitely been considering this. Thinking I might prefer the build quality of a Lenovo E560.

    • If your going to say something like that provide some info / pricing of what your talking about please.

    • +4

If you want any kind of service don't get the Lenovo. I've been pestering them for 3 months to fix my in-warranty tablet.

      • +6

Agreed. Took me literally over 6 months to get a screen replaced on my laptop…worst company I've ever dealt with

    • +3

"build quality" and "Lenovo" aren't often seen in the same sentence these days…
You'll find the quality of product, service and warranty much better from Dell.

  • +1

Was looking at this before this was posted.
866 + hopefully 40 bucks back from Cash Rewards is a OzBargain!

  • +1

Last purchase was a dud. Screen bleed and major keypad issues! Buying via ebay Malaysia Dell for me was a mistake! It is taking almost a month now (maybe due to festive season) for the replacement. I'm hoping the replacement unit will be flawless.

    • +1

i bought one last month with dell au ebay i think. replacement received with 2 days after approval. i had it replaced two times. finally got a machine happy with.

      • yup i usually buy from dell sydney and they are easy and fast to deal with.

      • what was the fault? Would you still recommend this? Price is sooo good…

        • +2

This deal is belong to Dell AU, not Malaysia.

        • @cminez:

Indeed. But it says it will be shipped from Malaysia.

So will it be covered and dealth with by Dell AU if there's any problem, or do I have to send it back to Malaysia for warranty?

        • Fault was a bad screen bleed + Touchpad was sticky and jumpy (cursor would just jump randomly).

        • @cminez:

Its coming from Malaysia. It will be sent back to Malaysia. Replacement will come from Malaysia.

Well thats what happening to mine. Exactly this unit.

        • @j03:

My first BTO Dell was sent from Malaysia. I had service in Australia. Their staff at Chatwood helped me really good. I'm not sure they do still have service booth at Westfield.

    • Most products from the Dell website or Dell AU eBay store are shipped from their overseas factories (Malaysia, China).
Some models are pre-built (aka: Smart Selection) and these are usually shipped from Sydney.
Products on the Dell Outlet (As New & Refurbished) are also usually shipped from Sydney.

  • Which SSD is good to go?

  • I bought this exactly at 11.01am lol via cash rewards. But unlike my purchases with Samsung, I didnt get a cashrewards notif even after 1 hour.

    Should i worry?

    Also what ssd will fit?

    • Last time I bought something from Ebay via Cashrewards. It didn't show up until the next day.
      Other places have been quicker.

As for today, I put my order in at 11:36am.
      I'll see how I go.

  • will swapping the hdd to ssd void the warranty?

    • Get a caddy for the cd drive and put a ssd in tge optical slot. Might avoid your problem.

      • not gonna solve the problem if you need to open the backplate and potentially break void stickers.

Highly unlikely that opening the backdoor will void your warranty, send it back with the original drive if you need warranty.

        • so no stickers will be damaged from opening the backdoor for the HDD?

        • @seigweilo: I've opened atleast a dozen dell laptops over the years, never once seen them use void stickers or breakable tabs. These things are made to be changed, otherwise they'd be soldered on the laptop, even on the dell forums reps say opening it wont void warranty.

  • Was hoping to get a bargain on XPS 13. Too bad, Dell didn't reduced the XPS 13 price on their Ebay website. Its selling for $1699 on their website but $1999 on ebay site. Damn ….

  • I just bought a similar one. I've had my eye on this one for a while for the wife: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331679499093

Good specs, 15.6" 1080p display (with touchscreen), 8GB RAM, 256 SSD, 6th Gen i7-6500U. Its for the wife's writing and uni, so it's more than capable.

$1999 on the Dell site, $1499 on Dell eBay site, $1275 with the 15% discount. Plus the CashRewards discount, it's not too far off half price of dell.com.au

  • Maybe a stupid question….but this has touchscreen right?

    • It does not…

  • wish there was a good deal with a quad core CPU

  • Very tempting! Or this deal better? About $934.15 after Ebay 15% off. 6th gen i7 6500u chip but lower 6G ram and 1TB HDD. However, display is 1366 x 768

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-5000-Series-Lapt…

  • @scozzie: I am not good with computers. Is the one you bought or this deal better with configuration??

    • Yes, the one I mentioned is better (well, depending on your needs). It has a newer, faster processor, it has an SSD hard drive (faster). Touchscreen (if you need it). It doesn't have a numpad keyboard, which is what my wife was looking for in a laptop.

Both are great deals, it just depends what you prefer or need. The one listed in the OP is a great deal if you don't mind about having last years processor technology. For the average user, this is negligible and will do just fine :)

  • Note that this model has only 1 usb 3.0 with HDMI 1.4 (latest is 2.0) with only 100mbps LAN.

It has however AC Wifi so i think thats compensating enough.

    • Pretty disappointing that there are still laptops being sold with 100Mbps networking cards.

  • sold out…!!!

  • sold out…..WHO TOOK THE LAST ONE WHILST I WAS CHECKING OUT?!?!? :P

  • Not interested in the laptop but picked up an el cheapo Dell desktop for mum and dad for $425. He's happy :)

  • Thanks god, I got one half an hour before it sold out. This + $200 500GB Samsung Evo SSD = SUPER!

  • Half an hour ago 78% renaining when we purchased.

  • +2

    Missed !

  • Looks like they didn't put the current 15% off prices on their web site on their ebay stock, so you can't stack it with this.

I've been waiting for a 20-30% off XPS deal, (which I have seen before) to coincide with an ebay deal.

  • +2

I can't believe that I lost it… I've been waiting for a promo like this for more than a month :(

  • +1

    Anyone knows similar deal around?

  • TN panel?

  • +2

Dang, this is exactly what I've been looking for.
Silly me for doing things outside today…

  • Sold out within 2 hours. It was a pretty good deal

    • It looks like 41 got sold yesterday (39 after the deal was posted).

As it's a superseded model, they're unlikely to get more stock.

  • +1

Cashreward made a saving of $40. Very happy.

  • FYI, eBay has revised the 15% off coupon to expire at 30/12 1PM AEDT instead of 31/12

  • How are people than managed to get this finding it?

    • had to read twice then read again… huh?

      • lol. Sorry, I realized after it was too late to edit that it was really badly worded.
I was wondering how people who have received theirs are liking it?
I was considering getting a model from the Dell outlet with this exact configuration (but $200 more expensive), and was looking for some reviews.
Ended up buying it anyway, so the point's kind of moot now.

        • most of us here might be on the same boat - waiting for delivery.

How are you finding yours? any reason why you chose an above average spec'ed laptop? Mine's mainly for mobile video editing.

        • @seigweilo: Should be delivered Monday…
I wanted one that would last for quite a while, my current laptop is 8 years old - hopefully I'll get similar out of this.
I do a lot of large spreadsheet and GIS modeling for work that requires a bit of oomph, plus a bit of programming and RAW photo editing on the side. I also like that it's easy to upgrade/change the insides of these machines (HDD, optical drive, Wi-Fi) if required.
Made more sense in the long run than a lower spec'd machine I'd need to upgrade in 2 years.

        • @Jonaseymour:

sounds like the perfect machine then!

Right on on being able to swap the internals, I'll get a HDD caddy for mine and ditch the DVD.

        • @seigweilo: here's hoping. Always a bit nervous with big purchases.

  • has anyone received theirs?

    • no, when is your ETA?

      • this Monday, I think it's in SYD now hence the "with local carrier" status

        • My eta is Monday too. It also shows its with local courier under status.

      • On Dell's Order Status page, there should be a Tracking Number and Carrier code.
If Carrier is SAU, enter the Tracking Number at the StarTrack website and press <Track>

        https://www.startrack.com.au/

        • Man, it is a bitch to get this thing delivered…
          Attempted delivery yesterday.
Can't redirect to work address. Can't give authority to leave. Therefore, forced to pick up from depot, as I won't be at home for delivery.
Went to depot this morning (way out of town), not ready for pick up. Needs to be 'isolated'. So I play the waiting game until another trek out woop-woop is required.
Star Track + Dell is not a nice delivery partnership.

        • @Jonaseymour: Got it finally. Switched out HDD for SSD, next is to switch the optical drive to external, and replace with HDD. This should do the trick..

  • grrr… taking me forever to reinstall image in ssd. how's everyone doing?

    • I got laptop today. I use Samsung SSD evo 500gb and done in 10 minutes. Samsung data migration is awesome. Worth the wait.

  • got mine today. thanks ozbargainers for info n reviews.

  • Can everyone confirm that this is specifically the 5558 model.

    • Yeah, that's the model I've been using on all my searches for things.

      • How are you finding the touchpad? I've DL'ed the latest drivers but the 2 finger swipes to scroll down pages is very glitchy, even with inertia.

Have tried 3 OS'es already to no avail.

        • I haven't found any issues with 2 finger scrolling. The 3 finger gestures are a bit hit and miss, but I don't think I'd use them much anyway.
What do you mean 3 OS'es? You mean different versions on Windows? Or have you but Linux on or something?
I've just stuck with what it came with W10 home.

        • @Jonaseymour:

I installed Windows 8, 8.1, and currently using 7 Ultimate to test the apps that I'll be using. The 2 finger scroll stutters a lot. Oh well, I'll be using the mouse more with this setup anyway.
