Panasonic TH-55CX640A 55inch 4K UHD TV $1094.80 @ The Good Guys eBay

620
CELEBRATE2015

The Good Guys just lowered the price of the Panasonic TH-55CX640A even further to $1288

When you factor in EBAY 15% + Cashrewards 4% cashback it comes down to $1045

This is an amazing deal i don't think you'll see anytime soon. This cheaper than a lower end Hisense/TCL UHD 55Inch !

This is a 4K UHD TV with Native 100HZ (800hz with software), Local dimming, Hexa Chroma (panasonic alternative to Quantum Dot), FireFox OS. These are premium features not seen even on Samsung JU6400.

Read more on features: https://blogs.panasonic.com.au/consumer/2015/05/13/panasonicā€¦

I have compared this TV to the Samsung JU6400 and the LG UF680, i had the store run same content on all 3 and Panasonic looked the best. Samsung JU6400 suffers from huge Juddger problems in movies (look up the reviews)

Grab it while you can.

    • No, that was an older price and other TVs. This is a new price they just updated few hours ago.

      • Okay sorry, missed that. How did you find the blacks on this?

        • +1

This has local dimming, a feature only available in high end TVs. Samsung JU6400, LG and Sony that are in similar price range all have global dimming.

Local dimming means deep blacks, so yes the blacks are excellent from my observation when I demoed it in store.

This is also back lit TV not edge lit another good feature.

        • @Bargaingeek: Cheers for that, missed out but good to know for next time.

  • Good found OP. Thanks.

  • Trying to decide on a new telly. Can I ask: what are people using the 4k resolution for? What 4k content do you watch? Ta.

EDIT: from what I've read in the last two minutes, 4k is useful for online streaming services only. And since my internet connection only just supports 720p, I guess a 4k telly holds no value for me :)

    • +1

I can see alot of 4k p0rn available for DL, hardly any movies….only Netflix or PC gaming. I will be getting 4k when 4k movies are available.

      • +2

Yeah, pron is about the only >1080p content I've noticed.

        • Cheers Fappo

    • i thought this too, but of what i hear - and it makes sense - even if you use a 4k tv just for upscaled 1080p content (as in, takes 1080p content and scales it up to 4k by filling in the blanks as best the software can), while obviously not being as good as native 4k content, its a clearer image than 1080p content on a 1080p panel. basically 4k > upscaled 1080p > 1080p i suppose, assuming that the tv's upscaling software is sufficiently good, and i assume a big name brand like Panasonic's would be.

also keep in mind that even if you're streaming 1080p off netflix / youtube / etc, it'll be nowhere near as good as Blu-ray content, even though they're both 1080p. blu-ray has a much higher bitrate than the highly compressed 1080p streams that most internet connections can stream, so yeah, if you have a decent blu-ray collection then a 4k tv could potentially be worth it for the aforementioned upscaling reasons, but if you're only streaming content (720p, 1080p, whatever) then maybe not.

15% off ebay code is over

    • The code is still working as we speak (despite it being revised to expire at 1pm). See post

Edit: Code now expired at 6pm

      • Interesting!

        • Indeed

Sooooooo tempted. Crazy cheap. Especially like the idea of twin tuners and tv anytime.

    • Yes, too tempting…. but spending 4k on stuff last few days, and PS4 deal today……. na. will wait for 65" deal for similar price range in mid year sales…….

  • Twin tuners are handy, Firefox is is not. This is a great price! I compared this and others running the same content in a JB Hifi store and the UHD Samsung was the standout, though no settings were tweaked. Anyway, this is an amazing price.

    • This is first version of FireFox OS for TV so yes apps maybe limited compared to more established smart TV. I demoed the OS its very clean and fast and FireFox browser is the strongest point, it has the main basic apps like Netflix etc but it lacks a large selection.

Hopefully Firefox releases more updates and apps with time.

IMO all smart TVs OS are mostly rubbish, most ppl don't use them, maybe with the exception of Android TV.

But I think with things like Chromecast and other smart TV extensions or your own media server its not a major issue of you don't like the firefox OS

      • IMO all smart TVs OS are mostly rubbish,

Roku is pretty nice. I live in the USA now and got a TCL Roku TV during Black Friday sales. The OS is nice and responsive, and there's heaps of apps available.

        • Thanks for the comment, i hear good things about Roku. I might get that instead of chromecast.

  • I have 4 TVs in the house already with 1 sitting idle as a backup. But some part of me is forcing me to buy this TV.

More the marrier mate. Put one in the dunny

    • Go for it!

  • god damn, cheap and tempting. Must hold onto my Toshiba 46" from Amazon Germany circa 2012

    • Haha me too

      • Lucky it sold out, cheers to another year with our Toshibas!

        • everyone think I'm mad that I bought a 46" tv from Amazon Germany for $700

  • Does anyone know how Picture and Picture (PAP) works on this model? Can you have XBone one on one side and TV showing on the other at same time?

    • It looks like you can, see page 207-210 of the manual.

    • I have a vt60 with twin tuners but it doesn't actually support PIP, it's mainly so you can record while watching, or record 2 shows at once. I have only had it a few weeks so maybe I haven't figured out how to use it but at the least it's not obvious

So the first step for your answer would be to find out if it actually does PIP at all

    • Yes this has PIP and dual tuner another great feature of this TV

      • Would you be so kind to let us know about this feature when you get the TV? Specifically if you can have an HDMI input along with the TV at same time. The way I read the manual it's says you have have 2 TV shows on the same time but it is unclear if you can have HDMI and TV same time. I've been interested in Panasonic as the picture looks great in store but the PIP/PAP feature is also important for me. Thanks!

    • Code expired at 1pm. Ebay changed the T&C's for the code.

  • It seems ebay pulled the plug on coupon just now, hope you all got a chance to buy this amazing 4K TV for $1045 :)

I looked for 2 days which TV to buy. Didn't find this one. Yesterday was having lunch near GG seen this TV$1388 in shop. Checked eBay price and with cash rewards $244 cheaper! Wining!

Bought on phone in car park but then they said I had to wait for confirmation to give me the TV. Drove the 35 minutes home, phone rang In my driveway to say your TV is ready

After I posted this deal, I noticed they ran out of stock for about 45min then reinstated, maybe that's why they told you to wait? Not sure.
