  • Apple TV price for AU model is insane!

    • I bought a UK variant for the same price, will I be ok?

      http://www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/281867073207

      • all good except local warranty

        • Will Apple still cover it?

  • +1

    Superb stuff…but where are the Sony X8500C TV's? :)

    • I am looking for the 55x8500c as well. No deals yet … :-(

  • I'm bit torn between the gen 3 apple tv and new gen. I don't know which one to get or the price gap is worth it

    • +1

Get the Gen 3 because it looks as though you can sideload apps now.

      • Care to explain please? Sounds interesting.

    • +1

Stick with Gen3 for time being, I bought the new one as soon as Plex released for Apple TV, and regretted it. Turned out that if your movies are anything than .mov or .mp4, your Plex server host has to transcode on the fly, so unless you have a pretty powerful server/PC or NAS (at least i7/16GB), you can forget about transocding 720p or 1080p (That's only if you plan to use the ATV for Plex)

  • Would the LG 43UF680T be decent as a monitor?

    • +1

I was just thinking the same. I googled, but couldn't find any reviews specifically as a monitor. But saw reviews for console gaming and it rated very well.

    • +2

      According to whirlpool.net.au - no: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2484266

      • Good article. I wasn't aware of chroma subsampling until I read this article. For those interested, here is a simple explanation:

        http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6144/easy-vide…

edit: I kept digging into TV's that can be used for monitors and found that input lag can also be an issue for gamers. Some TV's have over 100ms of lag. Another thing to watch out for. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-test-results/input-lag?u…

      • It's probably incorrect. From the manual:
        http://www.lg.com/au/support-product/lg-43UF680T
        • Picture HDMI ULTRA HD Deep
        Colour :
        - On : Support 4K @ 50/60 Hz (4:4:4, 4:2:2, 4:2:0)
        - Off : Support 4K @ 50/60 Hz (4:2:0)
If the device connected to Input Port also supports ULTRA HD Deep
Colour, your picture may be clearer.
However, if the device doesn’t support it, it may not work properly.
In that case, connect the device to a different HDMI port or change
the TV’s HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour setting to Off. (This feature is
available on certain models which are supported ULTRA HD Deep Colour
        only.)

I have one and can confirm that setting is in the menu, however I have not tested with a 4:4:4 source.

i saw the Panasonic UHD 640, must be a new super low end spec model as it wasnt around a few weeks ago.
Not much of a deal seeing the 700 was around $150 more.

  • +1

any of these able to do 4:4:4 and not have horrific input lag?

    • Panasonic TH-55CX640A 55" UHD LED LCD 100Hz Smart TV $1145

might, it dosnt have a DP but can do it 4k 60hz over HDMI but not sure if it can do 4:4:4 it shoudl i guess… im sticking to my philips 40" but a bigger size one would be nice then again. Id like it to be 5k though ;-)

  • +1

Good price on Apple TV Gen4 but considering getting gray import one from Kogan Ebay which is nearly $50 cheaper for the 64GB one.

  • really said i missed out on that LG tv :(

    • +1

It's back in stock, also There is a 40" Samsung one I just added for $805, not as good but still great buy :)

  • Any decent deals with the Apple Watch Sport? Or is that stuff removed when the sale starts.
    Preferably new from a retailer

  • +1

Just took the father in law out to buy the 55cx640a yesterday from TGG. I'll be wise not too mention this deal I think. Would have saved him $200

  • Any good deal for small TV - just want with HDMI or VGA connection and something you can watch Free TV with - dont want to spend $550 for the big TV as I already have one..

  • +1

For those planning to use these 4k TVs as computer monitor, i suggest its best to get this 40" 4k Philips monitor with native 4k60p support via display port. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Philips-Monitor-40-16-9-LED-3840x…

    • 40" for a computer monitor is quite large?
      30" would be optimal?

      • well to take full advantage of 4k resolution, i would say 40" 4k monitor is optimal for normal everyday viewing and general use with less input lag since its designed as a computer monitor. running 4k at 30" the text size may be too small. fyi this this monitor guaranteed 4k resolution at 60 hertz through display port which most average graphic card can support while HDMI 2.0 (The UHD Tvs listed above) is not support by most graphic card at all.

  • Any good deal on split system air con from TGG? Thanks

    • Best thing I can suggest is go to the normal GG Website and look at the current specials, once you find one go check if it's on the ebay site :) Also you can look at their boxing day catalogue on their website which has aircon specials in it

      • How do you actually just search from TGG ebay store?

you need to use the normal site so you can see the discounts, ebay usually won't show when a product has been reduced

        • @TRENT86: their site actually list same price as ebay. Glad I found the one I like on ebay. It works out cheaper through ebay after discount, though in store discount is still pretty good.

        • +1

@Droid11: Yeah all prices on good guys normal site will be the same as the ebay site but as I said ebay doesn't normally show the discount so it won't say Was $1999 now $1499, that's why it's best to view normal site so you can see the best discounts and then buy it from ebay :)

  • Similar question to macksta - am after a ~40 inch for watching free to air, DVDs, iview etc. No gaming or 3D. Viewing distance range 2 to 3 metres. Any of the above recommended for this (given they come back into stock!)? Any advice gratefully received.

    • +1

Go for the Panasonic or Sony as it sounds you don't need 100Hz, only real difference is the sony has smart function

      • Thanks Trent. The smart function would add ??? (Can goggle but you may have short answer!). Would stepping up to 100hz future proof a bit more? Currently have 1998 Panasonic 'box'!! Still works fine though (and can access iview on it via PVR!).

        • +1

Smart will add things like Netflix & apps, 100Hz Is better for 4K & Gaming but to be honest personally I think it's overrated as I own 2 50hz which work fine :)

        • @TRENT86: many thanks Trent. Think access to Netflix might be worth it for down the track. Advice appreciated :-)

        • +1

@Hen: yeah but remember chromecast will do pretty much all of that too if you ever need it

        • +1

@TRENT86: oh! So that's what they're for?! And owning a chromecast would surely make me a fully fledged ozb member! (If bought for the 'right' price)

        • @Hen:

So long as you grab a packet or 2 of the obligatory chocolat eneloops at the "right" price Hen.

        • @Bullion78: LOL. I've passed that test bullion78! In fact have quite a few unopened packs so at least feel initiated :-)

My thoughts: I was looking at the Sony 40W700C but I think the 43" LG 4k is worth it because I'm into photography (yes I know it's not 4:4:4 but who can afford those?), and I am 100% certain I can see the resolution increase for photos at 7ft (already tested/proved on 27" monitors). Plus I find I often use the HTPC for general computing and I expect the higher res would make for clearer text. I feel $200 for the 4k, 100Hz, and of course the extra 3" is worth it to me.

The 680T seems to oscillate between being sold out and coming back in stock, roughly every 15 mins, so keep refreshing for them.

  • what are your thoughts on the LG 49UF680T? not many sources online where i can read about it

  • The Sony 60inch KDL60W600B was down to $998 at JB 12 months ago (here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176302), so doesn't seem like a great deal, especially now it is another year older. I'm surprised it's not cheaper.

    • Don't know why Sony remanufactured them, they sold out everywhere around Jan but they brought them back mid 2015, don't forget also the Aussie dollar has dropped big time since then :)

      • yeh i dont know why all manufactures bother actually changing their entry level models……the samsung and lg ones have been the same tv with a different model number for the last couple of years

    • As per my comment above it was down to $998 12 months ago. In saying that, my dad bought it then and the picture is pretty good, he loves it.

  • Looks like the 43" LG 4k is sold out

  • Hi guys have read the above but am torn
Sony 60" or Panasonic 55" or other tv 50" or above
Looking to spend only around the $1200 price inc delivery
Currently on an LG 50" HD - yep that crap res of 1366x768
Only real reason for upgrade is to increase resolution
If sound was better great (was using a sound bar but it is on the fritz after a storm)
Not fussed about gaming on it or smart tv features as I use a htpc and own a Chromecast (OzB!)
Leaning towards the Sony because of Sony name/rep and the extra inches
    Any thoughts?

    • +1

check to see if the Panasonic one you want has a twin tuner, that's the thing I like about Panasonic TV'S

    • I would go for Panasonic and consider getting new sound bar.

  • Sony KDL40W700C 40" - no stock in Melbourne
