Best TV deal of the year!!

    • how good are the Smart TV features when compared to the Samsungs and LG's ?

    • If it was a plasma it would be a great deal. Too bad.

      • why?

i find plasma is terrible in bright rooms.

        • +2

Agreed. But LCD is unnaturally bright and results in washed out colours.

        • -1

          @MrZ:

Most of the kid's console games are 'unnatural' anyway… :)

        • +1

i find plasma is terrible in bright rooms.

Obviously never seen the Samsung F8500 then ;-)

Not an issue at all in bright rooms.

          @MrZ:

These sony W series are excellent in dark rooms.

I beleive every year each retailer has a different sony model at a price point noone else usually matches,

    this year
the 60 inch goes to JB
the 40 inch to david jones https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176173

last years winner was TGG with a 50inch https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128189

Crazy price. Anyone that has no tv, please just buy this and ask question later.

    Binglee is $1199

  • reallly wish i didnt buy the 50inch for 800 few months ago

  • This or the 50" for $700? ummmm

    • LG 50LB5820 50" FHD SMART LED LCD TV $699

How big is your living room? I bought a 55" for a medium sized apartment and I ended up having to move my couch half a meter back just to view it properly. This is because if you watch standard definition channels, they look horrible on large screens unless you sit sufficiently far away. You really notice the blocky pixels when sitting close. I actually wish I bought a smaller TV but my ego got the better of me. There are online guides with suggested seating distance from the TV, I would recommend having a look.

  • Oh my god. I just bought it for $1199 from Dick smith couple days ago. What can I do? Any ideas?

    • Do you have price protection on your credit card?
Edit: Although that might only apply if the lower price is at the same retailer.

      • -1

        Different seller….
Can I ask them to give me the difference as I just got it for less than 2 days?

        • +1

There's no harm in asking, but I don't like your chances.

        • Different seller, I highly doubt it. But, doesn't hurt to try.

    • +2

Best thing to do is just go and enjoy your tv

There will always be better bigger cheaper

      • It is how I comfort myself, but just one day, 200 bucks gone

      http://www.dicksmith.com.au/techxpert-advice/price-matching

Dick Smith will match a competitor"s advertised price within 7 days of purchase if it complies with the conditions set out in the Price Matching Advertised Prices Policy.

      • Great news. Hopes it is gonna work. Thanks

  • This or the Panasonic TH-60A430A 60" FHD LED LCD TV for $999 for sale from Dick Smith? I have no idea so someone decide for me.

    Panasonic - http://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/tvs-projectors/led-lcd-…
    Sony - http://www.sony.com.au/product/kdl-60w600b

    pls respond.

    • This.

    • +2

Definitely the Sony. Sony LED/LCDs are almost always better than Panasonic.

      • +2

This model also has low input lag (reduces stuttering and blurring in gaming) comparable to w800s and good blacks. Well, better than Pana.

  • The difference between this and the 850B series?

    3D, which not an issue.

LED backlight? how does this effect picture quality?

The 600 has a far better viewing angle.

    Thanks.

    • Those doing research do take note the 60 inch w6 series uses a different (better, i would think) panel than on smaller size w600s. Panel made by Sharp.

  • Damn it…i ordered this yesterday price match to videopro 1233 (those folks have dropped to 1198 today)

    Hasnt even been delivered!

Grrr now i gotta go on Sat and try to convince them to give me a refund of difference (prob stuck with store credit)…guess i should just get the soundbar now…

    Grrrrrrrrr!

  • Was buying this on Saturday and the guy mentioned it was dropping under the 1K mark. Sweet deal!

  • +5

I wish my tv would break down right now so I cam justify buying this.

  • Damn. I just bought one from TGG (at what I thought was a killer price until I saw this) and had it delivered yesterday.

    • You should be able to get the difference via TGG 30 day price guarantee??

  • We bought this a couple of weeks ago at TGG and will be trying our luck for the price guarantee. A couple of things are against us though: bought it on the 4 years interest free; and there's a line in the t&c that Boxing Day "knockout" prices are not included (hopefully this only applies to their own pricing).

  • Could someone successfully haggle with the store for a better price on this ? If not the TV, may be on the sound bar ?

    • The soundbars are already on sale too! Both entry CT60 and mid range CT370 are already 50%. So is the soundstage XT1. But i think 60 inch stand is too wide for the base.

I managed to get $998 and free delivery worth $39 (long story: ordered in store monday but they said delivery next monday, in the mean time price dropped so i was unhappy about how long delivery is taking and now same item is cheaper and i hadnt even gotten mine… So asked to cancel delivery order and i was gonna buy one in store right away and get it right now. But the courier has already picked it up so i have to wait till monday, so for my waiting for delivery instead of refunding delivery manager said this was an exception not the norm so refunded my delivery too).

Great service by Chris @ Hornsby store.

      • Yeah, 300 W was up for 220 something.I figured my living room isn't that big so I will just live it with the TV's speakers for now and buy them soundbars another day another deal.

  • Finally!
The magical 60"-brand-name-LED-TV-under-$1000 goal has finally been reached in human history.
I feel so touched and I wish everyone a Merry Xmas & Happy New Year!!

    • that one's refurbished

  • Looking at the product images on the Sony website, on the side on picture this LED seems to have some depth about it. Is it array LED? Anyone that has one already, or seen one in the shops, able to confirm the depth?

    http://www.sony.com.au/product/kdl-60w600b

Bargain TV though, I also would recommend this one over the Panasonic $999 at Dick Smith, much better features and more connections on this Sony.

    • Not much info on aus model 60w600 but in europe 60w605 (they name it different) confirmed it is backlit not edge lit like 55inch or below of same w600 series.

Dimming is still frame dimming tho.

  • i just bought one of these online. I want to pick it up on Saturday which is the first day the store is open, do you think that would be possible? Has anyone had experience with JB Hifi online orders, are they quick to process the orders for boxing day?

    • Most stores open on Sat. I doubt they can process it in time. Yoy have better chance going in and pick it up (if they have stock) then cancel the online order once you have this baby home.

      • Do you mean there is a chance JBHifi may not process all online orders because they sold all their stocks in the store?

        • No i just meant of you want it quickly eg.Sat. then just buy in store. Match online price. Then cancel order.

  • 2 weeks ago I bought 60" Hitachi which I thought it was a good deal ($804+$65 shipping):
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174176
I've never opened the box so bought this one and returning the Hitachi.

  • Bing Lee has the Sony KDL55W800B 55" FHD Smart 3D LED for $905 under new deals

"Available same day (if ordered and approved before 10am)"

which would be the same as ordering today or tomorrow when they are closed. they will process it saturday morning.

A tad cheaper (or similar for dyslexic people) at Good Guys for $989

    • +1

Plus get 50$ store credit if u buy online before 8 a.m. tomorrow i.e. 26th december

  • Anyone know if PLEX works on this Sony TV??

  • +2

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/sony-60-inches152cm-fhd-led-lc…

Good guys dropped their price to $989 with a $50 gift card.

    • I sent JB a quick email using the https://www.jbhifi.com.au/General/Contact-Us/

with the order number asking if they can price match the $9 back to me as store credit since technically the order is not complete as yet to pick it up due to them being closed.

    • I believe the $50 store credit deal is for orders placed before 8am today.

  • is it better to get 4k tv? for future proofing - games, movies etc…

also how does 1080p TV look on 4k?

How does bluray movies look on 4k tv?

    • There simply isnt enough 4k content to justify a 4k tv IMO.
      1080p on a 4k tv looks like 1080p on a 1080p tv

      • If you use computer then UHD makes sense. Lovely having 60 inch @ 2160p

Otherwise free to air and even blueray, there isn't enough uhd content as nick said

      • yes, but what about future proofing?

else when 4k gets popular we need to buy another TV

        • You don't need to buy another tv.

        • No 4K media anytime in near future. Likely never any 4K TV broadcasting in Australia. So what are the options then?

        • @MrZ:

yes but I am seeing more 4k blurays coming out

          also gaming in 4k

          youtube has 4k content now

so free to air won't have 4k for a while
          but other source will

        • @ozhunter:

u do if u want to see the 4k content in it's native resolution

        • @tyler.durden:

4K Blu-ray is still at least a year away. Will be expensive when they first come out - no point in buying until well into 2016.

        • @tyler.durden:

Well yea. For the content that is out now and in the near feature I'd prefer a larger full HD over a smaller UHD tv.

        • +1

          @ozhunter:

With the prices free falling (maybe its bc of xmas) by the time the mediums offer UHD content i would bet the tvs will be cheaper and better featured than the UHD units now.

Hence i opt to go with FHD for now.

        • @hippo2s:

but you will need to buy another TV

        • @tyler.durden:

And how is that a bad thing? you get to spend even more hours researching what features and which brand has the best features you need, I'd be willing to bet the UHD TV in 2 or 3 year's time will be even more accessible, technologically advanced and gives you better bang for your buck.

And you end up with two TVs! One for the man-cave you've always wanted to build.

Put the extra money in a bank account to earn some interest in the mean time! :p

        • @hippo2s:

Actually next years models are gonna be android TVs + 4K

It will be interesting next year…

  • Anyone able to confirm the dimensions of the box?

Wondering whether it will fit in my Camry with the seats down or if I'll need to bring a van.

    • It fits into my toyota kluger. 1.5m x 0.92m x 0.21m and 26kg.

      • Thanks. We ended up taking the van just to be safe and was actually surprised it only weighed 26kg. Set it up and works great.

  • Jb are out of stock across Victoria, probably nation wide. I got mine price matched at Appliance online. $998 delivered tomorrow. Videopro and TGG are out of stock too.

    • Today morning there were still 2 units at Hornsby JB.

All the CT370 (there was like 10 yesterday morning) are gone and even the demo unit is gone.

      • Just noticed the item has been removed from JB's site. Definitely sold out online - people should order from other sites.
