Ordered one, need it for my PS4! Thanks OP.

  • Hmmm wonder if it has USB ports? Can't seem to find anything online to state whether it does or not.
Can this be wall mounted? Ie… that silver bracket on the bottom of the TV can be removed?

Also doesn't seem to allow pick up in VIC stores, looks like you have to wear the $65 delivery charge :-/

Edit: it does have a USB port
    Inputs
    HDMI 3
    PC & Audio 1
    Composite 1
    Component 1
    USB Input 1

Only question now is, can you remove the bracket on the bottom

  • not available in my area, no postage option….tried on a smaller appliance and there was a postage option…

  • Does anyone have this model and can comment on the quality and any positive/negative impressions?

  • Sorry - this item is currently unavailable in the quantity you have selected

  • Can this be ordered online and picked up in store?

    • I ordered it in store and pickup Monday with same price and myer gift card.

      • That's great. Can you share an order receipt or something? Will try today.

  • unavailable. Expired I guess. Did anybody else get to buy it? No local pickup, checked in Sydney store, they do not carry this model.

    • I brought it… called Myer about the bracket (can it be removed?) they didn't know.. also left a message with Hitachi about it.

Myer confirmed that only 4 are in store in WA… but plenty for delivery for some reason… strange! maybe too big to cart to stores, then charge people for shipping from the store as well

But I went out on a limb and got it either way.. I haven't a seen a nice looking thin bezel 60' TV at this price before!

      • Stand can be removed (page 5 of user manual).
Can also be wall mounted (page 6 of user manual)

  • Good price for a japanese TVs.

Hitachi TVs sold in Australia are not made in Japan but they are made in China. They are just a generic TV from China and re-branded with the Hitachi brand name slapped on it. Hitachi doesn't actually manufacture TV's in house any more.

        • What does Wiki mention about it?
hollykryten is absolutely correct with every point, check out the official Hitachi Australia site and you will see they no longer support most consumer electrical items.

  • I think Hitachi are made in China now

  • +1

what's not made in china these days :(

    • A quality product!!!

  • Just accept it, it's freaking cheap this

    • Cheap doesn't necessarily mean good. Cheap can mean awful. You could buy this, find out that it's awful and be kicking yourself wishing you bought some thing that wasn't crap. And then your friends and family come around and comment on how bad the TV screen looks. And then be stuck with a large and heavy item that is hard to rid of.

  • Does anyone happen to know what the panel refresh rate and the warranty period is?

  • General Info
    Brand Hitachi
    Model No. VZ604000
    Packaged Weight 27.5kg
    Packaged Dimensions 32cm x 135cm x 85cm
    Warranty 1 year
    Cat No. GE6971

  • Does anyone know the energy star rating or annual power consumption? It says TBA on their website.

    • ~Power usage of the other 6000 and 5000 series LEDs in 50 and 55" are <50w. I would expect this is probably around the same.~
Edit: Power consumption in manual is 165w

  • Shame i can't see one. A poor remote and bad ui can ruin a smart TV. Wouldnt want to take that risk.

Having no power figures is questionable.

  • No Seconds thoughts…Just jumped at bought one. 60 Inch branded TV at this price is Crazy..

Okay folks.. your gonna love me (long time!)… I've made a load of calls and managed to get hold of a soft copy of the user manual which should give us more info and explain a few more things..

I've put it on this site - http://www.filedropper.com/hitachivz604000im

Feel free to download and have a look :@)
    Hope it's useful!

    • Thanks, looks like its 12ms and 50Hz… contrast ratio: 5000, hopefully it will be fine to play ps4 on it

    • Thanks for the manual ezza, someone mentioned the warranty as 1 year, but it looks as though it is 2 years as mentioned page 6 of the manual.

      • And the stand is removable ..

    • Can someone please help me interpreting the power consumption of 165W shown in the manual. Is that a lot of TV's of this size? Would translate into 3,4,5 stars? I tried to find out if I can install Netflix as an app, but that does not seem to be the case.

      • netflix has really old content i couldnt even find movies released on Bluray a few months back. i think i am gonna give presto a go.

        • Fair enough. I guess my point is that this Hitachi seems constrained by not being able to add new apps such as Samsung does. Not a deal breaker, but requires me to continue to Roku Netflix and Plex. An ideal TV to me would have Roku built in, I have seen TVs in the US. Is the 50 Hz OK or is that really not enough for such a big TV? I am just not enough of an expert.

      • 4 stars (old rate) / 498.0 kwh/annum average $129 per year
        Found it:
        http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/32/s…

      • 165w seems par for the course for a 60" my 47" lg uses about 80w. But thats with spefic settings. Like 165w would be backlight and brightness maxed out.

  • Dynamic Contrast Ratio: Mega Contrast

what the hell does that mean?!

    • marketing BS, the manual states contract ratio is 5000:1, which is dynamic. So more accurately around 1000:1 Static.

For anyone that needs it, I phoned Hitachi and got them to send me the manual, here it is:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/m2fdkdn3tqjpcpf/HITACHI%20VZ604000…

It appears it is wall mountable, however the manual doesn't state what VESA standard it uses.

    • Maybe you should have asked Hitachi what VESA standard size it uses while you were on the phone?.

    • Ummm I posted this above…

  • All is good until I see the crappy interface of the smart tv… surely I don't need to use it, Chromecast, Ruko etc

but what a put off, looks like something out of a generic dvd menu!

    • Well after all Hitachi TV's sold in Australia are really generic Chinese made TV's with the licensed Hitachi band name slapped on it. So you'd expect a generic TV interface. Because a business operating in Australia (Tempo Aust) is licensing out the Hitachi band name and importing generic TV's from China and putting the Hitachi name on it. So you'd expect a generic TV quality when buying this.

If you want a TV with a fancy Smart TV interface with all the extras go some thing like a Samsung TV.

      • LG with WebOS :)

In saying that, that's still alot of tv for that price.

        • +1

I suppose. But it still really is a generic quality TV with the Hitachi name slapped on it. At least others like Samsung or LG make their own TVs with higher quality panels and parts.

The panel from this Hitachi TV is probably second rate.

  • +1

Wow. This TV is $1,199 at Dick Smith. What a rip.

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/hitachi-60-fhd-led-tv-dsau-g…

  • what a disaster Myer doesnt let you use giftcards online… bleh

    • They never have. I find it ironic that Myer gift cards are sold here at places like Australia Post but you can't use them on the Myer online store and the nearest Myer store is hundreds of kilometers away in Mackay.

For whatever reason Myer refuses to allow their own gift cards to be used on the Myer online store is any ones guess. Stupid policy really because they would be losing online sales out of it.

      • Agreed I too have loads of Myer vouchers.
At least with DJ you can use them online

        • To be fair DJ's only started accepting gift cards online in the last month or so. I believe Myer's intend on having this functionality soon on there website or so they tell me via their facebook page.

I would rather this LG 40" 4K Ultra HD TV for $779 over this Hitachi TV any day. At least LG manufacture their own TVs with high quality panels. There's a reason why this LG TV won the best TV of 2014 award. It would rule over the Hitachi TV featured in the topic here.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174293

    • Pffft. A 4k 40" may "rule" as a desktop monitor, but not as a loungeroom tv at normal watching distances.

      • Though alright if you need a TV for a bedroom. 40" is about the right size for that.

I would like to weigh in here a post a comment on TV brands like Hitachi, Telefunken, Grundig et cetera.
These were all good solid venerable brands back in their day or decade, but have since been sold to marketing companies selling generic product of variable quality these days.
If a company MAKES their own product I have respect for them. I have not seen this particular TV or brand recently in the flesh, but would recommend that one looks at Hisense, TCL or Changhong as an option. At least they are real brands making their own stuff.

  • So is there anything that comes close to this TV in the 60"+ category around this price?

EDIT: and I noticed Myer state to allow 7-14 days for delivery!! Geeez is that accurate?

  • Got the email from Myer saying its shipped ;@)
Doesn't look there is a delay on these!

  • I received the tv this morning and ordered it yesterday morning, I won't have a chance to review until tonight but hopefully it will work well with the PS4… super fast delivery!

    • Any review please

  • ordered one last night, and will be delivered next tuesday in sydney

  • The page isn't loading on Myers website anymore…I thought I'd missed out but went onto the mobile site and was able to purchase….fingers crossed I got in.

  • yep same… got a call its coming in 30 mins..

wtf this is the quickest i've seen in myer delivery!

Edit: Bang delivered! all within 30 hrs geee :):):)

    • Thanks for keeping us posted how you like it. Photos? Impressions?

    • How was it?

  • +2

First impressions not so good when comparing it to my 55" Samsung smart tv, the picture is darker and the blu rays are not as clear as on the Samsung. Ps4, fifa15 to be exact plays nicely and no trailing lag. Playing BBC nature blue ray now and there its quiet nice, Ive just realised that sitting 2M away from the tv doesnt help, 3m away and its much better. Overall the tv is worth every penny, blacks are similar to plasmas and better than the Sammy, browser seems quicker also, I dont think there is a google like store so not sure how im going to play netflix, maybe through browser. I am having some issues setting up wifi…definitely worth the $$$

    • thanks for sharing, yes, it is better sitting more than 3 meters for such a big screen TV, just not sure the warranty as the manual says 2 yrs but myer may give only 1 yr

  • Just bought this today from Myer at Miranda, and was expecting something at least passable, though not excellent, but the first impression, to echo that of another commenter, was one of, well it couldn't be this bad, there must be something wrong. On default settings, people's skin is orange, as in virtually orange juice orange. Eventually by adjusting picture settings a picture was obtained which showed, people - rather important in films - looking more realistically coloured. Colour was turned down to 32/100, and contrast up marginally to 56/100. Relief finally, but it was premature.

Running movie a little further, in a cinematically beautiful outdoor scene of pool with slate tile, the pool had almost no blue in it at all, managing only a bland white, and the slate had no detail, again just whitewashed. As a result of 4% increase in contrast? No, it's not a setting problem, the TV is a dud. Suitable in my estimation perhaps for young kids to watch cartoons or for commercial use to show ads in hallways or information in airports.

What amazes me is that Hitachi, and Myer for that matter, thinks it could get away with showing poor quality rendering of film on such a large screen without people noticing and complaining. And surely they could do better than first impressions of orange people. They're taking consumers for mugs.

As well, the screen running from a Macbook Pro DVI cable intermittently goes black, or shows noise, which didn't happen with the previous Toshiba TV or with any computer monitors attached to it. Also encountered problems with HDMI. Seems to be unstable in accepting and holding the signal.

The purchase experience was odd too, in that the screen was only in 2 Myer stores, Miranda and Liverpool I was told by Bankstown, but it turned out the one in Liverpool was broken. Then Myer Liverpool said actually Myer no longer stocks Hitachi, so you cannot get it anywhere (contrary to the unit being available in Miranda and being listed in Myer's online catalogue). Then!… Miranda tells me the unit they have is the first one they've received so lucky to get, and the model we got was intended as their display model, which hadn't been set up, 10 days before Xmas, and it was their only unit of it. I'm sure the sales profession must be stressful, but you'd think they could do better than that.

Intend to return the TV to Myer or else will complain to Fair Trading. I'm not interested in watching it at all, as it deteriorates picture quality so much. A great disappointment heading into Xmas.

(Afterwards friend commented that it's not that bad watching a serial TV show, but on checking myself faces still looking abnormally orange.)

    • +1

whats myers return policy? if i opened the box and not happy about the Quality ? can i return it without trouble?

      • Showed them the screen in store, the orange faces, and pink snow from Grand Budapest Hotel, the problem was acknowledged, though in shop assistants opinion, necessarily conservative, it was slight. Personally I have little tolerance for orange faces. Then played the same clips on a number of other tv's, and found the same problem to varying degrees to my astonishment. Until the Samsung ultra hd 55", retail price there for 2229 but about 20% less with Myer discount. It gave a rendering of the film that did the film justice - a pleasure to look at. Myer gave credit for the Hitachi tv - picture quality just too continuously underwhelming to watch despite appealing size. And considering getting either the Samsung uhd 55" (55hu7000), or as yet unseen enhanced full hd Samsung 60" (60h7000), or 60" LG for around 2050 with LG cash back. Considerably higher price but worth it to get a decent picture.

  • Good price for 60" TV but 50hz? no way…. not worth it.

    • Thought it was just me but glad you thought so.

  • just for anyone still looking to buy this. please dont. its incredible waste of money. nothing works.
    1. playing channel ten, there is ghost shadows when the picture is fast moving.
    2. connect to my sony HTS, you loose control of the TV. eventhough TV volume is on you cant control it…
    3. media player doesnt have any DLNA function, looks like you can only play from usb stick, not sure whats the use of wifi..

I had my sony 50" side by side for comparison and this TV pales in comparison. Returned mine to Myer and got the money back.

  • it is 120hz
