    • OP, change link and store to this.

    • nice! i would actually spend 25$ more on something so you get 100$ store credit

    • +1

      That's our tv man

  • +3

It's funny how DSE claims it is "$370 off" when the retail price is $949 from LG
    http://www.lg.com/au/tvs/lg-40UB800T

    • +4

Well it is $370 off, $370 less than what we would put it up for on ebay for on the 20% off weekend;) ????

      • +3

They are usually around $799 at most places except dick smith

      • -3

        Who is "we"?

    • This sort of thing should be brought to the attention of the ACCC

  • I bought this for $629 shipped from appliances online via eBay with the recent sale - great TV and remote.

  • combine this with AMEX deals at david jones for even more goodness!, 5x AMEX cards for another $150 off

    • How much did you end up paying for it ?

      • i haven't done it but $779 = $750 (5 x $150) + 29, and it's get $30 off each $150 you spend, so it would be the same price as what robbie613 paid after 5 amexes split transaction is complete ($629)

  • Silly question, does blurays improve on a 4K screen?
Or will I have to start buying 4K blurays?

    • need to buy 4k content mate, most br is 1080p

      • -6

        U wot m8

      • 1080p is max for blu-ray - some are lower, like many of the BBC boxsets of nature documentaries shot with a 720p camera.

        • 4K blu-ray is supposed to be coming towards the end of next year. So 1080p might be the max at the moment, but won't be forever.

        • @fatpizza:
true, but I think the question was about the current format / existing library.

      • Most UHD TV upscales and generate the additional pixels needed with an algorithm. Not mindblowing, but its good enough to blend in the pixels from 1080

  • Is there any digital broadcasting in 4k?

    • +14

Is there any digital broadcasting in 4k?

There's nothing broadcasting in Full-HD! ( or we'd miss out on those home shopping channels and gilligans island re-runs)

      • Let me know when Ginger and Maryanne are available in 4K please!

    • +6

There is in Japan! But in Australia - no chance. They don't even broadcast 1080p on the HD channels as it is!

    • +2

Netflix announced, just yesterday, that they'll be offering 4K content, in Australia, from April next year.

      • +5

too bad we got NBN fail

        • +3

don't you mean '… we got MTM (multi-technology mix) fail'? That's because some (monopolized) infrastructure just shouldn't be updated.

      • -1

When I tried Netflix the bitrate of their 720p was horrible. I hope they have improved.

    • +6

We didn't even get the Afl Grand Final in 720p. What a joke

  • +1

Seeing that TGG is cheaper, someone ought to neg this to get it off the front page. I'll make a start.

  • +2

what the? is 4k really this cheap now??

    • +11

Well there is really little use for it so price gouging us is proving a little more difficult.

      • Ah it's so true. We have the power. Don't buy it and prices will drop.

      • Harvey Norman bought airtime to push 3D. I reckon makers and retailers can buy some 4K Netflix time next year - just long enough to get into headlines.

  • +1

This does seem pretty cheap for 4k. Any quality 55" or bigger 4k around $1500?

    • LG 55UB850T and Samsung 55HU7000. I am in the market for one too.

  • TGG is cheaper.

  • +1

    Wow isn't 4K TVs getting cheaper. 40" 4K for $779?.

It's just a pity that no TV channel broadcasts on 4K and there's currently no 4K blu-ray player or movie on the market.

    • +9

      #pcmasterrace

  • +4

Unless you're planning on sitting 1m or less away from this TV, the 4k resolution will be wasted with this screen size, even if you are able to get your hands on enough 4k content.

  • +1

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lg-40-inches101cm-uhd-led-lcd-…
$775 at The Good Guys, and if you collect it in store you get $40 store credit

    • +1

      ah, no, it's definitely 4K

    • +1

      smh

  • you could get a up-scaling to 4k bluray player and see if any difference..

    Read this article :-)

    http://www.cnet.com/news/why-4k-tvs-are-stupid/

    • Sure that's a joke article?

      • +4

cnet is a joke, so yes

  • Docked around.

  • This might be the wrong place to ask, but for fellow 4k TV owners, is there actually any 4k content out there? I can only find the occasional remastered bluray torrent, XXX clip or youtube clip. Other than that, is there any quality content which I can't seem to find?

new phones are recording in 4k… go video your neighbour's dog

      • that bitch might report you if you get caught peeping

        • Don't worry, her bark is worse than her bite.

    • Netflix has some 4k (Season 2 of House of Cards).

    • BTW: wasn't the bay shut down a few days ago? Mind sharing where the pirates congregate now?

      • +1

        kickass.to?

  • Gonna add a neg. Cheaper else where and really it's a standard price these days

  • Anyone steamed netflix through chromecast on one of these 4k tv's.. Whats your opion if you are.
I see the ub800t isn't supported on netflix but the ub850t is, why's this.

  • Seems like Dicksmith keeps putting the same things on "sale" over and over again. Predications Myer and DJ's might have early Boxing Dau sales before Christmas.
Plus this cheaper at TGG. http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2014/dec/10/david-hicks-h…

  • Can you use dick smiths gift voucher in Myer/David Jones?

    • +1

No. Why would they Myer and DJ is not owned by Dick Smith.

That's like asking if you can use a Kmart gift voucher at Big W.

      • +1

I think the reason why he was asking is because either Myer or David Jones have Dick Smith have their products selling in those stores within the electronics/entertainment sections, labelled as "Powered by Dick Smith" or something to that effect.

  • +1

Think it's gone from the front page now. Here's helping

    • Thanks for the help.

  • +3

Never liked Gizmodo but since they've become a shill for DSE I've blocked them at the router.

  • Not really a deal if it's cheaper elsewhere.

  • Cheaper at TGG

  • Hisense 50K1320UW is $797 for a smart 50", 4k, 3 year warranty and does Mirracast and casts youtube from chrome using Googlecast.
    Very pleased with it.
Looked at the LG but it looks really small next to a 50" or our old 42" (big frame).

  • Does this work well as a pc monitor?

  • I actually wanted to buy this TV as a computer monitor. For gaming it's great, but for web browsing/reading, it's very poor, almost unusable due to the fact it doesn't display the full 4:4:4 colour space over it's HDMI port. This may have been because of the HDMI cable I was using, but either way, there's proper 4K monitors coming in at the same price point very soon that will work properly.

  • +1

Dont forget that LG spys on you when you buy one of their smart tv's (eg uploading lists of what your watching)

    • -2

What have you got to hide unless you're pirating movies and don't want LG knowing.

      • +4

I am, LG should learn that snitches get stitches!

      • I dont want them knowing what political programs I watch, what genres of movies. nothing is illegal but they dont need to know.

      • +2

Maybe I don't want LG to know just how much midget porn I watch. Just because someone may have something to hide doesn't mean they're necessarily doing anything illegal. And yes, that is stating the obvious, but for some reason it seems to remain necessary to state the obvious.

  • -2

    best selling at the moment

  • pretty cheap

  • as above, cheaper at the good guys by a few dollars.

  • even the google adverts on this page show the good guys cheaper price.

  • +2

I have nothing to add to this conversation.
Just stopped by to read why a post got 10…wait now 11 negs.

    Now I know.

    That is all…

    • Probably because at the time TGG had it for $775 so people were negging. But it doesn't matter now that TGG has raised their price to $779 which exactly matches Dick Smith.
