Basically Smartflix allows you to access any Netflix content from any country.

It's currently in beta so it is free.

After beta mode it will be a one month free trial and then $7.99 for a lifetime subscription.

YOU NEED A NETFLIX ACCOUNT TO USE IT

I only learnt about it yesterday and gave it a try and absolutely loved it! If you thought your one country Netflix was already an endless scroll wait until you open up this app. It's super easy to use and I encourage you all to give it a try.

Just a little tip the app will let you browse through the catalogue but nothing will load unless you click on account and login to your Netflix account.

          While I don't disagree with your concern, what would be the point? If he sells that app for $7.99 he has 70 million potential customers. If he only sells it to 1%, that is a revenue of over $5.5 million. The running costs he has are probably not that extremely high. And if it really takes off, he is set for life.

          In my case he would get my email address and a password that I exclusively use for Netflix. No phone number is entered, no nothing.

    Hi, new to this and have a quick question.
    When I watch movies not available in Australian Netflix the quality is not so great.
    Is this because it is routed a different way?
    I currently have about 5-6 mbps and I can view HD movies on Netflix Australia but doesn't seem to work anywhere else?
    Anyone else experience this problem with quality?

      Had similar issues until the bandwidth increased (on NBN, with kids watching YouTube). Once they were taken out of the equation, the quality was there.

      Maybe not enough bandwidth? Considering it would be streaming through OS servers?

        Possibly but also possible there is some limitations or restrictions with the peering towards netflix in USA. I swear Telstra are up to some sneaky stuff from my experience and others on whirlpool.

      Dunno if it is a bandwidth issue. I'm on BigPond cable 100 Mbps and watched edge of tomorrow from Netflix Denmark last night. Really dark in the climatic scene. I just presumed that the inbuilt player and in the smartflix.app wasn't performing that great yet.

        I have the same issue but using Firefox via uFlix.

        If I turn off the uFlix service, everything from Aus NetFlix is great, content is in HD, I can track back and forwards through the episode/movie and it loads really quickly.
        If I use any other country NetFlix it taks a long time to buffer to HD, sometimes won't switch to HD at all. If I want to track to a different time in the stream (back or forwards a few seconds, minutes) it can take a minute-ish to load and start playing agian… and then I have to wait ages for HD to buffer again.

        I'm also using BigPond 100Mbps. I've also run speed tests to random US servers and get terrible ping (150 to 250 ms) but down speed is still pretty good at 45 to 85Mbps. I can't understand why it behaves so poorly when not using AU service.

          I had a speed issues with uFlix. Try a trail service with Getflix or similar. It may work better

          Im on TPG ADSL with link speed about 14000kbit, and download about 1.5MB/s. Experience is the same as yours. AU netflix and straight up to 5800kbit 1080p within seconds, at most a minute during heavy peak times. Anything overseas very seldom goes to HD. US and Canada probably the best, worst is Spain or EU countries. I use GetFlix. I think it is the pearing agreements of the ISP and a poor international link. I've given up. All I do is reset the router and hope for the best. Sometimes Canada and US go to 3000kbit 720p and seldom 4300kbit 1080p, only ever a couple times seen it sustain 5800kbit 1080p.

          Hopefully with netflix further expanding their updated codecs and bitrates that theyre trialling in Canada, to other regions, it should help this issue

      Netflix in most browsers (this uses chrome) is limited to 720p. Most dedicated players would support 1080p and would look a lot better.

      The Windows 10 Netflix app supports 1080p as well, but the you'd lose access to the entire catalogue.

    Aus Netflix is free zone on iiNet. When I use Getflix and change to their DNS on my router the usage counts against my quota. Seems to be the case for both foreign and Aus Netflix content.

    Will this do the same?

      Probably. iinet would be no longer reading the Netflix OZ address when you are streaming through the smartflix.app

    This is great. I'm also using it in tandem with this other website which allows me to browse via suggested tags/categories, filters, and even has 'playlists' you can browse or create and share. I had some fun browsing which content is unique to only one region.

    Installed, tested and it works great, so much easier than chopping and changing DNS and region settings within Getflix or the router.

    The only reason I won't continue using it is that we never watch Netflix on the PC as we already have 4 other devices connected to TV's throughout the house. If and/or when this app is available for more devices I most certainly will use it but if you are happy to watch or cast this from your PC or run a HDMI to your TV I'd highly recommend it.

    This will count towards your monthy data quota though… so if you were on iinet and enjoying quota-free Netfilx, this will cost you (a lot) of data.

    I guess that viewing non-AU content thru this app will be counted as metered quota on Internode etc. But what about viewing AU content that was unmetered? Will it still be unmetered thru the app?

    I currently smash moreflicks and frequently change between the regions; I have noticed, as great as this app is, with some TV Shows Family Guy as popular example are drawn from the US netflix. IF you switch over the France Netflix, they have all the family guy including season 13, but Smartflix only show the US up to season 12.

      Try through a standalone computer through a browser, connect to tv. Many problems solved vs. Chromecast, ATV etc. Possible to still have easy usability with some thought.

    Nope. One Netflix subscription will cover you for all available regions but you need to use a SmartDNS service to switch everytime you change region which will cost you extra but with Smartflix you currently won't have that additional cost and it will start streaming the required region without the hassle.

    Works really well and very quick to setup and use.

    The quality isn't as sharp as on TV but apparently this is due to chrome not being able to handle 1080p, so everything is streamed in 720p (according to what the program's creator wrote on Reddit). The browser isn't Chrome, but is chrome-based.

    The selection is mindblowing.

      If you are on Mac, Safari offers 1080p viewing of Netflix. Unfortunately for me there seems to be bug where Safari/Netflix will change the grey/black scale intermittently so I stick to Chrome.

    Nice one OP, although I won't be using it as I watch on Chromecast. Just to note the point about the $8 lifetime after the free trial is struck out. I guess there's no commitment for them to offer that - after beta. I'm guessing the offer may change after beta. Anyway, nothing to lose for those finding benefit now.

    Yeah I've got problems with the streaming as well. I've got bigpond cable, usually download at 2 to 3 mbps and Aussie Netflix is crystal clear HD, but the resolution is horrid on this smartflix app.

    Any ideas?

    This is awesome.

    But the more ease it takes to unblock services using apps and unblock services like these, I'm a little worried that Netflix is going to get pushed by the content providers to "do something about it, or else".

    At the moment it's quite clear they don't care about it and are doing the minimal effort they can, (after all, it means more subscribers), but I'll bet the content providers who sell / pay for the rights to play content in different regions are having shit-fits about cross-region play.

    My advice? Enjoy it while it lasts!

    watched favourite programme only US Netflix last night. Seemed to be quite a bit stuttery at times and also would freeze and lag, the voices didnt match the mouth movements…..this was also at 2am, when I could presume there is low internet usage.

    What i could watch was so easy to use and set up and the access was great.
