  • How does that gift card work out? It takes $25 off each $100? I'm confused.

    • Don't know, but it did work :D

      • +1

Thank you, I'm less confused now <3

        • Glad that I could share your confusion :)

It is certainly a bit confusing - be nice if they actually told your what the coupon did! ;) Looks like once you spend more than around $225 on an order, that discount coupon takes $25 off of every item in your order. So if you get two $100 gift cards, and something else worth $30, you get a 3 x $25 discount applied. If you order 5x$100 gift cards, you get a $125 discount.

So it will be better to buy $50 gift cards lol

Edit: I tried it and it actually worked. 10x $50 gift cards for $250 http://imgur.com/UPFiGEb

wow it does work. interested to know also if the cards can be combined for a single transaction in store.
bummer there not egift type cards.
did you end up purchasing the 10x50 ?
just wondering if they will cancel it as i went ahead with it… :O
          thanks 4 tip off though

@shonofear: I tried to call their Blackburn store to find out if they will accept multiple gift cards for one purchase, but my call wasn't answered. I will try again tomorrow.

I didn't buy yet since I am yet to confirm :)

          @Jimmy007:
hey i called Port then, yep they combine :P
yay, he said only promotion codes or other type vouchers don't stack, but the red gift cards from site do, hope he's right

        • @shonofear: Thanks I will buy some now :D

        • lol… what did I start! Yup… better to get lots of smaller cards if that was what you wanted than big ones - discount on each card rather than a single one on the one big card. Gotta take the bargain when you find it! I can fully understand 99bikes decision to cancel the promotion, as it was a bit of a bit whoopsie. I just hope the alternative they offered was a reasonable alternative, otherwise there will be a few irate customers.

        • @pfeerick: They cancelled everything, and offered nothing in return. Was actually in the market for a new bicycle, and have moved on to elsewhere. I would have ended up getting less than 25% off, but they couldn't wear that it seems. C'est la vie.

        • @DrC: So the "25JAN225" code that was in the email Thespottedcow mentioned below didn't give you any discounts at all? That's just rude! As it looked like they provided a code that worked properly for orders over $225 that was valid until the 24th of Jan.

      • I was thinking if we buy something that costs $25 x 9 or more, it might become free after coupon code :D

Edit: I tried it and it worked as well http://imgur.com/TurJrPs

  • I don't think they'd be able to sell gift cards for real money only to say they had to be used in single transactions. That makes very little sense.

  • Code is no longer valid - I ended up getting $100 gift cards, nice work on the $50 ones!

    • +1

it still works for me on $50 cards

  • Maybe you can only use it once and I blew it on $100 cards

    • +1

try using different account/IP/Device/Details? or get your friend to order for you lol

      • +1

That worked - thanks for the deal Jimmy…legend. Think it is gone now, and there are very few $50 cards available anyway

        • That's good to know that it worked for you:) would be a good price on whatever you buy :D

  • hey, just wondering do they have bike sales often? or even some 2nd hand/cheaper ex-demo bike at some shops?
i guess could always get all the apparel and parts or even bike services done using the gift cards?
    well, soon find out anyways

      • thanks,
would need to do another round of gift cards to even close to those price for a great deal but I won't be doing that, but these still may get cancelled, will see… I think i will buy 2nd hand then maybe get a service from the workshop for $99- with club membership, then get other bits n bobs over time. This could be a good use of the gift cards over time (actually they expire after 12 months i believe, so could only get x2 6 month service $198-)
this is all based on actually receiving the cards :P

  • Can't bring myself to do this one.

    • respect, i do feel a bit bad about taking advantage of this deal… should I

    • I've decided it's fair if I buy actual items. But not gift cards.

What do people think of these products (I'm about to start cycling for the first time):

      Lock:
      http://www.99bikes.com.au/lock-abus-u-bolt-ultimate-420-230
Not sure which Abus this is? They have varying degrees of strength.

      Front light:
      http://www.99bikes.com.au/light-front-light-and-motion-urban…
Because it's got the side lighting, and I'm thinking I'll need about 225 lumens to see the footpath? (Don't know what people are doing with more powerful ones unless mountain biking?)

      http://www.99bikes.com.au/asssaver-foldable-mudguard-black
Do they work vs mudguards? Mudguards and the ass-saver both effectively free with the coupon..

      • That Abus lock is a good visual deterrent, with medium level security - rated at 10/15 on the Abus scale, and Solid Secure Silver in independent testing. Here's the Abus product page. It's certainly good enough for everyday use. Just be aware a serious thief will get through any lock, even ones that cost twice this much. How and where you lock your bike are as important as which lock you choose… the best advice is to make your bike look less tempting than the one next to it! So if this lock looks like too much trouble to mess with compared to a $10 k-mart lock on the next bike, then your bike will be left alone. Add in a cable as well, looped through the wheels, and it can help deter opportunistic thieves. Most 99bikes stores also stock this exact lock with cable included, even though it's not online. Here's the product link. So you could get yourself a $100 voucher instead and put that towards buying a lock in-store, assuming there is a store near you.

My opinion on lights is that the high powered ones are very annoying for everyone else (including other riders) and all you need is something that flashes to actually be seen. You don't need to burn retinas everywhere you go in order to be safe. That light is plenty bright enough to see the road ahead… but so would a light with half the lumens.
For casual/commuting riding on urban streets, I think that this kind of light is great. Run on flash mode day or night, and people will see you without hurting their eyes. If you are riding on paths away from street lighting, then you will need something with a directional beam like the one you have chosen here. Good luck ;)

Can't help you with the mudguard, but you may as well give it a go.

…also my apologies for the rambling reply, I'm a bit delirious at having my own headspace after a hectic morning with energetic toddlers up at 5am.

A last thought, if you're unsure what to get because it's all a bit new and confusing, the staff at most 99 stores are friendly and can give good advice. Maybe call a store today and see what they say? The cycling culture gets a bit nuts… Cycling types can be opinionated and a bit much to take, so when you find friendly (and genuine) help it makes a big difference.

        • Thanks for the link and input.

I found the lock way cheaper on wiggle, meaning I'm having trouble hitting $225 now :) Oh well.

          http://www.wiggle.co.uk/abus-ultimate-d-lock-230mm/

Also, I'm not a serious cyclist, so I'll be using alot of pathways that are sometimes poorly lit rather than roads. Dont want to underdo the front light as it's there to see rather than be seen. But dont want to go crazy (no need for 500 lumens, just 250 ish.. although sometimes it benefits battery life on low/medium power modes)

  • I expect orders to be Cancelled. Let's see what happens.

    • Yeah I will be shocked if anything comes of this error.

I decided to take a stab and order some sports drink powders/gels.

Pretty sure it'll be cancelled because I was getting a $35 sports drink powder for $10…

Unless they decide to fix it by charging the full amount, I'm not sure if they are allowed to do that though.

  • Damn you OzBargain! I just spent a heap of cash at 99bikes yesterday.
Even still, I couldn't resist giving this a go and I've placed another order. Ended up about 50% off on average for the items I chose. Hopefully we'll slip through the cracks and the bonus price reductions will stick!

  • cancelled.

  • Dear 99 Bikes customer,

We wish to advise that the order you placed on our website over the weekend has been cancelled. A full refund has already been applied to your credit card. The time it takes for this to appear on your statement will vary depending on your financial institution but typically is 1-2 business days.

The order contained a coupon code that functioned incorrectly, applying a greater discount value than advertised on the coupon site. Unfortunately this code was then shared on a forum in a way which promoted its misuse, and as such, the decision has been made to cancel all orders to which it was applied. We do apologise for this inconvenience, and understand this has affected all orders containing that code. We make no implication that all orders are subject to intentional misuse.

The code has since been disabled, with a replacement communicated to our network of affiliates. You can resubmit your order using the replacement code 25JAN225 which is still valid until 24 January.
