Zapals: Free Car Steering Wheel Phone Mount Holder (Save $5.12) (New Registrants)

120
ZAPALS160109

Another free item from Zapals. This time it's a Car Steering Wheel Phone Mount Holder.

You can use it on a game controller steering wheel.

You don't want to use this in a real car as it's dangerous and probably illegal to use in Australia.

Massive fine if you get caught using this.
No way I would in Victoria.

    • From VicRoads:

      Fully licensed car drivers

Using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, except to make or receive a phone call or to use its audio/music functions provided the phone:

is secured in a commercially designed holder fixed to the vehicle, or

can be operated by the driver without touching any part of the phone, and the phone is not resting on any part of the driver's body.

Using a phone as a navigational device/GPS while driving is prohibited unless it is secured in a commercially designed holder fixed to the vehicle. All other functions (including video calls, texting and emailing) are prohibited.

      • I am sure that does not mean the steering wheel. On the console or dash area, no probs.
        From VicRoads:
"The penalties are 4 demerit points and a $455 fine. !

        • -2

i don't see why the stearing wheel would be any different to console/dash.

        • @thydzik:
Would need to be 100% sure. Its $455 if you are wrong.
They dont muck around with phone related fines.

        • @thydzik: I would say it's because there is potential that it will interfere with your grip when turning

        • @thydzik: I am 100% sure a movable - turning steering wheel, is the exact opposite of 'securly mounted'. But you knew that and wanted to stir things up didn't you.

But 2, we had to answer, because there are some people that would think you had a valid point.

But 3, there are still heaps of people that seem to think that they need to speak to others on the phone while driving, that are as thick as two bricks, so we had to answer.

But 4, like many products available in/to Australia, just because you can buy it, does not make it using it legal. Do not use anything except a 100% Australian standards pure hands free phone device.

  • I use these all the time, prefer it to the cradles, much more convenient, no need to reach to use.

those rubber grips on the holder (red in the picture) can easily slip off when the phone is removed, i had to glue mine on.

    • Redheads!

With the gps on the phone and attached to the wheel, am I supposed to keep rotating my head when I turn the car?

    • Sounds fantastic! Give it a try and let us know!

    • Hopefully you drive straight once in a while for the phone to drive up.

Could be very dangerous as this holder with or without the phone can interfere with your ability to turn a steering wheel.

Just use for gaming steering wheel as suggested. Airbags deploy at a bazillion times the speed of light, so you wouldn't want this sitting over a real wheel!

    • Yep, grabbed one for PCars dash

  • This would make airbags safer amirite?

  • Thank you OP

  • In 4+ years of OzBargaining I'm pretty sure this qualifies as the dumbest product I've seen.

  • coming up as Coupon code as invalid
