Great deal but after paying $5 at coles recently i might wait a bit longer in case :)

    • My guess is we'll see the $5 price again in June.

  • -1

No limit on how many you can buy

    In-store there is…

    • +2

And that's variable too. Depends on the mood of the juvenile team member that you get…

    • Depends on who serves you. There is no hard limit.

      • This. Some believe they are embodiment of justice.

  • -2

Assuming this works with credit me2u so a good way to send credit to a wifi device for data…

    • +1

Only if you have a grandfathered data plan or are happy to consume the recharge credit at $2/MB.

      • -2

I was thinking more of sending credit from 5 sims to it & then getting the $140 16GB data valid for 2yrs…

        • I'm thinking that won't work as credit me2u into a datapass at a max of $10 a time only increases data marginally and not expiry at all. … ???

        • +1

@minksta: $10 credit to Data Pass will only get you 5MB of data. You are better off sending the credit to a service on Simplicity, Beyond Talk or Long Life and purchasing a $20 & $5 Plus Pack for 730MB extra data.

        • I was thinking more of sending credit from 5 sims to it & then getting the $140 16GB data valid for 2yrs…

Only way you could do that is if you got a really nice Telstra Rep on the phone/live chat/in store but even then it is unlikely.

  • After the offer ends how much data do you get? 5gb?

    • +1

Normally it's 1.3GB day + 1.3GB night data (2.6GB total) per month but there's a current Pre-Paid Freedom Plus promotion (promo ends Jan 25th 2016) for new and existing customers 5GB getting started bonus data + 2.6GB (1.3GB day, 1.3GB night) for 7.6GB data per month for the first month. As long as you activate your $30 Telstra SIM and select Pre-Paid Freedom Plus before the end of Jan 25th 2016 you'll get it.

      https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/pre…

      • So if I activate after the 25th I only get 2.6gb?

        • +1

          That is correct.

      • +2

If you want pure data post-26th Jan you can get 3gig on the MBB offer, not sure if they'll keep it to 2.6gig or reduce it to 1.3 gig as technically the night bonus offer is also mean to end on the 26th (or is it 25th?). More likely they'll keep the night data though.

        • +1

Some people have received text messages to say the night data bonus offer has been extended.

        • Could you please tell me what the night data bonus and MBB offer gives, I searched online but couldnt find much information. I am planning to switch to Freedom plus from next month (Feb) 16th (current plan with telechoice expires). If I can get a better plan by joining before Jan 25th I might consider that.

        • @sween64:

Where did you hear about that from? Awesome news if true.

        • +1

          @illumination:

Whirlpool forum. Two accounts of it. Web pages may have changed to remove dates relating to night bonus. Dates remain for 5GB bonus so it's a little unclear.

        • +2

          @praga:

Currently new activations of a $30 Kit on Freedom Plus receive 7.6GB.

After 26th Jan, activations or a $30 recharge on Freedom Plus will receive 1.3GB (maybe 2.6GB if they extend the night bonus). Activating on the Data Pass offer now and in February, you will receive 3GB.

        • @sween64: Thanks for the reply. I thought the night bonus is part of the plan. I just bought this sim, Ill switch over next month to it as the 5gb bonus is only for the first month.

yay more starter kits, this is an ozbargain staple item much like eneloops!

    • +2

I bought a few $30 starter kits. Went from Vodafone, to Optus (which i got not so good signal reception) and finally to Telstra which i get good reception here so i'm sticking with Telstra.

    • +1

We will see much less of Eneloops now that Dicky Smith has gone. In fact OzBargain will be a lot quieter now without Dicky's regular sale with everything in exclusion.

      • +1

Telstra-loops? Who wants to post their sim starter kit collection? lol

      • I don't know. Eneloops might go for cheap on an upcoming DSE closing down fire sale.

        • that will be "once-off" eneloop sales then……

but I think Dick Smith doesn't have much stock left for sale…..

  • +1

Maybe a dumb question, do they work overseas?

    • +1

The sims do, but basically only the 30 dollar credit for use. The data allowance is domestic use only.

    • +2

You can use the $30 credit on the sim to buy an international roaming BROWSEPLUS pack ($29), but you'll only get 100MB of data to use overseas.

      • +2

There are no such packs for calls or SMS. Just in case anyone hoped there was.

  • +1

Not a bad deal! Thanks OP.

  • +1

Tried to purchase several and they were removed at checkout 😢

    • +1

It's mostly about luck rather than stock.

  • Just missed out.. anymore Telstra starter kit deals going around?

    • Hardly normal has them at $10 as well but the website says limit 1 per customer.

    • +1

If you missed out then give it couple of days - these deals are very frequent.

      • $2 or less does not happen frequently.

Sorry, wrong thread. $10 or less happens reasonably frequently. Maybe every month at at least one retailer.

  • +1

    not available online anymore

  • Does anyone know if I can use my $20 of my $30 starting credit on Freedom PLus to buy the 2.5GB data pack? From the info on the site, it looks like I should be able to, but when logged in it's not an option to purchase? Cheers.

    • No. They are Data Top Ups and recharge a Top Up recharge. You will find the option under recharge.

  • Just a question, it says it "Includes $30 credit for calls and SMS" does it mean we would be on the $30 prepaid ($700 worth of calls) or have only $30 in credit?

    • +1

It gives you a $30 recharge upon activation. So if you activated on Simplicity or Long Life you wouldn't get the $700 calls but if you activated on Freedom Plus you would get the $700 call credit.

      • Ah I see it now. Was getting confused over all these names.

      • Did you know by any chance if once you use your $200 international calls does it charge from the $700 call credit or you just can't call international after that?

  • +1

Is it possible to use the Freedom Plus deal then put the SIM card in a 4G USB stick for use?

    • +3

      Yes.

    • +2

      Yes. Done so many times.

  • What's the best way to register this for data only in a tablet/iPad ?

    Any clues appreciated…

    • -1

Freedom plus as per above if you only need 30 days

      • +2

        28 days

  • Is porting from Boost to Telstra PrePaid a straightforward process? Hope there's no need for blank sims and what not?

    • +1

      port away!!

    • You need a blank SIM. Only way you can use a $30 Starter Kit to port to telstra from boost, is by porting out to Optus/Voda first.

      • I didn't need a blank sim to port from Boost to Telstra. Starter kit worked fine.

  • +2

bought one from HarveyNorman and free delivery

  • still available in North Syd OW. they had them out the back and the service rep put about 5 phone sims and 5 tablet sims on display. $10- each.
he mentioned they are on a clearance. tab sim have expiry date of 28 July 2017 and phone sim has expiry of 17 May 2017.. so plenty of time to use.

bought 2 - they didn't question it.. maybe if I bought all 10 they would have stopped me..

  • I managed to grab 2 from Oxley qld today - they were behind the registers but no dramas grabbing them. August 2017 expiry :)

  • WA - Got 3 from Subi store, said they had "a few" more (I didn't ask for more) then said "I'm not sure how many I'm allowed to sell to one person".

  • Bought 1 from the subiaco officeworks yesterday. Successfullt activated for the 3G of data but struggling to get the bonus 5GB as the option to switch to freedom plus doesn't appear as an option in account settings. Went to the live chat support only to find myself 24th in the queue - hardly real time support. Anyone else had the same issue? i.e activating the 5GB bonus data

  • None left at Subi when I just went at lunch.

  • Just need some clarification on the Freedom Plus Plan: Is this a post paid plan? There is no option for it when signing up as a prepaid service…

    Thanks! :-)

    • Prepaid. You will be prompted to choose a plan after ID check and it's the top one.

  • Prepaid. See https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…
P.S I had to go through their call centre to switch to freedom plus after activating the sim and they manually applied the plan and 5GB bonus.
    Thanks for posting realfancyman.

  • Nil stock at Officeworks Elizabeth

  • Can I activate on Freedom Plus plan & put the sim in a mobile broadband device & use the data that way?

    :-)

    • Yes you can
