not a bad deal, but i'd prefer this http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…. just really a trade off with the cpu for a better graphics card i guess.

    • I'd prefer that one too! :P

      • I third that, newer processor and far better graphics.

  • Not a bargain, first google search found it for $1012 before cashback"

  • My first laptop was a gateway.. EW!

I'd personally never touch a gateway branded pc again because of that experience, try getting a new battery or power cord in Australia it was impossible.

Deal posted earlier today has similar specs for $599; http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22975

Then again this is a HP Compaq with an Nvidia chipset, which doesn't have the greatest record either!

    • Gateway today are nothing of the late 90s, they're fully owned by Acer and notebooks are assembled out of the same factories Toshiba, HP, Lenovo etc come from.

The deal you shared has different specs, processor is quite a bit slower, but the price obviously reflects that.

The Acer ozhunter linked to is definitely the pick of the lot, fantastic price.

Sorry, no way that $599 one is similar - the processor is about half the computing power.

    • Indeed is is a most powerful processor but I wouldn't say twice, it has a higher FSB, 2MB more cache and slightly higher clock. Both are based on the same tech 45nm, 64bit dual cores..

This one is obviously better, but 400 dollars better? I don't think so.

With the i3/i5 processors hitting the market, this isn't as good as may first appear.

Something like the Dell Inspiron 15 i3-330M with Mobility 5450 1GB, which starts at $949 (not including discount vouchers, moneybackco etc.) would outperform it on most levels and even have a longer battery life to boot, not to mention Windows 7 pre-installed, delivery included, and no waiting for cashback.

    • Great info tantryl.

    • Well said. Even the Acer ozhunter links to is a fantastic deal with great specs (i3 330, 1GB HD5650, $899).

  • first post and shot dooowwwnnn! next time i'll try harder LOL!!!

Don't worry, it's nothing personal and don't let it deter you from posting future bargains. That's what comments and votes are meant for, to decide if it's good or not :)

  • ozhunter no need to feel bad about a deal that turned out to be just ok. I'm really thankful that you posted this cos I got the catch of the day email and was really weighing this up. Thanks to yourself and other members I know that there's better deals out there. thanks heaps
