Boost Mobile Sim Starter Kit 1/2 Price @ Coles ($10 for $20 Plan, $20 for $40 Plan)

180

Great way to get the $20 plan for $10. Boost uses the Telstra 4G network and the data limit is pretty good when you combine with the bonus weekend data.

    Re: Data is Pretty Good…

Please just give the amount of data, &
let the reader decide for themselves
how good (or otherwise, the norm for
Telstra, IMO) the deal is for them.

    Data quota?

    Weekend extention? &, of course,
How long does the extention last?

You'll save a lot of folks a lot of time,
eg, visiting the cited web page(s).

    Thanks for the deal, but
    it's not too late
    to improve it… ;-)

For those who are curious about Boost's very popular $40 prepaid deal, a quick summary:
      * Unlimited calls and SMS within Australia
      * 30 day expiry (no rollovers)
      * 3GB of data
      * 2GB of "bonus" data every weekend

Boost uses the full Telstra 3G/4G/4GX network, with data speed capped at 50Mbps.
      Full details here: http://boost.com.au/$40-unlimited-pre-paid-sim-plan.aspx
Note that this half-price SIM offer is also on the Boost website.

At full price, the $40 Boost offer is very comparable with Telstra's Freedom Plus prepaid deal ($40, unlimited calls and SMS, 3GB data + 3GB "bonus" night data, 28 day expiry). At half price, it's very appealing, but the discount is only on the first month so not a massive saving really.

The major differences between Boost and Freedom Plus are:

      • Boost has 30 day expiry, while Freedom Plus deal has a shorter 28 day expiry (13 periods per year)
However, Freedom Plus expiry can be extended to a full calendar month by setting an automatic monthly recharge.

      • Boost data speeds are capped; Freedom Plus speeds are not.

      • Freedom Plus allows carrier billing - this can be used to pay for Google Play content from prepaid credit, making apps, music and movies effectively free. I use it to pay a Google Music subscription for my whole family.

      • Freedom Plus allows unused call credit and data to be rolled over to the following month.

      • Boost's bonus "weekend data" effectively is a separate 2GB "bucket" of data that becomes available each weekend from 9pm Friday until Sunday midnight. Freedom Plus bonus "night data" is a separate bucket of data that gets used from 8pm each night until 8am the following morning. In both cases, if you use up all of your bonus data, you'll start using your normal data bucket again.
(Note that the Freedom Plus "bonus data is a limited time offer and will allegedly only apply until the end of January. Boost's weekend data is ongoing.)

On balance, I think the Telstra deal is better than Boost's. I find the carrier billing and data rollover to provide better value for my usage. But if Boost's weekend data fits well for your usage patterns, you may be swayed in that direction.

  • What's the expiry date looking like?

  • Looks like this special isn't just exclusive to coles, seems to be also available through boost website.

    • The $20 starter pack isn't half price on their website. Only the $40 is.

  • As a current Boost Customer, can I buy $40 recharge for $20, then activate and port onto new sim ???
or is this new customers only?

    • I was hoping to also buy these starter packs and port from one to the other. Is there a limit/limitation to doing this?

    • You will need to port out… then back.

I flipped from Boost $40 last month to Telstra $30 Freedom this month.
Nxt month back to Boost it looks like.

(I prefer Boost and Telstra over Vigin/ Optus/ Voda… seems to give me best reception in the CBD Melb. Only Boost and Telstra allows me to still talk while in elevator at my Apartment)

***ages ago… i live chat to boost. Told them i was gifted a $40 boost starter pack and wanted to have it activated with my existing boost number.
      They said i could not.
But however they offered to give me $40credit to my existing sim with Boost.
The new starter pack was unused and good for my next port.

  • if I'm currently with vodafone (plan expired last month) can I just go to coles and buy this starter kit? how do I keep my number? so the starter kit is just a sim card which I insert to my phone? whats the set up process?
