Wow, way to make an awesome deal even better! Loving Boost with Telstra 4G!

  • +1

Does anyone know if the bonus data will be for the whole weekend after the extra data promo finishes and it goes back to 1gb?

  • +2

Hate switching services… Guess that's the only reason I'm on prepaid - to save costs.. Bye bye Optus

    • Switching services is incredibly easy, why do you hate it?

      • +1

Buy a starter pack, register, setup voice mail and diversions. This will be the sixth in less than 2 years..

        • I do it every month, takes 5 minutes. Stock up when starter packs are $5 or $10 and get unltd talk/text, 1.5Gb, 2 hours overseas every 2nd month, average monthly cost over 1 year = $7 so far. no probs.

      Optus - The new Vodafone.

      • +9

Bit of an insult to Vodafone these days :P

        • +3

Vodafone is improving their services in a faster speed than Optus, I have all three provider services, Telstra is the best for rural which is useful for travelling, Optus is not bad at all on hways, and Vodafone has super fast 4G in cities

        • Not really Vodafone 4g network is pretty much non existent once you leave the capital cities. Atleast optus have 4g in regional areas. Both suck compared to Telstra.

  • wish i did not sign up to the $45/m telstra deal :(

    • cancel it, all you gotta pay is the handset which is less than 500 by now

      • its 24 month contract though?

        • not really is, Telstra explained clearly on a conversation about the deal, they said it is only a casual plan, hence they apply handset fee on it which reduced monthly, you can check it when you log in with your Telstra account on computer, click onto the phone number to open options and you can see it

        • @webtherapist:

NICE!! Thanks for that.. $509.68 to buy out.

Ouch… "In addition to the amounts above, there is an $8 fee if you'd like to take your mobile number to another provider."

        • +1

          @joshuah:
not bad since i sold the handset in the first 48 hours for $500 lol

        • @joshuah: well, here you go :), I paid them 550 for my final month and handset because Optus offers me a good deal for business account, which gives me $150 for bringing my number in as well as 2 months FREE access fee for my iPhone 6S Plus 128GB, so, subtract the phone cost which is 1500ish, I have 24 months of service with 8GB data, international calls for 300 minutes for just around 700-800, not too bad :)

        • @webtherapist: also, Optus let you upgrade 3 months prior end of contract so it would save me another $240 during that 24 months, plus claiming tax due to business usage too

        • +1

@joshuah: you just transfer to telstra pre paid before you port out to save the $8

        • @joshuah:i would ask them to refund that 8 dollars if get charged as they cannot charge you for the number, it is your right to keep your desired number as long as you pay off what included in contract

  • +1

If telechoice ever gets rid of their $20 plan like one of their call center agents intimated, I'm switching straight to boost.

    • Im on the 20 plan too. What did they say? that suggested it might be going?

      • +1

I was on the horn with them a few weeks ago, asking about options to top up my data allowance and on our current plans they responded on the negative. He was busy trying to sell me the new plans that actually allow you to add data once you exceed your allowance automatically and get charged $10/gig. (The additional data is provided in 1GB increments but still computed per kb.)

I told him that that wasn't what I was looking for. Anyway, during the exchange, it crept into the conversation that our current tiers of plans were going to be forcibly updated in the near future (to the ones they now have on their website.)

He wasn't able to tell me the timing of this supposed update.

I didn't get the impression that he was telling me this just to get me to sign up for the new plans. It seemed like he genuinely believed that there was going to be an update in the future. Take it as you will… That being said, if and when Telechoice emails me to this effect, I'm heading straight to boost! I'd look forward to 4G AND the Telstra retail network!

        • +1

Thanks heaps for this info. Correct me if im wrong but you're on the 20 Kogan deal (1GB data) like me. This deal has vanished from their offered plans and been replaced with less attractive offers. Forcibly updated? Hell no! They do this and im off to Boost in an instant! Telechoice has been great for me but wont hesitate jumping ship if what you've said is true. Cheers.

        • @rawm:
No problem, @rawm. You and I are exactly on the same page on this one. And yes, I'm on the $20 Kogan deal. :)

  • +1

didn't realise it was 4g now. is it the full Telstra 4g network?

    • +1

Yes Telstra, no not maximum 4G speed. "THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:Boost offers 3G and 4G services, with typical download speeds of 2-50Mbps for 4G devices in 4G areas (not full 4GX data speeds) and 3G speeds in other coverage areas. Speeds vary for reasons like local conditions, device and content."

      • but it is full telstra 4g speeds, just not full 4gx data speeds right?

        • -1

@tightarse: 4G doesn't officially roll out until the 29th so they may be waiting until then to cap the speeds?

        • +3

@minMaxRNG: Didn't 4G officially roll out on the 29th of Sept? Do you have your months wrong?

        • @tightarse: That'd be the one, my bad!

        • I believe when Telstra says '4Gx' they are referring to their new 700mhz 4g network they are rolling out.

So you might miss out on access to the complete 4g network. I.e a Telstra customer might get 4g coverage still in the same place a boost customer may have dropped back to 3g because the 1800mhz 4g doesn't cover that area or doesn't penetrate the building as well.

I could be wrong on the 4gx definition though so if someone could confirm that would be great.

        • @brad1601: its either no 700mhz at all as you say, or no bonding traffic between the different network bands to achieve '4gx' speeds (eg 700mhz + another band simultaneously).

Edit: ah the FAQ makes it pretty clear they support 700mhz http://community.boost.com.au/t5/Getting-Started/Boost-4G-Fr…

  • +1

    Aren't Spintel's offerings greater value?

    • Not really, no. $39 for 4GB anytime on Optus vs $40 for 3GB anytime + 8GB on weekends on Telstra. Could get better value out of Spintel if you don't want unlimited calls and texts though.

    • Spintel is better value if you don't need unlimited calls and texts. I'm with them and pay only $27pm for 4Gb of data, as far as I know, it's the cheapest way to get that much data. Perfect for me.
I use Whatsapp/Hangouts a lot so never need more than 200 SMS pm. If I go over 200mins then it's only an extra $3 to get 500 mins.

  • Best thing about being with Boost/Telstra is seen how desperate my wife gets with her Lebara/Vodafone when we go camping

  • I've been very happy since switching to Boost when LiveConnected kicked me off their $11.99/mo deal. Reception on Telstra's network is much better than with Optus.

This looks like a great deal.

  • If you go to the home page (www.boost.com.au), it says Special Offer: Ends 26th October 2015.
Does that mean this offer expired yesterday?

    • i dont see that anywhere on the home page.

      • It was there yesterday when this deal was posted but looks like Boost have removed it.

  • Can you set auto top ups for this prepaid service after every 30 days?

    • +1

Yes. That's what I have set up.

      • Thanks mate! Will look into it. Currently on an aging LC 20 dollar plan with only 1.5gb. 11gb total sounds like a dream haha.

      • Hi TA, I am also a long term Boost user and love the service, it doesn't miss a beat. Glad we now get the whole weekend re data, for the moment :)

        • +1

I reckon! No complaints from me :)

        • The above link seems to indicate autorecharge is only applicable on the $40 plan. Is this correct?

        • @amts: as far as I'm aware, yes.

        • @rawm: Is there much effort then to recharge every month? As in is there some semi-automated process? And do I have to do the recharge on the same date each month or I can do it earlier and not affect the monthly cycle?

Edit: Looks like the $20 plan is "autorechargeable" -> http://www.boost.com.au/ways-to-recharge.aspx

  • When does it end ?

    • +1

      New offer. Ongoing.

      • Old offer actually ended 25/10/15, looks like they are making it permanently, thumbs up from me. Instead of Sunday only, its weekend somemore. I am staying on.

      • Does Boost kick you off if the plan gets discontinued in the future?

  • How'd their service like compared with optus? They use Telstra 4G correct?

    • +3

Absolutely flogs Optus and yes full Telstra 4G!

      • +1

        Done deal! I'm switching tonight!

      • Is that brand loyalty speaking? I have Telstra and Optus, and have tested both extensively. It depends where you are. For me, where it counts, i.e. at home and at work, Optus gets better data speeds and a stronger network signal.

        • @sepa No brand loyalty involved here, just that Optus is poor in West Gippsland

  • Cant find an ending date in the T&C's - it was just an assumption by me - let's hope it stays for good!

  • Been with optus 4G (via exetel) for years and got sick of dead spots and poor data.

Switched to boost and absolutely love them. Although only on the $20 plan the speeds are awesome and reception unbeatable, sitting in the bottom of a valley in the blue mountains and still getting bars.

    • Sitting in a bar at the bottom of a valley…

  • +2

finally back at the point, and more, we were at with Kogan's original 5GB deal 2-3yrs ago, sweet

  • +4

I think it's worth mentioning that the $20/month prepaid from Boost has changed to 500mb per weekend bonus (not just Sunday anymore) as well.
    http://boost.com.au/$20-ultra-sim-prepaid-plan.aspx

What other offerings are there on the market for max $20 a month that give more than 1gb data?

    • +1

      Yeah 1GB is pretty good.

Shame that there are only 100 included mins though which is very low. If they improved it to 200 mins it would be a lot more useable and I could see myself switching over.

      • Agreed. Extend this to 200mins and the uptake would be huge.

  • Wow this is incredible. So to confirm this on the Telstra 4G network?

  • So tempting but missing overseas calling time from other deals.. Still good nevertheless if you don't need overseas call. Thanks TA

  • I'm still getting my data stop working when switching between 4g and 3g. It is annoying.

    • yeah ditto, since they enabled 4G they have stuffed up data connections on 3G somehow.

  • Dam, such a good deal, both the $20 and $40 monthly plans.

Tempted to switch from Telstra's grandfathered Freedom Nights plan.

    $30 plan gives me:
    - $30 recharge credit which i use for Me2u credit transfer to iPad Mini 2
    - $220 freedom credit
    - 1.3GB data
    - Unlimited talk and text from 6pm-6am to Australian standard numbers
    - 30 expiry via auto-recharge setup

Never come close using all any of the credit or data monthly though.
Have 2.5GB of data to use on my iPad Mini 2 monthly.
And 1TB internet montlhy for WIFI usage at home.

    • you lose 4GX and the ability to use recharge credit on Google Play/Windows Store payments, but that's about it.

Don't forget Freedom+ now has the extra 1.3 night time data for 2.6GB total, which may suit your usage better than the weekend data.

  • No international call credit included is a deal breaker to me. I'll stay with Virginmobile BYO 29 (paying 19/month), although only getting 1.5g data.

  • sorry if its a silly question: Can a boost sim be used to switch on mobile wifi, so I can use my phone as a wifi hotspot??

    • +1

I'm with Boost and use my iPhone as a hotspot for my iPad quite often.

  • Sweet. Thanks

  • Does Boost give usage warnings? Or even any way to find out how close you are to the limit?

I had to move my tweenage daughter from Amaysim PAYG to Boost 20 with unlimited text after she chewed up her whole recharge in two days by sending 100+ texts in a day.

    • Like TA, I use my phone as a wi-fi hotspot for my iPad……type m.telstra.com into browser and the page will display a full summary of your Boost usage/remaining credit.

  • +1

Thanks a lot TA! My 24 month plan just expired too :-)

  • Just want to check if there is shaping after reaching the quota?

Can I buy the $40 SIM pack to use on the $20 plan to get 60 days worth of credit?

    • Just want to check if there is shaping after reaching the quota?

Not sure but I doubt it - you probably just get cut off.

Can I buy the $40 SIM pack to use on the $20 plan to get 60 days worth of credit?

No, but there is a $20 SIM pack.

      • Bugger, the $40 pack is half price!

        • Just enjoy the extra data then :)

        • @magicmoose:
So I can change "plans" after the first 30 days?

        • @amts: I would assume so, just recharge $20 instead of $40. Others who have used boost may be able to confirm (or ask boost themselves)

        • +1

@magicmoose: Can confirm that if you're on the $40 for the month, when you recharge next you can just recharge $20.

        • @knifejuggler: Thanks. Live chat also said the same.

  • +1

If u go to the website, they having promotion starter pack for 20 dollars (valued 40 ) can i use this starter pack to activate this deal ?

    Cheers guys

    • +4

If you purchase the $40 UNLTD starter pack for the $20 promotional price, you can definitely activate this deal, with a 30 day expiry…. enjoy!

  • Boost is now 4G?! Damn, still 12 months to go on my Telstra contract
