Opal Card $60 Recharge for $24 @ Woolworths [Figtree, NSW]

1020

Hi guys, went to my local store in figtree and went to buy an Opal card. I was informed by the lady that although it is not being advertised that they are coming up with massive discounts in the Woolworths system. $24 will get you a $60 recharge or $48 will get you $120. Appears to be a figtree only deal. Receipt attached for all the doubters.

what's the deal with this? is it only for Opal top ups?

  • +3

This has so many upvotes, yet any confirmed users…

    • I agree. If only OP got the discount and no one else can, then it is like one of the price error deal (or those deals with <5 items in stock), and should be removed.

      • You can ring figtree woolworths if you are skeptical

      • +3

Sounds like you're upset that you can't get cheap opal top ups.

Pull your skirt down and stop bitching.

        • +2

It was nothing personal mate, and what he's saying is true. Relax lol

        • -6

I'm just saying. I don't use Opal as I drive to work. Stop bitching me when I speak the truth.

        • -1

          Thanks Paji,
do you live around Figtree? plz Pm
          thanks

  • It's been confirmed, just at figtree but

  • +6

This deal was worth posting. It is not the OP's fault it may only apply to Figtree.

  • so i can buy $24 for $ 60 as new opal card right? not as recharge

    • Yes correct because i did both and got discount on both

      • do you think there is any limit like 2 per customer or beyond ?
        thanks

  • +1

I think given the interest the question should be what is the daily limit .. because its just going to be hit again tomorrow now it has been promoted(here). I would suggest a daily limit exists exactly for this case - to limit damage caused by a system/user error - so it's likely an email is already sitting somewhere notifying someone to double check this store/outlet.

    • I'm wondering the same, it can't be much as it exceeded the limit only an hour or thereabouts after it was posted here.

    • +3

Looks like there will be an OZbargain meet up over there tomorrow

  • +1

checked burwood westfield woolworths. no deal.

seriously, if this is confirmed working, it's worth a road trip to wollongong! ..if it's not limited to 2 cards

  • +7

Would love to see the faces of the Woolies staff when they see two or three hundred people lined up at work tomorrow morning:)

Anyone wanna carpool from Sydney CBD to Figtree early tomorrow morning? :D

    • don't even tempt me.

    • +1

      Sick day tomorrow

    • +2

Just take public transport down. With the discounted opal recharge it wouldnt cost much.

      • Early morning is difficult.

      • make sure you do the opal weekly $15 walk at starcity pyrmont before get down there. so like get up at 4am

        • Could you please be exact on how to do that

        • +1

@saeedsaund: Thought it is a jk as we post about this chat.

but anyway here is how people do it - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/185554

After complete you $15 walk get down to central station sydney terminal train to Wollongong Figtree woolies to top up. Really big effort!

wonder how many of us will have a shot at this!

        • @leehungfei: if you ask me, this is the real ozbargain spirit and is much more worthwhile than doing marathons for no good reason

  • +3

Does the Manager know about the glitch? It seems like someone just coded in the wrong clearance item, and it is probably someone who works at the store, apparently as it is isolated to that store only. o_O

If so they need to get someone to go in and patch it so that certain items cannot be put on clearance, change prices.

I wonder if opal card transactions can be reversed, e.g. in the case a stolen credit card is used to topup.

They'd then have to reverse my foot from their ass.

      • Well, this is Ozbargain, not Glitch-Abuse-Bargain.

Lots of retailers have cancelled incorrectly priced items.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some opal card topups reversed.

They can isolate the epay terminal which was used and also the operator.

        • Well, this is Ozbargain, not Glitch-Abuse-Bargain.

          It's not SnitchBargain either!

Lots of retailers have cancelled incorrectly priced items.

Cancelling an order is very different to recouping funds from a state issued card.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some opal card topups reversed.

I would! This is the NSW government we're talking about, not some überefficent Scandinavian one, not like they exactly have all their ducks in a row.

Good luck justifying OP's actions and others that abused this.

By posting about an exploit, the OP already snitched themselves.

It is clear just by using common sense that $60 Opal Topups shouldn't be $24, in the absence of any true offer, which their staff have already notified them doesn't exist.

Also, most people at the store would have known about the glitch, i.e. anyone who changed it by accident should have remedied it. If they haven't by the next day, then well, something strange is going on. Prices don't just change automatically.

          @ponyhearts:

          Good luck justifying your actions.

To whom? Minimising costs and making the best value choices make a good consumer.

          By posting about an exploit,

It isn't an exploit. You seem to be assuming it's a price error and we don't even know that. It isn't the responsibility of consumers to ensure that they don't benefit from price errors. It's the responsibility of retailers to ensure that they don't make the errors. ¬_¬

          the OP already snitched themselves.

          How?

It is clear just by using common sense that $60 Opal Topups shouldn't be $24, in the absence of any true offer, which their staff have already notified them doesn't exist.

On the contrary, it seems the deal has been on offer for a few days at least and has been positively confirmed by staff to recommence at 8 AM tomorrow!

        • -4

          Dude you don't get it.

          No common sense…

By posting about an offer that clearly shouldn't be, they effectively broadcasted to everyone else to take advantage of the pricing error/glitch! If that isn't snitching, I don't know what is. They are putting it in the public arena, knowing that is it probably incorrectly priced or a glitch.

in the absence of any true offer, which their staff have already notified them doesn't exist.

          READ!

She was just a front counter lady. Said they rang head office and they did not know of any promotion but they were scanning through as being on sale And to come to the conclusion that it shouldn't be. Duh?

        • @ponyhearts:

          the pricing error/glitch!

Prove that it's a pricing error. The OzBargain team have more research resources than you or me and this deal is presently at the top of the front-page. If such proof was available, it would've already been marked as such.

If that isn't snitching, I don't know what is.

I don't think you understand the meaning of the word snitch: to turn informer; tattle.

i.e. potentially you!: "If so they need to get someone to go in and patch it so that certain items cannot be put on clearance, change prices."

  • i will go there around 8am from sydney :)

  • 8am tomorrow? but i start work before 8am?! and also Woolworths seem to be having a lot of 'errors' as of late for some reason!??

    • +2

Perhaps to get people talking in a good way, since there has been a huge social media backlash on the changes to The Everyday Rewards program.

  • I recall someone reporting that most Woolies apart from the Sydney CBD stores have daily limits of around $1500. Perhaps someone has time to search past opal deals and check? If it is $1500, then at $120/person, I'd expect the deal to expire again soon after 8 and everyone will be waiting untilv Tuesday assuming the deal is still on.

  • Who Has recharged there opal. Please state how much and which Woolworth you did the recharge.

  • 1 person and it's already been stated

    $24 for $60
    $48 for $120

    • Limited 1 per / $48 for $120?

  • +1

I gave it a burl at Woolies in Padstow since I was shopping there anyway but no luck for me.

  • +2

Anyone seriously planning on going there tomorrow ?

  • Looks no one from figtree area has confirmed this so far! Only one and only Op?

  • +4

Everyone complaining needs to grow up or good deals like this won't get posted anymore.
Thanks for being a good guy and sharing OP.

Just got up for my Monday Opal run

  • I'm going to go in this morning. I'm only 10 mins away and still on annual leave for another two weeks. Nothing else for me to do all day except watch NBA league pass, so I'll do something productive with my time today :)

    • Good game tomorrow warriors @ cle

  • InB4 everyone goes to figtree only for them to have fixed the price by now.

  • +5

Hi guys, just returned from the store, it have already reached the limit for opal card. So no more chance to charge it if come late.

    • Was there heaps of people when u went there? Any updates on what the limit is?

      • arrivaled at 7.40 only 5 people line for opal. guess the limit was only 1500 per day.

    • +7

Yeah. The first in line where a couple (a guy & a girl together, you know who you are), that took 30 minutes to be served and both bought whatever max they were allowed. Heard the woman serving say "we'll have to put a limit on them because there won't be enough for everyone already in line". The limit was then set to 2 per customer (probably should have been this at the start). Also saw some heated words exchanged between the first couple and someone else in the que. Anyway, needless to say the store's $1500 daily sales limit was reached pretty quickly and there was some p#$$ed off people in line. One of there workers there said she doubts it will be available tomorrow because they will be trying to fix the 'glitch' ASAP.

        • No, don't be racism! They were white. If you were not there, keep your mouth shut!

          @sinishta:
          too dull to understand?

        • I was there and saw a couple of asians there. I only bought the last $20 for $12. Nice to here not the asian bought all cards because I am an asian too.

      • +3

Who the f were the couple?

Theyre as bad as that salim asswipe, will need to arrest them.

        • +1

Show them your ozbargain license and beat them with a bag of eneloops, officer.

        • They will probably post them on gumtree or ebay and resell that.

  • Yeah I just read rocked up and can also confirm that the limit is up. Either that or they suspended it, because they said they were aware of the glitch and are getting it fixed. Hopefully it doesn't result in some poor bigger getting performance managed over it, because they've done some ozbargainers a fantastic service!

  • I work at a Newsagency selling opal. They only make 2.5% on all sales. So unless Woolworths get a special deal they are making a pretty big loss here. From what I know it's pretty hard to get a refund more than 15 mins after you've sold it, if it's Woolworths fault I doubt epay will do any reversal for them. So if this is real, do it!

    • feel bad if this happens to the local stores, but since woolies been screwing everyone from suppliers, transporters and customers over for years on prices, go to town people.

  • anyone know if you can purchase $50K of opal credits this way? or is there a limit on how much you can have on your opal cards?

buy the opal credits at massive discount, send card back to opal centre, get full face value refunded. Better than working a full time job if it checks out.
