Tap King Discontinued

FYI

Yeah, it never was popular unless the unit itself was free!

Noble Kings, it is with a heavy heart that the Royal Council announces the end of the Tap Kingdom. The pleasure of draught beer in the comfort of your own castle was enjoyed by many, but unfortunately the time has come to discontinue Tap King and bid thee farewell.

Since launching Tap King in 2013, we have appreciated the unwavering loyalty of our Kings and Queens, and have delighted in the many experiences you have shared of one’s enjoyment of draught beer at home.

However, ultimately sales have not met expectations and the Royal Council has had to make the most difficult of decisions and stop supplying stockists. We recognise this will disappoint many of you which we greatly regret, but we hope you will always remember your time as a King or Queen most fondly.

Tap king inspired me to start home brewing. The idea of draught beer at home was pretty cool i thought - I ended up with a dedicated bar fridge and corny keg on gas over the next few months

thanks tap king, wont miss ya

  • $42 for 6.4L isn't too bad. Why weren't they doing this pricing all along? I got a free dispenser 18 months ago and never used it because it was less economical than just buying a carton. If the bottles had been $21 the whole time it might have lasted.

I have tried beers from a friend's though, I think the beer does taste better than from a bottle (not that much better though).

So long tap king, you won't be missed.

Yeh i never bought one either. The people it most appealed too were people who would probabaly just walk into the bottlo every friday night and buy the best tasting carton of beer for around $40-50. So bang for buck was an issue. The second was fridge space - unless you had a dedicated drinks fridge, no way in a share house you can lose a shelf - or if with the missus, no way wifey would let a shelf be taken up by TK and a refill

  • I tried to get a free one at every opportunity and missed out.

Have only ever purchased one Tooheys 'refill' and have 1 used and 2 new dispensers (sourced for free of course). Maybe if their pricing was brought down to a more appealing level they would still be in business and they wouldn't have to axe the classic beers. It was great for the novelty, but I couldn't really substitute it for the conventional tinny or glass.

    Got this reply from Lion.

    Hi there,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. We appreciate your disappointment and frustration.
If you could please give us your details, we will send you out a postage pack to collect your Tap King dispenser. Once we receive your dispenser, we will send you out a $30 voucher

    • Interesting! And I wonder where the voucher would be for!

        According to this article.

While it has not been publicly announced, the company is reportedly offering a $30 Visa Gift Card to aggrieved consumers who do get in touch and return their dispenser by way of a satchel supplied to them by Lion.

Great incentive by Lion. If it works out I should hopefully receive $60 worth of gift cards.

        • Cool :) What was the email address?

        • Sounds like they will only offer one gift card for one dispenser. I said I had three in my email but only mentions the one voucher and satchel.

        • @nubzy: Did you receive your voucher/s? I just returned my dispenser yesterday

        • @JayMoney: haven't even received the return post pack yet. It's been 5 business day and they said up to 3. Is it a post satchel or a box they sent you?

        • @nubzy: it was an express post satchel bag

        • @nubzy: just got an email saying they received my dispenser and my card is on its way

        • @JayMoney: Good to hear. Still no sign of my post pack, must have gotten lost, will email them.

        • @nubzy: good idea. Mine arrived in 2 days

        • @JayMoney: received the express post satchels yesterday, finally.

@nubzy: haha i just received my visa card today

        • I sent my 2 off today. Whilst i'll miss the beer, $60 of cards will be nice.

I just bought the dispenser for $2. at Woolworths and $5. for the Lashes, its meant to be an internal Woolworths employee deal apparently but it was shown on the Woolworths website. All I did was comment that there was a great deal that id heard about and it went from there he was only to happy to let me have it for the prices mentioned, but he had to use his store card to get the price at the till, so I also got the staff discount, so total spent of $6.30. I did go in with a print out, which I offered to show the employee. Total Saved $54.70!!

This was on the Oz Bargain deals section, but that seems to have been removed now as I can no longer find the post.
Woolworths have also now updated their website and it no longer shows the prices I screen printed about an hour ago.

  • I went to the local BWS and was able to get a single Golden Ale for $5. The staff member did know about it as a staff only deal, and at the time I was able to show the Woolies website on my phone showing the $5 which has since been removed. He still went and looked it up, but the details were a bit sketchy. In the end he was a good guy and said 'It's your lucky day - I'll let you have one!' and he rang me up one (I guess he used his card). He mentioned he and the other staff had a few already and there were a couple left on the shelf so they aren't missing out. Just lucky this time and a great bargain for a Friday night.

  • I just got denied by cashier, sorry staff only. Wanna be my friend? Hahahaha.

just scored a tap and a keg from a BWS near me. the server was very nice and acknowledged the staff discount deal as per a piece of paper they had behind the counter. I asked if she could do a second cask but her coworker stepped in with "one per customer".

$7 for a tap and keg.

      YMMV
