  • How does this compare to the Boom 1? Main differences?

    • +1

25% more louder, better bluetooth range, and a tap feature to skip forward or backward.

      • and water resistant I believe??

  • -3

Surely there's better BT speakers for $150

    • +3

Give examples or surely there's not.

      • Not a known brand but go to goodguys and ask for Niche N5 and you will be pleasantly surprised by the clarity and loudness with good bass for $149.
Not even a speaker of 200-250 range produces that kinda sound.

        • From what I see, the brand is just "Niche". Not terrible looks, but it's absent on the web, apart from GG website. Like, no website and no reviews. Two yrs ago when I was in the market, I compared plenty. Boom's sound was inferior only to SoundLink Mini of that time. But Bose was more pricey and less functional.

          Interesting though.

        • @pizzaguy: Yes Sire, it indeed is not known, I did every possible search…but it sounds very very good.

        • +1

          @pizzaguy:

JBL charge 2 or JBL flip 3 are far superior. Boom sounded great years ago.
BT speaker market has exploded since then, plenty of competitors now with better sound and cheaper prices if you're willing to look around.

        • @bangmango:
I was considering Charge then as well (version 1 perhaps?). Sound was similar to Boom, yet I didn't like the design. Being able to charge your device off a speaker is sweet tho.

        • @bangmango: I listened to both in the shop and even the salesman said the boom 2 sounded better in blind test. The larger jbl is huge, more like the megaboom. Horses for courses though, both sounded good, boom 2 better for me.

        • @seraphim2017:
Sound is subjective to a certain extent but for me i just dont agree with the UE's being better than the JBL's. Perhaps the salesman wanted you to buy the more expensive Booms.
I was blown away by both the charge 2 and flip 3. Better bass, fuller sound without being bloated (bose soundlink mini) and better clarity.
The difference i heard in my tests are comparable to what i've heard in online tests. For me it's obvious which is better:
          Boom 2 vs flip 3

Boom 1 but i dont think there's a massive difference vs the boom 2:

        • But is the Niche water and dust proof to IPx7 as the UE Boom 2 and UE Roll are?

Likewise, the JBL's are only splash proof (about IPx4 or possibly IPx5).

Logitech have made a big deal about improving the waterproofing since the original UE Boom.
There is also the ability to connect multiple units of speakers in this product range.

The JBL Flip3 is moedrately more water resistant and portable than the Sony I bought for $99 (plus a free satellite speaker) two years ago, but doesn't sound anywhere near as good. So for me the only draw of these types of speakers is the weatherproofing.

        • @sam buster: No, may be they are not. But i dont usually throw my speaker in water or take it in shower with me.
My opinion was based on a bluetooth speaker quality. Old school —> price + sound + connectivity.

Was not really looking for water / fire / storm resistance.

        • @anuryry: Thanks for the reply.

I started looking at these UE speakers when I was looking for a shower radio for my wife as a Christmas stocking filler. Somehow I went from looking at $15 FM / AM radios to $250 bluetooth speakers, but the UE Roll seemed to fit the bill.
I missed a deal on Black Friday at $80 and didn't get one after all, but now her birthday is coming up.
The UE Roll has great portability and function (a little bungee cord built in) but the sound isn't that great (but plenty adequate for in the bathroom). But I've moved on to looking at the UE Boom 2 because it would be better for picnics and BBQs.

Having listened to both the JBL Flip 3 and the UE Boom 2 in the shops, I don't think there's much to pick and choose between them sound-wise. The Flip 3 is priced about the same as the Roll which is half the price of the Boom 2 - but it just doesn't have that extra level of water/dust proofing that made these things appeal to me in the first place.

  • +1

Also waterproof up to a certain depth, so no worries at all in the rain, in the shower, down the beach, on the boat, scuba diving……….

  • Can't decide which color……..;(

  • dropped $179 on Monday on this! :( did get a price match so saved $30 on Mondays prices, just goes to show, sometimes procrastinating would save money! Excellent speaker for the money. Upgraded from UE mini boom and it is a little clearer at normal volumes but has hugely more top end before distorting of early self inflicted presbycusis is your thing

  • Site is giving me an out of stock message for brain freeze colour

  • Great price on 2x Logitech UE Boom 2 for me :D

    $199 20% = $39.80 = $159.20
    TRS $199 10% = $19.90
    CR $199 2% = $3.98

    So effectively paying
    $318.40 - $39.80 - $5.96 = $272.64 ($136.32 each)

    • TRS??

      • Tax Refund Scheme

  • I posted this but I'll never buy a Ue Speaker again. I Have a Ue Mini boom, and after they released a new firmware the speaker stop (it's still connected, but there is no sound) if you stop/pause the music or video, so you have to turn off and turn on again to work. It's a pain in the ass. They know that they screwed up but they don't care. There's plenty of messages relating the same problem on Logitech forum and no solution.

Be aware: Just do firmware upgrade on Ue speakers after searching a lot about it online.

  • I got the megaboom when it first came out for $200. They're asking $295 now.
I want either a boom 2 or a megaboom, but I need a better deal than this.

I think they realise how good they are and don't need to discount much. Even the original boom isn't discounted much.

  • I'm loving Bing Lee right now :D
Went instore to C&C and the guy only had a single Boom 2 on the system even tho qty was 2 so they fixed it up with 2 but didnt fix the actual costing of each item being $199
No idea how they got those numbers

    Qty 2 Unit $358.00+ Total $716.00+
Qty 1 Unit $71.60+ Total $71.60- Ebay Sale Promo
Qty 1 Unit $71.60+ Total $71.60- Ebay Sale Promo
    Invoice total: $572.80 $52.08 GST

    Tender:
    Docket total: $572.80

Seems that the GST i'll be getting back will be $52.08 instead of $39.80
Thats $12.28 extra from their stuff up

    Effectively paying $318.40 - $52.08 - $5.96 = $260.36 ($130.18 each)

    lol

  • On eBay some of them are $179 like in store, so around $143 with the 20% off, damn!
