From what I've been reading online, glass is far superior to canvas, with more vivid colours, and the colours last longer (less prone to fading from UV).

40x50cm (16"x20") - $62 Save $62
50x75cm (20"x30") - $94 Save $94

For comparison, the 20"x30" is $199 @ HN

Good prices. I wouldn't say glass is "superior" however, more like different. Some things to be aware of:

    1) You need a higher resolution photo; glass is less forgiving.
    2) Glass photos can appear a bit more saturated than canvas, you may want to tone it down a shade.
    3) Glass is, needless to say, much much heavier than canvas, so think about how and where you're gonna hang it.
    4) Be careful not to over sharpen images for glass - you'll really see it on the print, whereas canvas is a bit more forgiving with less than perfect photos, in my experience.

Having experimented lots, canvas is still my favourite for large and/or everyday prints; metal remains my favourite for high resolution or smaller images that I want a real pop to. It retains the lightness of canvas with the aesthetic qualities of glass.

That said, absolutely nothing wrong with a glass print.

    • How do they go with b&w ? I have a b&w shot of my gf after she came home from fighting a bushfire (volunteer in the RFS), covered in grime and looking tired that I was thinking of doing on glass. Thoughts ?

  • Can Glass prints be illuminated from the rear? Would be interesting to experiment with a light box type frame.

    • They're opaque.

(Haven't actually seen the BigW ones, but likely the same)

  • will these be able to stand on its own on a shelf?

  • I bought the largest size last time @BigW - quality was fantastic. Only catch is that we haven't had a chance to hang it up yet as we have a brick wall and need to drill into it with wall plugs. Hanging instructions are included but also here: http://www.bigwphotos.com.au/glass-prints/

The item itself is thin - so I don't see why it can't freestand if you make your own stand for it (keeping in mind the weight which you can see in above link).

Ditto…I bought the large one last time they were on sale. The quality is superb. I would even go as far as saying that I probably won't ever order a canvas again because the glass looks soooo much better. Depends on the lighting in your house though. I have been waiting for them to go on sale again. Thanks OP!!
