I would've gone for "fire sale" given it is from Masters.

  • Got link to product ?

  • Change your clock - Change your smoke detector batteries.

    Just a reminder.

So those of us in WA never need to change our batteries?

      • Only if you have trouble remembering to change them; same reason you don't have DLS :)

"Ionisation smoke sensing technology" is useless.
    Get the photoelectric type.

Fire Commissioner wants most common smoke alarm banned

Under parliamentary privilege, the Fire Commissioner went further, telling an inquiry: “My personal view is ionisation alarms should be banned."

      Fire & Rescue NSW

FRNSW and the NSW RFS recommend householders install photoelectric, interconnected and hard-wired smoke alarms. If your smoke alarm has a small yellow and black radiation symbol on the back, it is an older, less effective ionisation alarm.

      Choice: Smoke alarm buying guide

Photoelectric smoke alarms are much faster at detecting smoke than ionisation alarms. Studies have shown that photoelectric alarms typically respond to smoky fires within about three to five minutes. Most ionisation alarms take much longer – up to 20 minutes or more – by which time escape can be much more difficult.

"Ionisation smoke sensing technology" is useless.

They're not useless and any smoke detector is better then none. I use three different types of smoke detectors in my house with photoelectric in bedrooms, kitchen and some common areas, ionisation in other common areas and heat in the garage and computer room. All compliment each other with the best type for each location and all 14 or 15 interconnected.

Ionisation detectors perform better then photoelectric with certain fire types and its remarkable how all of a sudden the fire brigades are saying they are rubbish when they promoted them for so long and nothing had changed in how fires work and detectors detect.

Make an informed decision on products that affect your safety, don't listen to bullshit that ionisation detectors are useless and protect your family with the correct mix of detectors.

      • OK, your right, "useless" was the wrong word.
But a lot of people just get one type of alarm,
in which case photoelectric would be the better choice IMO.
        For the reasons Thift outlined.

  • under maintenance

  • Anyone know if it's inshore or online only?

    • Offshore only, next to the detention centre at Naru.

    • its both

I had an idea for a fire alarm once.
Same as a regular one in every way, except that when it detected smoke, instead of beeping annoyingly it would play Billy Joel's we didn't start the fire
    Strangely, manufacturer's weren't interested

    Thanks for the heads up.
Been saying that I should upgrade ours, but never do.
Just got 2 for one on the Photoelectic one with light.

  • Hmmm, they seem to have removed visibility of the pure photoelectric ones from the category and search pages?

Here is the one I bought @ $13.25 ea for a pair, they are good value.

  • Expect lots of things to go very cheaply at Masters soon…

  • Is this the start of the great Masters fire sale?
