          That's great price for ~$600!!!

          Now I'm really tempted…

        • Yep, still waiting for my CashRewards email

      • Which cash back did you use? Pricepal?

    • How does student discount work?…I have a son who just started year 7. I see on the page a box to be ticked that I'm a parent etc.
Do they just take your word for it or do you need to provide proof.
      Thanks.

      • I don't remember exactly…I went through the process last time (selecting school/uni) and this time it didn't ask me, showed student prices automatically on all the eligible products…

  • -1

Any way to pretend to be student when we are not? lol

    • Sign up to the free UTAS course

      Ask Mrs Jeep

      • Thanks, bought one for my nephew :P

    • Didn't you have a student email account for life? I got one from my uni.

  • +1

The price listed by Harvey Norman is $977…I doubt they'd go below $900 even on the hardest haggle.

  • Any good deals on the pen for this tablet going on?

    • +1

There's an Ebay guy selling them for $40 plus $4 postage…

Cheapest you can get from MS Store is $54 for the Surface 3/Surface Pro 3 Pen, and $90ish for the Surface Pro 4 pen…

    • Yeah, about $35-40 is about the best you will do until someone comes up with an aftermarket one

  • Just waiting for type cover deal

  • Couldn't resist it at the student price with cash rewards.. Now do I on-sell it, or replace my wife's Surface3 64 GB with this one…

    • Keep this one and sell the Surface 3. The additional RAM in the 128GB model makes a difference.

  • Expired.

can anyone provide a copy of receipt from Microsoft? They might pricematch through sales chat I think

  • it was in my cart and I was just about to press buy when the price changed in front of me. Chatted with guy on screen and he denied it happened. Said they were nine hundred and whatever all day. I sent him the OB page and he still denied it. Said it wasnt their site. Way to go MS

    • Yeah I was at checkout when price automatically changed. Good deal for those lucky enough to get the price.

      • same here, but if someone puts a copy of proof of purchase from microsoft, we can probably score the same price today.

    • +3

Said it wasnt their site. Way to go MS

It was Phreakuency who reported this to Microsoft out of spite.

        But why?

        • +1

…because you're all "little pricks" (his words)

        • But why?

Spiteful… some people like hurting others.

His response to me was removed as a personal attack but he did call everyone little pricks amongst other things as HN Professional pointed out. His first comments are on page 1.

        • +1

          @HN Professional: or her
          he/she should be banned

  • Did anyone got a screen shot of it? Will buy at full price and claim price protection with CC.

    • +1

Price protection is if the price increases after you've paid for it

      • Same day tho

        • How likely are they to honour that? A bit of a risk methinks…

I could be wrong though, haven't used price protection before…

    • Sounds risky, aldo

      • I have two years any way, price will come down

        • Most ccs have 21 days to claim price protection… Which one gives you 2 years?

        • +1

@twister292: Coles? 28 Degrees gives you 6 months.

        • +1

          @sween64:

          Yep, coles is 2 years

        • What pertage do you pay the full balance to get the price protection for 2 years? Thanks.

        • @tlam: For the 28 Deg you can avoid the price protection fee by paying it off before the statement is generated.

        • +1

          @sween64:

Same for coles, never pay anything extra. Both are ge money cards

        • @sween64:

I don't understand. For example, my balance is $2000 this month and the statement will be generated on 01/02. If I pay off my balance today and the statement balance will be $0, I don't have to pay anything extra and still qualify for the price protection? Thanks.

        • @tlam: Yep!

        • @sween64:

Ok thank, but in this case I can only get free interest for 30 days instead of 55 days.

        • @tlam: True.

  • probably need a receipt for pricematching

    • don't have one with order number?I know they will come back and say this is not genuine microsoft receipt, but thanks anyway for proviving

      • As in my order number? :p
        http://oi66.tinypic.com/25i0v2t.jpg

        • -2

G'day Aldo — order number not there so unfortunately can't be used for a price match. Do you have a screen shot of the email / receipt with the order number clearly shown?

        • @dankenny: G'day mate, I can't provide my order number due to security reason ~ Amazon. However I can give the first two digits http://postimg.org/image/aqh6klnbh/

        • -3

@aldoboy: Thanks, but won't be enough to get the price match unfortunately. Would need full order number (in my experience, this hasn't incurred any risk — but I fully understand if you're reticent to post it online). Thanks anyway.

        • @aldoboy:

Theres something fishy about that story. Why would the victim enter a fake address into a shop he is buying physical goods from?

It's impossible to get on amazon chat without signing in. So if the perpetrator could sign into the victims account to chat, why didn't he just look at the victim's order history and get the details himself?

Something doesn't sound right with the story and I think if there was any truth to it the story would be being reported all over the place.

        • @Lenneth:

Nah, the story is real, the victim shows the chat between amazon rep and attacker (masquerade as user)
the attacker used the fake address with same zip code and amazon rep gave real address
I just tried 5 mins ago, you can actually chat without login by clicking "skip sign in"
someone also tried the method and it worked: http://imgur.com/5JB08eH

Here's the full story : Full, Source

So better be careful mate, at least until you receive the item

I used to work as security analyst and forensic, there were so many orders being routed to shipping sites such as commgateway etc, which later shipped out overseas to attacker's local postal address

        • @aldoboy:

:O you're right about skipping the sign in. That's pretty scary that they don't ask for better confirmation inside the chat.

We have a special email address that me and my SO share just for purchases and billing stuff, that we don't give it out. I think one of the weaknesses the victim did was use his email with his real name for his amazon account. But even then, Amazon should be asking for more proof of id than stuff that is publicly available.

        • @Lenneth: Yes indeed mate

  • Is there anyone with a receipt that shows an order number? It'd be awesome if so :).

    • As it was a 'pricing error' I'm pretty sure no one would price match it, even with an order number.

      • Microsoft would I think

        • +2

Why would Microsoft match their own pricing error, that they fixed? I doubt it.

  • Receipt would not necessarily say it is "pricing error" . I have had a chat with sales rep, they asked for a copy of evidence that it was that price.

    • I had a chat as well, but they claimed no record selling at that price……

Despite the negative comments, it's still a bargain for those who got the deal at 699.

    • +1

Very jealous of those people who scored a bargain. My gf need a laptop that is light and portable and her Surface Pro 1 don't do well in that regards.

  • I had the page still open on my laptop - so I just made a PDF of the full page (11 pages) of the AU website with the price at $699.

Any use to those trying to price match ? Not sure how to post it / make it available. But I'll take ( kind) advice on using tiny pic or whatever .. file is 2.08mb

    let me know…
    G

    • HI Gary, would love to see the PDF….cant post in comments, but you can provide a link to it's location on a cloud drive or similar…

      • I'm on the road now. I'll post it somehow tonight. Or send me a pm and I'll email to you. Request: please come back here and tell us if you had success…

  • Anyone want one? I got one for $699, not really keen on it anymore, will return otherwise.
    Located in Melbourne

    • can't message you, is your PM enabled?

      • oops, it's on now!

  • For those of you lucky enough to get in before the price error was fixed, I got a shipping notification this afternoon. I was only charged the student price of $629.

  • Me too and will let it go at cost for anyone that is interested

  • Why u guys dont want it?

    • Impulse buy.. Not really needed.

  • As they say when these deals come up. Not much time to think…

Click buy and ask questions later lol

  • Received shipment confirmation last night!

  • +1

Anyone that got it for 629 who does not want it? I am interested and will travel overseas to collect GST in 2 weeks.

    • GST can only be claimed by the person to whom the invoice is issued…

  • Attempted delivery today but missed it.

I will have mine tomorrow but will most likely return as managed to get a Surface Pro 3 128GB at a good price instead.

  • I've got one as well if anybody wants it, I'm located in Sydney

  • I'm also interested in taking one of these from anyone willing to sell. Please msg me if interested :)

  • oooh I'll take one at $629 + your cost to ship to BNE…
    cheers
    Gary
